Don’t like the Ertz signing. Would rather go all in with a rookie TE.

A 34 year old on a 1 year contract isn’t going to stop them from drafting that guy if he exists and is on the board for them. I wouldn’t worry about it.

The Houston Texans are keeping their kicker around for a while longer. According to multiple reports, the Texans are signing Ka'imi Fairbairn to a three-year, $15.9 million contract extension.

The deal makes Fairbairn the third-highest paid kicker in the league in terms of average annual value. His $5.3 million average checks in behind only the Ravens' Justin Tucker ($6 million) and the Rams' Matt Gay ($5.62 million). Fairbairn's previous contract held an average annual value of $4.41 million, which ranked ninth in the NFL, according KPRC 2 in Houston.

I think it's the Chargers who have a PK that might be work kicking the tires on.

I don't think signing these cut players hurts our compensatory picks but I could be wrong.  Not 100% sure.

It’s a low cost one year deal. The headline number of 5m more than likely misleading.

Not sure we need too many of these type deals though.

These deals are great while you build the youth on the roster through the draft. You spend cap space that you must, but it washes clear again in a year. You get in known quantity vets who can help change the culture, but you don’t waste future cap. I would expect a bunch of these sort of signings, personally. This roster is BAD, even with a few guys like this we’re still gonna stock up on rookie draft picks, UDFA rookies, and more expensive younger FA’s to come. They want to be competitive but keep a healthy cap future—this is a good way to do that.

I’d like to bring in Clowney on a 1 year deal, kind of like this one

Can Morse sign before FA period officially starts?

Yep.  He's been released.  All released players are eligible to sign w/any team.

Not sure where we ultimately decide to "go cheap vet" v. "long term solutin" in FA ... but this guy would be another "Ertz" type option. 2 year, $10m type deal to stopgap at OC until Stromberg/draft pick (likely future pick) takes over.

Moorse can play. I still like Biadasz more. But this is a solid Center FA this year. Just what we need.

Don't think it counts against the Comp picks too.  Do you know, clskinsfan?

I keep forgetting Slye is a FA. Not really a good group of guys out there either.

On one FA web site I saw like 6 Fa kickers that they had ranked higher than Slye.

Bring in like 5 UDFA's and let them battle it out. :)

Kickers arent football players anyways.

I am ok with Ertz but had hoped for someone better rated but he does have the KK connection so.... so its probably time we write off the rest of our failed QBs TEs and just re-invent the entire TE wheel.

Can I please make the argument now that just because you did something doesn't qualify you as an expert and people should pay attention to you?

Please? Please? Please?

You have a short memory.  Rivera has said multiple times he watches the tape on the QBs himself.  And goes through all the anayltics.

I hope you’re saving up to send him his ring.

Hopefully Bobby Johnson is able to persuade Morse to come here on a reasonable contract.  I might feel better about the hire if so.  If he can convince white and poyer to do the same I say we give him an assistant head coach title.
