In an environment where the anti-Trump is at a fever pitch on the left and people are eagerly waiting for 2020 to come around, getting out there early and being the center of attention may be a really good strategy.  Bet lot of dem circle discussion for the next few days or more will center on Harris and in mostly a positive way.

We'd be saying the opposite if she was screwing this up, but she's not.  She's trying to establish herself as the front-runner.  She didn't give a plan on immigration, just what she wouldn't do.  I'm glad she's for Medicare For All, she get it if she's elected.

I do think it shows a lot of savvy to plan a setting where she's talking alone to the crowd rather than among competitors.  But yeah, she seems to be doing pretty well so far.

I don't like her feelings on education, debt free shouldn't be the goal, affordable quality education is what we need.  Unless she commits to Department of Education paying for everything, but it will be like Health Care in that Medicare for All will be expensive AF unless drug prices come down.

Depends on what she's trying to accomplish.  So far there hasn't been on overly political question or response that would come from people trying rip each other apart while still forcing her to show she has an answer on what to expect people to ask her.  I actually hate the debates and hope they limit them, the last thing we need is a bunch of them going after each other with stuff Trump will use then having to defend the candidate from it in November.

I'm intrigued by her mention of Pell Grant reform, but yeah that's a huge cost.  I think a reasonable proposal would be tying student loan payments to income (with frozen interest as necessary).

Whoever is the democratic nominee is going to be to the left.  How far to the left remains to be seen and whether or not that will be able to beat Trump in the 2020 election.

AS far as it being to early, as mentioned earlier in today; not really.

The 4 first primaries/caucuses are currently scheduled for Feb. 2020.  March 3.2020 is the first Super Tuesday that includes the 2 biggest states: CA & TX.   IF you want be to in the race then and compete; you need to raise alot of money and get yourself known among voters.   Any serious candidate that has a shot; should be getting into the race now.  I don't think anyone can really wait because of the large field.    Yes, there will initially be 20-30 candidates but by the time we get voting next February; that weil be cut in half. By the time we get to Super Tuesday- March 3 probably only a handful of candidates.   The legit contenders will rise to the top. The others are just running for future jobs in a Democratic administration or get their name out there, for a future presidential run.

Elizabeth and Kamala were smart to get in now.  Kamala is doing a good job tonight.

Will the Democratic positions get them elected in Nov. 2020; that remains to be seen.

Assault weapons ban?  Expect that to be on TV tomorrow

Need details on her plan.  Will it just be another scary looking gun ban?

I like that she said congress needed to see the dead kids at Newtown, Obama went up there.

I believe she said they need to see the dead babies.  Expect that same line to be used by the anti abortion crowd.

God, I hope not.  We've talked about this before, focus on what we all are at least the same planetary orbit on, jumping galaxies will get Dems burned.

I'm behind because I paused it for a phone call came back to mentioning people talking about how much they care about kids then picking which ones.  She does seem like she can punch you in the jaw, the world we are about to walk into with next president we need someone like that.

I didn't expect much detail tonight nor do I really expect much in the way of detailed plans for a while from any candidate. I thought she was really strong on the immigration/wall debate and on questions related to bigotry.

She needs some work on fair/free trade answers.

The assault gun ban will just be the reason some that weren't going to vote for her anyway use as justification. I thought her overall answer on nothing being done about guns and calling out Congress was incredibly powerful. Those chicken****s need to look at the pictures.

I'm excited about her campaign so far. I initially wanted a Harris/Brown ticket, but now I think Harris/Mitch Landrieu ticket would be better or a Harris/Stabenow or Baldwin all female ticket.

This is actually kind of great. My sense of duty as a patriotic Ameican and my overwhelming urge to dunk on assholes have coverged. My mission, should I choose to accept it (and I do) is to support and participate in, as much as possible, the public shaming and furious discouragement of Howard Schultz’ egomaniacal Presidential ambitions.

Let it be shouted from sea to shining sea that everywhere he goes, he shall be heckled by my brothers and sisters.

Every venue in which he appears to talk to the people he will be met with invective and mockery.

Every spoken word shall be rejoined by shouts of “asshole!” and “****sucker!”

Every smug, entitled utterance on Twitter that he knows better than anyone else shall be ratioed to holy hell.

Each and every smarmy, anguished announcement that HE represents some fictional silent majority shall be countered with righteous fury and jokes about making me coffee, ****.

AND YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME IS THE LORD WHEN I LAY MY VENGEANCE UPON THEE.

Howard Shultz...Venti asshole.

I didn't like her agriculture answer, you're in Iowa, any specific policy plan would've been better then trying to be "fair" again, whatever the **** that means.

I just think it's too early for those specifics. I mean, it's insanely early in the process which drives me crazy that I'm already paying attention. Hopefully she has some good round table discussions there. If she wins Iowa, it would be over almost immediately.

How dumb did he look explaining being an independent? Could he have less charisma?

Why I was surprised she introduced her Lift act like that...then not make sure it tied to people in Iowa.  It seriously sounds like a basic income, that requires a price tag before gets the S tag.

That's a good point. Hopefully she learns how to tie those policy initiatives directly to people. I don't know if she has one yet, but she needs to come out strong in her proposals to tax the uber wealthy sooner than later.

It will be interesting to see her growth as a candidate over the next few months. I think she does a great job with the emotions of different questions and she has joy out there which is good to see.

it’s like comma with a la at the end of it...  I don’t think you can ever give people “enough” free money...

Isnt she the the one that wants to tax rich people’s wealth?

If you want to tax the rich and spend that on research or infrastructure or something like that sign me up... but giving it to people who are poor and have no ability to use what money they do have wisely.... no thanks.   Most everything else she said is OK with me.

Our government is very good at throwing money away, lets not get it twisted.  I want to see it more efficient because real talk our economy is so large that increasing taxes and cutting spending could allow for programs others countries might not be able to.

The thing that democracy and capitalism are going to have to show is that they can provide the same results that authoritarianism and socialism claim they can.  They have to do this without sounding so much like them that you can't tell the difference.
