Hot under the collar? Police say man used flamethrower to settle parking dispute

A Gainesville man angry over his neighbors’ parking habits sprayed fire from a commercial flamethrower toward a car with three teenagers inside, police said. No one was hurt.

Andre Abrams, 57, of Gainesville, is facing three counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intending to kill, according to court records. He posted a $15,000 bond last week and is awaiting a decision whether prosecutors will formally file criminal charges.

The mother of one of the teens, Ashley Gainey, said Abrams frequently sprayed the flamethrower to scare off guests at her home, 1006 NE 25th Terrace. Gainey’s daughter, Nate’talya Baker, 16, fled the car with her friends as Abrams continued to spray flames toward them, police said.

“When he shoots it, it lights the whole road up,” Gainey said. “It’s like it’s daylight outside. He’ll do it in the middle of the night.”

In his arrest report, police identified the weapon in the Nov. 30 incident as an XM42 Lite Flamethrower, which shoots flames up to 20 feet and is manufactured by X Products LLC of Vancouver, Washington. It sells for about $900 online.

“You’ve probably wondered if you can own a flamethrower, and guess what? You can!” the company said in a promotional video last year. “No permits or licenses needed.” It said the devices are legal to buy and own in every state except Maryland or California.

While “being intimate” with a friend inside a restaurant bathroom, a Florida Woman broke a sink off the wall, leading to her arrest for criminal mischief, according to police.

Investigators say that Kathryn Trammel, 37, caused $500 in damages Tuesday during an afternoon encounter inside a bathroom at Irish 31, an eatery in Seminole.

According to an arrest affidavit, Trammel and a friend were asked to leave the restaurant after staff discovered them in the bathroom. “The defendant and her friend then left the bathroom and sat at the bar,” a sheriff’s deputy noted.

Trammel, cops allege, subsequently returned to the bathroom. It was during this second trip that the sink was damaged. After being read her rights, Trammel reportedly said that, “her friend and herself were being intimate in the bathroom and as a result, caused the sink to break.”

I love how they're talking about this basically being a regular occurrence. "Oh ****, Andre has his flamethrower out again. Just ignore him, kids."

Florida HOA in hot water after drugged geese drown

Ten geese drowned in a South Florida lake after a homeowners association’s attempt to trap, sedate and euthanize them went horribly awry, resulting in it facing a likely fine.

The SilverLakes homeowners association in Miramar hired a company, Pest Wildlife Pro, to remove 25 geese because some residents in the suburban Fort Lauderdale neighborhood found them to be loud pooping machines, although others saw them as majestic, the South Florida SunSentinel reports.

Rolando Calzadilla, the company’s owner, said he fed the geese bread laced with sedatives Tuesday, but a loud car spooked the drugged birds and they flew off. Ten fell into the lake and drowned, while he found the other 15 and euthanized them offsite.

Calzadilla said residents who saw what was happening charged at him and were yelling and screaming. He said he had to call police for help, saying “the situation was out of control.”

Florida man found guilty of kidnapping, torturing plastic surgeon

A federal jury in Miami convicted a man of kidnapping the plastic surgeon who had treated his wife and torturing him with a blow torch to get money from him.

Federal prosecutors had brought the case against 56-year-old Serge Nkorina, who was found guilty of conspiring to commit kidnapping and kidnapping earlier this week. Nkorina could face up to life in prison at his sentencing hearing in February.

Nkorina's attorney, Omar F. Guerra Johansson, said the defendant intends to appeal the verdict.

“This case was a hard fought trial, and the jury deliberated for four hours,” he said in a statement.

Assistant U.S. attorneys Robert F. Moore and Marc Chattah said Nkorina and another man, who already pleaded guilty, plotted to kidnap the plastic surgeon. Prosecutors said they placed a GPS tracker on the bottom of his car, bought devices from hardware and medical supply stores and rented a storage container in Margate, Florida.

Nkorina and the other man kidnapped the man on Jan. 14, 2019 as he was leaving a supermarket with groceries by using a stun gun on his neck and throwing him into a van, prosecutors said.

At the storage container they tortured him for hours and burned the victim’s hands with a blow torch to force him to reveal the security gate and door codes to his home, prosecutors said. But as they were trying to rob his home, they were scared away by the doorbell camera and abandoned the plan and left the victim at a strip club parking lot, the U.S. attorneys said.

Florida man challenges mask policy on flight by wearing women's underwear on his face

A Cape Coral man tells us he was kicked off United Airlines flight Wednesday morning because he was wearing women's underwear as a face mask.

He argues it covered his nose and mouth and complied with TSA guidelines.

Adam Jenne tells us he thinks the rule requiring people to wear masks on a plane is silly, but it’s Federal law at least until May, so he decided to follow the rule in a silly way.

Unfortunately for him, staff on United Airlines flight 1750 from Ft. Lauderale to Washington, D.C. didn’t find it very funny.

"You’re going to have to come off the airplane. We’re not going to let you travel," said a flight attendant in a cell phone video recorded by a passenger.

"Why?" responded Jenne in the video.

"You’re not in mask compliance," said the attendant in the video.

In the video, you can see Jenne’s bright red underwear hanging on his face as he gets walked off the plane. He said he was trying to show why the rule doesn’t make sense to him.

"There’s nothing more absurd than having to wear a mask until I get to cruising altitude so that I can order Tito’s by the double and snack on pretzels, and illustrating that absurdity by wearing women’s underwear on my face sounds perfect," said Jenne.

Shortly after Jenne left, other passengers started to speak up.

“Did he just get kicked off for wearing a mask?” said one man in the video.

That man then chose to leave the flight as well.

“I’m out of here, forget it. I’m out of here," said the man.

Jenne said several passengers ended up getting off the plane to support him.

Wild Florida: Two gators found in an SUV that rolled over on a Florida roadway

Florida Fish and Wildlife officers were called to the scene of a rollover accident involving two alligators earlier this month.

When officers arrived to the scene in Hardee County on Dec. 9th, they found the more than six-foot and eight-foot-long gators hanging out of the rear window of a white, late model Ford Explorer, resting on its side.

According to officials, the suspects found on the scene, Carlos Peralta and Devan Medrano, admitted to killing the gators while fishing. They said they loaded them into the SUV to transport them.

Both alligators did expire. The suspects are facing charges.

Man's stupidity results in the death of a tiger.  They should've shot the man instead:

Tiger fatally shot at Florida zoo after attacking man who stuck arm through enclosure, authorities say

A Malayan tiger named Eko was shot and killed at the Naples Zoo in Florida on Wednesday after attacking a man who attempted to feed and pet him after hours, authorities said.

According to Collier County Sheriff's Office, a man in his 20s who was a member of a third-party cleaning service at the zoo entered an unauthorized area near the tiger that was inside its enclosure.

Preliminary information indicates that the man was either petting or feeding the animal, sticking his hand through fencing when the tiger grabbed his arm and pulled it into the enclosure, the sheriff's office said.

According to the sheriff's Facebook post, the cleaning company is responsible for cleaning restrooms and the gift shop, but not animal enclosures.

Deputies arrived at the zoo around 6:30 p.m. A deputy tried to get the tiger to release the man’s arm by kicking the enclosure. When that didn't work, the deputy shot the tiger.

After being shot, the 4-year-old tiger retreated to the back of the enclosure. Deputies flew a drone into the enclosure, where he was unresponsive.

A veterinarian sedated the animal and examined it "when it [was] safe to do so," the sheriff's office said. The tiger later died, according to a zoo spokesperson, ABC reported.

How to win friends and influence people...

Clearwater council candidate caused bar altercations, reports say

Twice over the last two years, law enforcement officers have been called to local bars to quell altercations involving Aaron Smith-Levin, now a candidate for Clearwater City Council.

Smith-Levin, 41, was accused of behaving belligerently and provoking both incidents with vulgar insults, but neither resulted in charges, according to law enforcement records.

Asked to comment on the incidents, Smith-Levin issued a statement blaming the “hell” and “unbelievable stress” of leaving the Church of Scientology, where he spent his early life as a staffer before defecting about seven years ago. He is basing his council campaign on a pledge to stand up against the church’s dominating presence in downtown and challenge its tax-exempt status.

On Sept. 17, the second day that potential candidates for City Council could begin collecting the 250 signatures needed to get on the ballot, Smith-Levin said he went to Fusion Cigar Lounge on Clearwater Beach to talk to voters.

At 11 p.m., he called 911 to report that he had been assaulted.

While talking to responding Clearwater police officers outside Fusion, he said that a man had punched him in the head after overhearing Smith-Levin call his girlfriend “crazy,” according to body camera footage of the discussion.

However, police told Smith-Levin that two witnesses said he called the woman a “c--t” five times before the altercation. Smith-Levin denied to the officers that he used the word before he was hit but admitted saying it after the boyfriend punched him.

Responding Friday morning to a domestic disturbance call at a Fort Pierce residence, sheriff’s deputies spoke to a woman who said she was struck with noodles thrown by Brandon Smith, 21, following a dispute over allowing Smith’s dog onto a bed.

After Smith hit her with the noodles, the woman alleged, he struck her “on the back with the hot pot,” according to an arrest affidavit.

When questioned by cops, Smith said that he woke up and “began making a pot of ramen noodles.” The victim, he claimed, was chasing the dog around when she fell atop the ramen noodles on the stove.

Florida tiger attack victim smelled of alcohol, refused to speak to deputies: FWC

A nurse at Lee Memorial Hospital who treated the Florida man who stuck his arm into a tiger enclosure at Naples Zoo, smelled alcohol on him when he was treated for a gruesome arm injury.

According to documents, 26-year-old River Rosenquist refused to speak to deputies following the attack that nearly caused his arm to be amputated.

Rosenquist was part of the crew of cleaners contracted to clean the administrative areas of the zoo.

Documents say Rosenquist was outside the scope of his duties and that he was not authorized to breach the posted structural safety barrier that held Eko the tiger.

Eko was ultimately killed after being shot by a Collier County deputy in order to rescue Rosenquist.

Car left on train tracks struck, flies into home

According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old Bradford Weitzel left a Martin County bar early Saturday morning to find that his car was missing.

Weitzel told investigators that he stole another vehicle in an attempt to find his own, and that it suddenly stopped dead while on train tracks along Indian River Drive.

Detectives say Weitzel bailed from the car and ran as an oncoming train struck the vehicle and sent it flying into a nearby home.

The homeowners were asleep inside, but thankfully no one was hurt during the incident.

Deputies say Weitzel continued to flee to a nearby fruit stand, where he vandalized the stand and attempted to steal a forklift.

Eventually, Weitzel flagged down the responding deputies to ask for help finding his missing car. Deputies arrested him after he explained the events of the evening.

A Palm Bay woman was arrested Sunday, accused of stabbing two people and pushing an elderly woman in a feud over leaf blowing, police said.

Kyong Moulton, 66, is accused of stabbing two people who live across the street from her.

According to the arrest affidavit, Moulton told Palm Bay police she came home Sunday afternoon and found leaves on her front lawn. Assuming they had been placed there by the people across the street, she pulled out her leaf blower and blew them back onto their lawn, police said.

One of the victims told police he saw Moulton with the leaf blower and he and his mother went out to confront her, records show.
