I mean. It doesn’t matter.

it’s like we’re looking at the Commanders and arguing over whether they should have more porta-johns in fewer locations or fewer ports-johns in more locations in the stadium parking lot

theres just so many other things…

An AR-15 designed for children shocks even the most jaded gun-control advocates

Four years ago this week, in one of the deadliest mass shootings in memory, 17 people were shot and killed by a 19-year-old gunman at a high school in Parkland, Florida. The tragedy spurred a revitalized gun reform movement led by a new generation, with youth coalitions like March For Our Lives calling for common-sense gun legislation. Still, school shootings continue to rise: Between August and December 2021, there were 136 instances of gunfire on school grounds, the highest rate in a 5-month period since the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety began tracking it in 2013. And 70% of school shooters, many of whom have easy home access to weapons, are under the age of 18.

Given this backdrop of ever-increasing gun violence, and especially by young perpetrators, the release of a new rifle directly marketed to kids has astonished even gun-reform experts who have followed the industry’s aggressive targeting of children for years. They say this new firearm, overtly advertised as a kids’ version of the AR-15—the style of rifle used in 11 of the 12 most high-profile mass shootings, including Sandy Hook and Las Vegas—is the most brazen example of such targeted firearms marketing they’ve ever seen. The move is part of a trend by an unstable gun industry in a volatile market to target new potential consumers, but it’s also motivated by a rise of political extremism.

Last month, the JR-15, or Junior 15, debuted at the SHOT Show, billed as the nation’s largest annual trade show for the sport shooting, hunting, and outdoor industry. The event is organized by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), a firearms industry trade association. The rifle is manufactured by WEE1 Tactical, an offshoot of Schmid Tool and Engineering, which has sold AR-15 components for 30 years. A November press release from WEE1 specifically notes the JR-15’s appeal to children: “Our vision is to develop a line of shooting platforms that will safely help adults introduce children to the shooting sports,” it reads. To do that, it’s built a gun whose “ergonomics are geared towards children”: it’s lighter than an adult version, at 2.2 pounds, 20% smaller, and with a patented safety mechanism, not standard on AR-15s, which needs to be pulled out “with some force” and rotated before it can fire. Slight tweaks aside, the company boasts that it “operates just like Mom and Dad’s gun.”

Newsom announces Texas-style bill that would let residents sue gun makers

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is getting the gun control version of Texas’ abortion law that he called for in December.

State Sen. Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) on Friday unveiled new legislation that would allow Californians to sue makers and sellers of assault weapons, .50 BMG rifles, ghost guns or ghost gun kits. Officials didn’t go into the details of the bill, but made it clear that it’s based on a Texas law allowing people to sue abortion providers.

“If Texas can use a law to ban a woman’s right to choose and put her health at risk, we will use that same law to save lives and improve the health and safety of the people in the state of California,” Newsom said at a press conference where he, alongside Attorney General Rob Bonta and lawmakers, rolled out a slate of gun control legislation.

The governor also dared the Supreme Court to strike it down since the justices in December upheld the Texas law.

“There is no principled way the U.S. Supreme Court can’t uphold this law,” Newsom said. “It is quite literally modeled after the law they just upheld in Texas.”

Not sayin I would agree with SCOTUS taking this stance but they could easily claim that the bill of rights specifically mentions guns but not abortions.  Seems like an easy argument to make.

Coming to a neighborhood near you:

3 arrested after 'full-scale ghost gun factory' found inside San Jose home

In the South Bay, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office said, "assault weapons, machine guns, and ghost guns" (all illegal weapons), were seized from what they're calling a "sophisticated ghost gun factory."

Three people are now in custody, accused of running the operation out of a home in San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood.

Ask residents in the neighborhood, and many feel there's an undeniable sense of safety across this small pocket of San Jose.

"It's old world charm, parks and kids and lots of restaurants. It's got its own downtown," resident Gary Sassmann told ABC7 News.

However, located a little more than a mile outside of Downtown Willow Glen's core is what authorities are calling a full-scale ghost gun factory.

Along Roy Avenue and inside what's being described as an "unassuming $1.6-million home," a small arsenal was recently uncovered.

Weapons seized included eight assault weapons, like AK and AR-style rifles, as well as two handguns.

Gun Violence Is So Bad at Spring Break Miami Beach Set a Curfew

Police in Miami Beach have confiscated about 100 guns over the last few weeks of spring break, and at least five people were shot over the weekend. The situation has gotten so bad that local officials declared a state of emergency and instituted a midnight curfew.

“Officers are EXHAUSTED,” the Miami Beach Fraternal Order of Police tweeted Sunday, with video of spring breakers swarming officers and cop cars on the town’s popular Ocean Drive strip. “The party needs to end. City officials must take immediate and firm action to ensure the safety of officers and residents.”

At least 371 officers from the Miami Beach Police Department were patrolling the streets over the weekend, according to Mayor Dan Gebler.

The state of emergency followed two shootings in Miami Beach, the first of which left two people with non-life-threatening injuries near Ocean Drive around 12:15 a.m. A third person was later found to have been shot, according to police, but they had already been taken to the hospital.

Almost exactly 24 hours later, police already patrolling Ocean Drive heard gunfire and rushed to the scene, where they found two women shot, also with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Miami Herald. The two victims were rushed to the hospital.

Man at Houston's St. Regis Hotel accidentally shoots himself in testicles

A man at an upscale Galleria-area hotel was hospitalized early Saturday after he accidentally shot himself in the testicles, police said.

Police and paramedics responded to the shooting at the St. Regis Houston hotel around 11:30 p.m. Friday. Police said the man was either unpacking a gun or pulling it from his pants when it went off.

Under a state law passed last year by the Texas Legislature and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, hotels can’t prohibit guests from carrying firearms or storing them in their rooms.

In my day we didn't need guns to celebrate Spring Break.  Not sure why you'd need one at the beach.

Florida officials confiscate 75 guns amid spring break surge: "There are no words that can describe the way they have behaved"

Rowdy spring break crowds from Miami Beach to Florida's Panhandle have forced curfews and led some establishments to close their doors altogether. Multiple shootings have occurred as spring breakers flocked to the state, leading lawmakers to confiscate guns and condemn the crowds' behavior.

"The crowd that has been here this weekend, there are no words that can describe the way they have behaved themselves, conducted themselves and the amount of laws they have broken," Panama City Beach police Chief J.R. Talamantez said Sunday, after a 21-year-old from Alabama was shot in the foot. "We are doing the best to manage this situation."

Police received word that the large crowd was out of control just before the shooting happened on Sunday afternoon. Six people were detained and officials said they could be charged with attempted murder related to that shooting.

Firearms law firm issues warning to gun owners of forced-reset triggers

A law firm that specializes in helping people protect their Second Amendment rights issued a warning to gun owners that could save them from receiving a knock on the door from the federal government.

Kirk Evans, the president of U.S. LawShield, discussed with the Washington Examiner how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said forced-reset triggers could qualify some firearms as machine guns.

Evans suggested that gun owners should get in contact with a lawyer if they think their gun trigger falls under the ATF's definition of a forced-reset trigger.

Evans warned against contacting the ATF because it said in its letter it reviewed "some" forced-reset triggers but did not say which ones, making it hard for gun owners to discern if the triggers in their firearms are forced-reset.

"I would not be doing that, I would not be calling the ATF," Evans said. "And then No. 2, I would certainly avoid publicizing anything that I have. I would probably not be generating social media posts that say, 'Ha ha ha, I got one of these triggers that the ATF doesn't want.'"

Evans said it is possible for gun owners to swap out their forced-reset trigger for a different one, but the ATF would still consider the part as a machine gun since it can be "readily assembled." He clarified he does not agree with this logic, but ditching the forced-reset trigger could work as a means to avoid trouble with the ATF.

In a first, firearms were leading cause of death for U.S. children and teens in 2020

Guns became the leading cause of death among children and teens in 2020, killing more people ages 1 to 19 in the U.S. than vehicle crashes, drugs overdoses or cancer.

More than 4,300 died of firearm-related injuries that year — a 29 percent increase from 2019 — according to a research letter published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine. The letter analyzed decades of mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"In the last 40 years, and almost certainly before that, this is the first time that firearm injuries have surpassed motor vehicle crashes among kids," said a co-author of the letter, Jason Goldstick, a research associate professor at the University of Michigan.

Because you need a gun at Disney...

Guest Arrested with Gun Hanging Around His Neck While Ingesting Bag of Chalky White Substance Outside Magic Kingdom

Outside the Magic Kingdom, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies confronted Quincy Campbell who was caught with a gun hanging around his neck going through security, a report said. He was already in trouble.

That’s when, the report said, Campbell pulled a plastic baggy from his pocket and thrust the contents in his mouth as deputies tried to stop him.

Deputies ordered Campbell to spit it out but Campbell kept chewing. They could see “a chalky white substance” around his mouth, the sheriff’s report said.

“I swallowed a piece of the gum,” Campbell insisted to them.

Deputies didn’t believe him.

Campbell, 33, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, destruction of evidence and possession of cannabis, according to Orange Circuit Court records. The firearm and evidence destruction charges are felonies while the cannabis charge is a misdemeanor.

Campbell had gone through bag check March 19 when Disney Security realized he had a gun in a black bag around his neck. He told deputies he was holding onto the gun for his sister, who has a concealed weapons license. Campbell, an ex-felon, did not have a gun permit himself, he told deputies.
