d0ublestr0ker0ll
Saw the death toll has reached 4,300. That is unbelievably terrible. 1,300 more than 9/11. A number that always boggles my mind is 230,000 losing their lives in the 2004 tsunami. That's around 2 1/2 completely packed Fed Ex fields. I feel for all the families, can't imagine losing a loved one, much less several loved ones.

Sushil Koirala's comment on Tuesday came as rescuers in Nepal were struggling to reach remote communities. With the UN estimating eight million people have been hit by the disaster, Koirala said getting help to some of the worst affected areas was a "major challenge". He said authorities were overwhelmed by appeals for help from remote Himalayan villages left devastated by Saturday's 7.8-magnitude quake. Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, home ministry spokesperson, said on Tuesday the official death toll had risen to 4,310, with a further 7,953 known to have been injured. Mass cremations tool place overnight after the government ordered the continuous burning of the bodies to prevent the spread of diseases. With fears rising of food and water shortages, Nepalis were rushing to stores and petrol stations to stock up on essential supplies in the capital Kathmandu. The size of the Kathmandu airport is a major hurdle to bring in aid, as only planes of a certain size can land on the single runway.

Duckus
I have a friend who has been to Nepal twice in his life. First time the royal family was assassinated in 2001 and the country plunged into chaos. The second time was this earthquake (he is fine). Crazy. The death toll from the April 25 earthquake in the Himalayan nation has reached 7,557, the government said. About 100 bodies were recovered on Saturday and Sunday at Langtang village, 60 km (37 miles) north of Kathmandu, which is on a trekking route popular with Westerners. The entire village, which includes 55 guesthouses for trekkers, was wiped out by the avalanche and rescuers are digging in the snow for signs of about 120 others believed buried. Gautam Rimal, assistant chief district officer in the area where Langtang is located, said authorities had not made contact with Langtang for more 24 hours because of bad weather.
