Sources: Jake Layman Considering NBA Draft

Maryland junior forward Jake Layman is currently in the process of gathering information and weighing his options for the NBA Draft, sources close to the situation told InsideMDSports.com

Per the source, Layman is not leaning in either direction currently and he's still in the process of receiving feedback. A decision isn't expected to be made this week. The deadline for NCAA players to pull their name out of NBA Draft consideration is April 26th this year.

The 6-foot-9, 205 pound Massachusetts native averaged 12.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game for the Terps this past season and was named a third-team all-Big Ten choice by the media. He’s ranked No. 37 overall in DraftExpress’s Top-100 board and No. 50 overall by ESPN’s Chad Ford. Both currently project him to be drafted in the second round.

Maryland football: Caleb Rowe, 4 other expected starters receive medical redshirts

Eight Maryland football players, including quarterback Caleb Rowe, received NCAA medical hardship waivers, Randy Edsall announced Wednesday (per the Post). Quarterback Caleb Rowe, defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, tight end Andrew Isaacs, outside linebacker Cavon Walker, wide receiver Taivon Jacobs, running back Albert Reid, defensive back Alvin Hill and defensive back Daniel Ezeagwu will all receive an extra year of eligibility.

Rowe has played in parts of three seasons while with Maryland, throwing 12 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 13 games while completing 53.7 percent of his passes for 7.7 yards per attempt. He is expected to start at quarterback for the Terrapins this fall, and will now have two years of eligibility remaining.

All of this is good news, but this one's the best for Maryland -- if Rowe graduated after 2015, the quarterback picture in 2016 would have frankly been terrifying. Now with an extra year of Rowe as a cushion, there's less pressure on incoming freshmen (like four-star target Dwayne Haskins) or long-term projects (like Shane ****erille or Gage Shaffer) to put it together immediately.

Diamond Stone is cooking. Running hook, follow dunk and putback in about a two-minute span. Now 7 of 9 for 14 points in the McDonald's game.

There was more Maryland talk during this McDonald's game than in the past 10 years combined. Free branding and Stone played well (14 pts).

I hope Layman returns. Team will be good without him, but would be so incredibly deep and talented with him. I think it makes sense for him to return. He can upgrade his stock big time with a good season. He didn't exactly light it up down the stretch.

Brave, please just assume I like all your posts. Thanks for driving this thread.

Not sure if this was linked somewhere, but has a look at some potential recruits coming down the pike.

On a side note, it appears Bovada doesn't want any of that ladies bball action.

Markelle Fultz is a kid that really stands out.  Late blooming, uber athlete that is still growing and is a certain early 1st rounder if things progress as they should.   Currently off the radar for some teams like Duke and Kentucky, but won't be for long.

McDonald's All-American Game: What We Learned About Stone

If Wednesday night’s McDonald’s All-American game was any indication, everyone in college basketball needs to be aware of Diamond Stone next season, including the officials.

Stone made plays all over the court in the elite high school showcase, scoring 14 points on seven of nine shooting, and also caught one of the referees with an elbow, resulting in a gruesome black eye.

Less than a week after committing to Maryland, Stone’s performance on a national stage had ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Williams gushing about the Terps potential next year. He called the duo of Stone and Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter Jr. “one of the top frontcourts in the country” and pushed the envelope even further knowing point guard Melo Trimble will also be back on board.

Turgeon Plans to Spend "A Lot of Time" With Calipari This Summer

Mark Turgeon wouldn’t mind seeing Wisconsin or Michigan State win the NCAA Tournament this weekend, which would help the Big Ten conference as a whole, especially on the recruiting trail, but he’s pulling for an old friend, John Calipari, to make history and complete the first undefeated season college basketball has seen since 1977.

“I’m a big Cal fan,” Turgeon said earlier this week on ESPN980’s The Man Cave. “I’m rooting hard for him, I hope he can do it. You know what’s crazy, [the last time] they won it, he said, ‘The next goal is 40-0.’ He kind of called it.”

Calipari began his college coaching career as an assistant at Kansas, a year before Turgeon arrived to the university as a player. His respect for him has only grown since being an 18-year old kid, watching him in recent years manage egos of future NBA players and get them to all play together as a team. This year the Wildcats are two wins away from running the table and are doing it with nine McDonald’s All-Americans on their roster.

Now, in anticipation of having a loaded roster himself next year, although not quite on Kentucky’s level, Turgeon plans to pick his former coach’s brain this offseason in order get an idea of how to create similar chemistry with a lineup expected to include Melo Trimble, Robert Carter Jr., Diamond Stone, Jake Layman and possibly another new addition. Calipari and Turgeon have remained in touch over the years, often seeing each other at AAU events in the offseason, and have stayed friends even during some heated recruiting battles (see: Harrison twins).

Aha!, the ladies game is on Bovada, under WNBA of course. Terps getting 21. Let's go! Daddy needs a new pair of UA Mobtown shoes.

hmm... so they're saying there's a chance

Welp, stupid me. Thought they would hang closer with them. I'll be damned if they didn't win by 23. Oddsmakers pretty much nailed that.
