HOMECOMING

Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come, but I ain't the same
Mama, I'm coming home
Times gone by seem to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Mama, I'm coming home

Hi there :) from Sports Authority Field where we're high atop Mile High Stadium. After four & a half years, Coach Mike Shanahan makes his return to Denver to face his former team. And his former back to back Super Bowl winning QB now turned GM, John Elway. The same John Elway that Shanahan's current phenom QB grew up watching. To say that Shanny means a lot to this Denver community is most likely an understatement. During his coaching career, he spent twenty one total years coaching here. Shanny went 146-91 (138 regular season wins) in fourteen years here as Head Coach. He also became one of five head coaches in NFL history to win back to back Super Bowls. Simply put, for Bronco fans, he is their version of Joe Gibbs.

I do kinda expect a shoot out in today's game simply because last week against the Bears, Robert Griffin lll looked very close to being the RG3 of last year. Seems he's finally pushed through the mental issue of trusting the knee and shaking the rust off. When he was at Baylor, coming back from knee surgery, it took him about four games to get his groove back. Here, in the NFL, it took him an extra week. Two, if you count the Bye.

In Peyton Manning, you simply have one of the greatest players ever at the QB position. In Robert Griffin lll, you have a young QB that has the potential to stand on that plateau with him towards the end of his career. With both of these guys being highly competitive, I had to raise an eyebrow at Peyton missing practice on Wednesday with an ankle issue. The way he was throwing ducks last Sunday at his homecoming in Indy, would indicate it's more of a neck/arm issue then ankle. So keep an early eye out on that as well.

And now word is Manning has two sprained ankles & will be on painkillers to play today.

• The Redskins forcing a turnover in their 11th straight regular season game, dating back to last year. The Redskins’ current 10-game streak is their longest under Shanahan. • Griffin III recording his seventh career 300-yard passing game to tie Sammy Baugh and Jay Schroeder for fourth-most in team history.
• Griffin III (five) throwing for 200 yards and rushing for 75 yards to tie Randall Cunningham and Michael Vick (six) for the most games in NFL history with at least 200 passing yards and at least 75 rushing yards.
• Griffin III rushing for 75 yards for a third consecutive game for the first time in his career.
• Cornerback DeAngelo Hall returning a fumble for a touchdown to tie Jessie Tuggle for the second-most in NFL history (five). Hall’s four career fumble return touchdowns are currently tied for third in NFL history with Bill Thompson, Derrick Thomas, Keith Bulluck and Ronde Barber.

• Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson catching a touchdown pass to match his single-season career high from last season (three).

• Running back Alfred Morris posting his ninth career 100-yard game to tie Ladell Betts for ninth-most in team history.
• Wide receiver Santana Moss scoring a touchdown to tie Stephen Davis for 10th-most total touchdowns in team history (48). With two touchdowns, he can tie former teammate Clinton Portis for ninth (49).
• Moss recording four receptions to pass Gary Clark (549) for third in team history for career receptions as a Redskin.
• Moss catching three passes to become the ninth active player to reach 700 career receptions.
• Moss amassing 71 receiving yards to become the seventh active player to reach 10,000 career receiving yards (Tony Gonzalez, Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson, Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin).

This was like the fourth dude to parachute in. First guy lost control on the landing & smacked into wall.

..............

OPENING DRIVE

Skins have won the toss & will receive. Morgan back to receive with Paul. When this place gets loud it rumbles like an earthquake.

Skins at the 20 to start. Skins fake the run, Griffen holds on to long & takes off, slides on his butt. 2nd down. Griff to Reed nearly picked off. 3rd down. Stadium rumbles again. Forces Skins to burn a timeout.3rd & 6. Griffin holds on, scrambles right & stopped by Von Miller. Rocca to punt.

Manning fakes handoff to & then completes a pass for 13 yards to Knowshon. Knowson runs for 8. Manning over the middle to Thomas, stopped by Fletcher. Knowhon runs to the right for 1. Ball runs for 8. 3rd & 2. Manning to Thomas. 1st down & 10 at the 19. Knowshon for a slight gain of 3. Manning complete to Knowshon. Manning putting on a clicnc for his opening drive. Manning to Welker Touchdown.

Thoughts at the Half

First thought is we're really lucky to only be tied at 7 here. The Offense has struggled to get it going. The D surprisingly held Manning off the scoreboard since the opening drive by Denver. Denver kept trying to stuff the run, so Kyle had been calling chunks of yardage downfield to back them off. In a handful of minutes left in the 4th it seems the running game is going for them now. Big question now is, will the 2nd half be the shootout many of us have been expecting.

3rd/4th Quarter

Well looky there. A quick strip fumble recovery & then a quick pick six & the Redskins take the lead 21-7.

Halfway through the 3rd, Denver stop giving us the ball & manages to start rolling again for a seven point score. At which point the blonde chic on the white horse gallops down the center of the field.

The first real drive for the O in the 3rd & they still can't really string much of anything together. Following possession though, Denver is marching.Skins D holds them to a 4th & 1 at the 1 as the 3rd quarter expires. Start of the 4th & Manning makes it look easy as Denver ties it up at 21. Skins go a quick 3 & out, Denver makes it look easy with a 35 yard TD pass to Moreno. 14.19 left in the 4th. Denver up 28-21. Von Miller hits RG3 who fumbles & Denver recovers. Four plays later it's 3rd & goal at the 1 for Denver. Rac saves the TD with a block. 19 yard field goal i good, Denver still up 31-21.

Final Thoughts

You can't put this one on the Defense. You HAVE to put it on the Offense. An Offense that came alive last week, went back into hibernation this week. The O has a serious case of "can't get rights" . They can't catch, they can barely run, & in a game where Griffin couldn't run like last week. He couldn't get any accuracy going on his passes either. Even when you finally see Cousins in, he throws a pick six. Granted, he almost made the score saving tackle, but he couldn't get that right either. It's a damn shame we can't just play the Bears every week.

Thanks TK for the write up!

I am hoping that the players play this one with all their heart for the coach and to get him that homecoming win! It should be a high scoring game as long as our ST decides to show up and doesn't give up points.

Why did this game had to fall on my birthday...lol :P

Anyways, I will still show up in my chat room like every Sunday. See you all at game time!!!

HTTR! :D

Will be hoping that our offense keeps their foot on the gas, they'll need to. Hoping big time that our special teams will solidify this week and that our defense continues to be strong, a great pass rush and a few hits on Peyton and we might be able to throw off his timing.

Wishing for the best, hoping for few injuries and a victory.

We'll put some points on the board, but I still don't like us in a shoot-out. I'd like to see us win the toss, take the ball, establish the run and score a TD with only about five or six minutes left in the first quarter. Force a three and out, take the ball and go to the hurry up, and go into the second quarter, up 14 - 0. Then, run, run, run. Keep it out of Mannings hands.

Imgreat write up TK! Lots if info there.

I am less worried about this game than I was two weeks ago for two reasons. One, Griffin is coming around and looks more and more like the Griffin of last season with each game. Two, Denver lost to Indy last week and almost lost to Jacksonville the week before. I think it's safe to say that Jacksonville is the worst team in the league.

I won't say I expect a win but I think that we can make it very interesting.

Random question: according to this distribution map, the Redskins-Broncos game is being televised on FOX just about everywhere except for the Bay Area, which is showing no game instead, "due to NFL rules".

http://506sports.com/nfl.php?yr=2013&wk=8

Does anyone know why?

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I figured it out. Apparently NFL rule prohibit other games from being shown when a local team is playing a sold out, locally televised game. Stupid Raiders.

To answer your question, it's because the Raiders are at home playing the Steelers during that same time slot. If your local team is playing at home, any game on the opposite network is blacked out locally. The game will join in progress on Fox at 7PM ET, so just change to Fox then, and you should catch most of the 4th Quarter.
