Entourage Season 8

Coming off easily the worst season of the show, and a lackluster first episode to this season. It's not looking too promising for the show. The whole dark Vince thing just isn't entertaining.

Yea. I miss them all living under one roof, smokin up, drinkin and acting a fool. I'll still watch though. I'm a fan.

He's the worst character on the show. And the new episode sucked. Sad for Ari though

Well, it's not really about Vince. It's called "Entourage" for a reason.

I felt bad for Ari. Despite his a-hole tendencies, he's never cheated on his wife. But it brings up a good question in general . . . he ignores her, puts her second to work all the time, etc. So the fact that he's never cheated on her makes up for all the other bad things?

every show has a shelf life and this show, in my mind, was starting to get stale 2 seasons back. Ari was great at first and now he's just entirely predictable with his antics. I do like the cameos here and there and all the places I've been to in L.A. (some good, some over-rated) and it's still worth a tune in now and then but I just don't go out of my way to catch it like I used to.

I thought last season was the most interesting one since the first since it had things like a "plot" and "character development."

Aren't these guys, like, 50 by now?

Well, it's not really about Vince. It's called "Entourage" for a reason.

The main character is not Vince, it's E. E is the fish out of water who has to navigate Hollywood. The problem with E is that he is poorly written and played by a mediocre actor. But the show could rise above that if Vince was this charismatic star who could show up during the episode and make it obvious why E is still doing what he is doing. Adrian Grenier is such a non-entity that I've never understood:

a) why he is a star, and

B) why these guys are all so fiercely loyal to him, particularly E. At this point, doesn't E have more money and more juice than Vince? Why is he still in Vince's orbit for anything other than the occasional foosball game?

Drama is his brother and Turtle is pathetic so I can see why they are still involved with Vince. But E? Makes no sense to me.

I'm not sure why I still watch this show. I think I have such affection from the first season that I can't stop. It frustrates me because this could have been really interesting. Yes, the lifestyle porn and endless ***** was fun, but I would like to have seen how successful actors transition from that. The show obviously is loosely based around Mark Wahlberg's career, but I think Vince is supposed to be a bit like Leonardo DiCaprio as well.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I find it hard to believe that either Leo or Marky Mark were still this disinterested in their careers and still living with their high school friends a decade into their careers.

Here's a question: How many movies has Vince made?

I'm actually going to waste my time doing this:

Head On - his breakout role, a romantic comedy with Jessica Alba. This would be his "The Notebook," I guess.

Queens Boulevard - the gritty independent movie that made people take notice. His "Boogie Nights" or "What's Eating Gilbert Grape."

Aquaman - His blockbuster. His Titantic.

Medellin - His huge flop. This is supposed to be a Heaven's Gate level of disaster, I think.

The Great Gatsby - His comeback, grown-up Scorsese picture. I guess this is his "Gangs of New York."

I still don't get how he is a huge movie star. He is, like, 35 and has made 5 movies. Only one is a blockbuster and he got fired from the sequel of that one. Gatsby is supposed to be big, but it's not like Scorses re-wrote box office history with "The Age of Innoncence" and Gatsby has always been unfilmable.

I guess he is supposed to be a Tobey Maquire-level star. But Tobey starred in three Spiderman movies. He was in a big hit in Seabiscuit. He had good roles in a critically accalimed Oscar-bait like Pleasantville, The Ice Storm, and Cider House Rules. And he's made, like, 20 movies.

Also, why would anyone want to hire Vince at this point? He has a huge flop under his belt. He walked away from a huge franchise beacuse he was pig-headed. He was fired from another would be blockbuster. And he's had a drug arrest. Could he even be insured now?

I disagree with some of you, I thought this was a very solid first episode. They had to involve all of the major storylines in a 30 minute show, it's tough to do, but I think Doug Ellin pulled it off exceptionally well. And for those who have been saying the show hasn't been as good as it was when it first started off, you can't expect the writers to keep following the same trend, it would be way too repetitive, they needed to change things up a bit, and thus, Vince hit rock bottom with his coke addiction.

I think this is the season where Piven gets to show off his acting skills, and when things get back to the normal with Vince ending up back on top.

Ari Gold, or Jeremy Pivens if you will, is the only reason I still watch this show. I also think Ari has said he always been faithful to his wife. Now before they got married they may be a different story. I think the whole point of the character is he is an ******* on the surface, but loyal to his family at the core.

You forgot to mention the racing/car movie he was doing too. And of course, he was also filming some random movie at the start of last season(the one with the stuntman/car crash that started his downward spiral).

Anyway, I'm glad the show is coming to an end. It has really gone downhill in recent seasons and the first episode of this season was not good. The show was at its best in seasons 2-3 with all the Aquaman/Medellin drama. Now it's trying to be all dark and edgy, something it never was.

:ols:

Would love to hear LKB's take on this season.

Once again, every major conflict or problem in the storyline is wrapped up in about 5 minutes.

Lol pretty much. Hell even E told Vince last night that usually everything works out. Once he said that, I knew he would pass.

My major problem with the show lately has been that it went from a comedy to a drama.

That'd be okay, except there is very little comedy now and the drama is all pretty lame and ends up getting resolved in one episode.

It really is too bad that the writing on the show has just gone down hill, starting around season 6. The show changed from a fun, guys type show to a whiny, teen-aged girls show, with more drama and stupid storylines that generally make the guys look bad.

The whole fun of the show was that is represented a part of Hollywood that was bigger than life and looked like lots of fun. Now, it is more a morality play that frankly just isn't that appealing.

Even when the show was a fun, guys type show, it still had very good and interesting storylines(the Aquaman plotline, Medellin, etc.).

After season 4 the show went downhill.

They should at least give us more SLOAN.

I agree. There might be a funny part here and there, but its definitely more of a drama now than anything.
