Where else should I look for a job?

Since most members are in the DC metro area, I'm asking a little help.

I've spent the past 3 weeks looking for a job. I understand that it will take some time, but I'm just asking for new places to look in to.

I graduated from GMU with BA in History and another in Psychology. Enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2007. Was a Chemical, Biological, Nuclear and Radiological Defense Specialist. Quickly became the section leader after I was the honor graduate of the Technical Escort Course. I also became heavily involved in the training and operations section of my unit. Worked in several operations control centers in various positions.

I hold a secondary MOS of Combat Marksmanship Instructor. I've trained over 200 Marines and Sailors in the basic fundamentals of marksmanship and some advanced combat as well as trained over 200 Afghan Army soldiers in basic marksmanship.

On my last deployment, I was a squad leader in provisional rifle squad. We were responsible for the day to day defense of my unit's main logistics base. I led over 100 patrols, supervised and transported over 200 detainees and supervised the security and preparations of over 50 high level leadership meetings.

First off, if you are in the position to get my name to the top of a pile (or hire someone), I have a resume that goes in to much more detail.

Second, where should I look? With whom should I look? Some of the jobs I've stumbled on have been sheer luck. Never heard of some of these companies, which isn't surprising given how many defense contractors there are in this area. None the less, I appeal to ES for a little help :)

I would keep looking at government contracting. I'm the contract specialist for a small contractor in Stafford, and people are always looking to fill billets. With Chem-Bio experience you should be able to find something. Get your resume to a recruiter or two that specialize in contractors, they'll be in contact with HR reps trying to fill billets in short amounts of time as contracts are awarded. I'll PM you our HR reps contact info if you want to get your resume to her.

My wife is a recruiter for CACI and always looking for people with clearances. Usually higher than Secret, but I would be happy to forward a resume.

Thanks. Could you PM me an email address? Even a few suggestions as to where to look would go a long way. I actually have written several resumes tailored to specific jobs.

Sick brag, OP

Not bragging. Lots of guys have done more than me. I knew a few that gave more as well.

EDIT - Job question: Say you're applying to a company and you see multiple jobs that you would be suited for. Do you apply for them all at once?

It may depend on the size of the company. If possible call a HR contact there and explain that you are doing this in case they screen applications first, or certain positions go to the same hiring manager. In many companies, applications are routed direct to the hiring manager for evaluation so I'd say yes regarding multiple, tailored applications. If the positions don't have the same hiring manager, your application needs to highlight your skills set for each position. While your resume shouldn't change, your cover letter should. For most positions I've hired for recently, with the volume of applications, I first scan the cover letter and maybe the resume summary. I don't allocate adequate time to review the applications I receive, and if the e-mail just says 'please consider me for your open positions, here is my resume', I'll probably hit delete.

Ah, they could be right, but I think it depends on the recruiter, too.

The kind of recruiter you want to work with will have a contract with the employer to find qualified staff. You are very likely best to stay away from any recruiter that wants a fee or have a contract with you.

Network

Was once told the best jobs available are those that aren't advertised ;)

No doubt. Contact every former colleague and tell them you are looking. Personal referrals are huge in hiring decisions.

Yup. Done already. That was my first step :D

Semper Fi brother! FBI is hiring big time. Be careful with the contracts, i've been shafted by them multiple times... not saying they aren't a good idea, but make sure the contract is legit and always check the length of the contract

For support personnel or agents? Not exactly sure how I feel about carrying a gun again ...

I used the student site back when I was a junior in highschool and was a finalist for a job at DISA working for an Admiral....sadly, I didnt have any work experience so they hired an older kid instead.

yea, USA Jobs is next. Problem is that its all automated and a job off there could take months. I'd much rather have employment while trying to get a govt job.

It will take months. That is why you need to start applying to gov't jobs NOW, along with other stuff. And make sure you are using vet points if you can claim them (5 or 10). Also make sure you are tailoring your resume to each job you apply for. Use keywords from the USAjobs announcement in your resume.

Both, they're are multiple ads out on the FBI for hirings in the field. ManTech is also hiring, but you'd have to carry a gun for the larger salary.

What type of job are you looking at doing though? I work with foreign military sales....companies that do similar things that are hiring are - Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, SAIC, Deloitte, BearingPoint...I'd look at sending them a resume...you seem pretty well qualified for any position.
