The point that has been made ad nauseam is that Ware is not really an OLB. He is a stand up DE. Dallas has never run a 3-4 Def, it just gets classified as such because there is no run of the mill def for a 5-2. Wade has stated as much over and over and over. So comparing Ware to James Harrison isn't really far. Harrison drops in coverage quite a bit. Orakpo was asked to cover a TE quite a bit. So comparing Ware to Orakpo is like comparing Wilfork to Kevin Williams. Yeah, they "technically" play the same position (DT), but they don't in actuality play the same position. not true, Ware and Rak play the same position and cover just about the same amount, reason Ware isnt ASKED to cover more, is simple, because....ummmm why??? he is so good at getting to the QB, thats where any DC would want him to be......... Dallas runs a 3-4. The notion that it is a 5-2 is purely semantics and wording..........trust me. I do not know how many coaching clinics you have been to??? But i have been to a lot and Dallas is a base 3-4.......and they run a hybrid 4-3/3-4 Defense....like many teams do. The Skins run a similar scheme......and the idea that Rak is in coverage that much more then Ware is Bull.......flat out Bull. If he drops back more, then it isnt by that much and like Wade said.......As good as he is at rushing the passer, its where you want him to be MOST OFTEN. He moves to both sides not just "weak" side OLB as someone once said..... Here you will see a sack with Ware, playing in the 3-4 def. Yes in a 2-pt stance, but this is a 3-4. I will not explain it because Greg Cosell did just fine ....the first sack shows Ware with an outside rush responsibility with a one-on-one rush VS a Tackle....beating him for a sack. Then starting at the 1:50 mark......pay attention to another "look" out of the 3-4 where Bradie James gets a sack of of a mismatch getting blocked by a RB...on this play, the credit should go to Rat for his ability to get across the face of the center by lining up in a 1-tech or in some defense's a "WS" Shade (weak side shade) as he lines up on the shoulder of the Center and gets across his face pulling him out of any chance of blocking Bradie....Bradie gets a free run through the gap, with the G having to take the DE or WSDT if you will.......who looked to be lined up on a 4-tech (head up on the tackle, but with Spencer on the outside the Tackle had to take Spencer leaving Brady one-on-one with the RB.........HOWEVER. keep paying attention to the play and the coverage. Very nicely explained by Greg Cosell, but pay attention to the Drop by Ware on the Strong side into his zone, which you may not think is a big deal, but his drop on that was perfect. So.......there is just one example....and trust me, Ware isnt drop[ping back a lot......why would he.........that's a sure fire way to get yourself canned as a DC.........but when he does drop into a zone or cover a back or TE on man coverage he gets the jo0b done more then he "doesn't" ---------- Post added May-24th-2011 at 08:32 AM ---------- Fair enough. That isn't really fair nor does it make any sense.....I have nothing to obsess on, but i do enjoy the debating that we do here from time to time.........but its hard to get into a debate with someone if the only thing that comes out of it is....if you disagree with TR1 you are obsessed??? Fact of the matter is....i really enjoy talking about football, debating football....and having discussions with other fans about football....especially since we are looking more and more like we wont have FOOTBALL!!! That hardly makes me obsessed.....
