Unless some whale like Walters hammers the line, I doubt it does much until much closer to gametime. Pretty even action on both sides right now.

If someone has a good reason to take Pitt please try to talk me out of green bay. I cant find any good reasons to back Pitt in this game.

I agree. I may just take the pack straight up...I just don't like 2.5 points. My luck packers win by 1.

Gotta say - betting against the Cavaliers, regardless of spread, is a pretty good idea right about now. They are losing at a phenomenal pace and by a lot of points every time. I think the average has gone down slightly, but at one point during their current losing streak they were losing by an average of 15.

My book has it at Steelers +3 -120. I think that's the best it's gonna get. I'm placing $120 on the Steelers.

I do think the Packers have a better passing game, but the Steelers defense is good enough to contain it. Steelers have more experience in the big game. Roethlisberger always seems to do just enough.

Locked in on first bet... Pitt ML +125. Prolly will add to it by Sun, but my team pick is made

Just think Steelers wont lose to 1 dimensional Offense, Ilike them in a hard fought game. Think they will hold on in end. Jim Rome stated the over on Wallace longest catch...26.5 now, kinda like that. Also, Wallace O/U 3.5 catches...like that to.

I have two bets going on the packers right now.

Some offshore loot on them moneyline to win it all, and then an office pool that i am in first place right now.

If the packers win sunday i will cash about 1200.

That said, GO PACK!!!!

Well, I've been waiting for the line to drop down to 2.5 again but anted up and took GB minus 3. Scaled my bet back just a tad but I really like them this weekend. They need to inplement the spread offense and throw out some 4 and 5 receiver looks and I think they can neutralize that vaunted Pitts defense. NE just shredded them earlier this year with this M.O. Also, I like the over but haven't thrown down on it...yet.

As a lark I entered a friend's office playoff pool and it's now down to just me and one other shmoe. We both have GB to win but if it hits 37 total pts (or any total under that number) she takes it and anything over 38 pts and I'm golden. We'll see. Best of luck to all bettors out there. I'm going to be adding some prop bets in the coming days that are worth looking at (something to spice things up in addition to boring staight pt spread plays).

Put another $100 on GB to go over their number of 23.5 for the game.

---------- Post added February-3rd-2011 at 08:50 AM ----------

here are some other prop bets to consider, some serious, some well not so much. I bolded some of the more interesting money plays:

1. Will the Team that Scores First Win the Game - No +155 (5Dimes.com): Let's begin by mentioning some of the props that were discussed on Bill Simmons' podcast. I forget who brought it up - it was either Chad Millman or Cousin Sal - but in the previous nine Super Bowls, six teams that scored first ended up losing the game. So getting this prop at +155 is definitely a good bargain.

2. Will There Be a Scoreless Quarter - No -250 (Bodog.com): I know Millman discussed this stat - in the previous six Super Bowls, there has only been one scoreless quarter. Again, this is a great value bet.

3. Hines Ward Receptions - Under 3.5 -125 (Bodog): I liked this one before I heard it on the BS Report. Here are Ward's reception totals against top competition this year: 2 (Jets), 3 (Ravens), 2 (Jets), 1 (Ravens), 0 (Patriots), 3 (Saints), 2 (Ravens).

4. Heath Miller Receiving Yards - Over 39.5 -110 (5Dimes): Here's another Steelers prop mentioned on the BS Report. The Packers have a great defense, but they've been susceptible to tight ends this year.

5. Combined Total Points - 71-75 Points +10000; 76-80 Points +15000 (Sportsbook.com): Cousin Sal introduced these two props, and Bill Simmons brought up a great point to support them. If they play this game 100 times, the odds that these teams will score between 71 and 80 points is much greater than 100:1. Thus, this is a solid value bet. You probably won't win betting on these items, but it's worth it to put just a little bit down on each because there's a chance you'll strike gold.

6. Will both teams make a field goal of 33 yards or more in the game - No -175 (Bodog): Millman mentioned this one last year; this has happened in only 10 of the 44 Super Bowls.

7. Green Bay Players with a Rush Attempt - Over 3.5 -265 (5Dimes): This will be the last prop I reference from the BS Report, so you can be assured that I did some research myself. Millman said a lot of sharps were playing this over. And it makes sense - with James Starks, Brandon Jackson, John Kuhn and Aaron Rodgers bound to run the ball, this is almost a lock to hit. And even if either Jackson or Kuhn doesn't get a carry, there might be some sort of end-around.

8. Team to have the most penalty yards in the game - Green Bay Packers +130 (Bodog): Conventional wisdom says the Steelers will win this prop because the NFL likes to make an example out of James Harrison. However, the Steelers are always suspected of paying off the refs. Think back to their previous two Super Bowl victories. How many shady calls went against the other teams? My dad refuses to bet on the Steelers because the Rooney family made its fortune long ago via sportsbooking back when it was legal. Thus, he's convinced that the refs always make sure to call everything so the Rooneys can win even more money.

9. Pittsburgh wins by 1-6 points +400; Green Bay wins by 1-6 points +335 (5Dimes): This is similar to Cousin Sal's scheme, but there's a good chance you'll get one of these two right. I anticipate a very close game, and as mentioned above, most of the recent Super Bowls have been close.

10. Joe Buck's Decibel Level on the Most Exciting Play of the Game - Under 0.000001 (Bodog): Just kidding. I made this one up.

10. Will Mason Crosby Miss a Field Goal - Yes +325 (Bodog): I couldn't believe the odds on this. I checked, and there has to be one attempt for this to count, so if Crosby is 0-for-0, there's no action. I like this prop because Crosby is just 3-of-5 in the playoffs in the past two years. There will be extra pressure in this game because it's the Super Bowl.

11. Green Bay Total Rushing Yards - Over 78.5 -115 (Sportsbook): The Packers rushing for 78.5 yards may seem like too much, but not when you factor in Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is bound to run for at least 20 yards, meaning Green Bay's backs will need 58.5 yards at the very most. The combination of Starks, Jackson and Kuhn has cleared that total in all three playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl.

12. Pittsburgh Third-Down Conversions - Over 5.5 +115 (5Dimes): The Steelers recorded 13 third-down conversions in their two playoff victories. And as I wrote earlier, "[Roethlisberger is] the master of moving the chains in third-and-long." That's one of the reasons I'm picking Pittsburgh to cover the spread.

I went the opposite direction. I said I would bet if the line moved to GB (-1), but I decided to take the Steelers on (+3). This should be a very close game, and I still think the packers may win...let's just hope it's by one two points! Can't wait for the game tonight! Be safe everyone and have a great super bowl party.

I won on both wagers yesterday: took GB and gave up the 3 pts (somewhat begrudingly) and also took the GB game total over of 23.5. Great way to end the season. Sorry to see it go so soon...

Hope everyone else fared well yesterday. That game lived up to all the hype leading up to it. It seems we've reversed the trend of boring Super Bowls with a few in a row that have all been great to watch. Enjoying the crow the Steelers backers are having to eat today. Losing will provide some much overdue humility.

Had Pitt on ML, but never fell in love. So actually doubled up bet on the over...Winner, Winner.

Feeling O-Line may be prob, I felt Pitt may be passing and took Over on Wallace and Ward Rec...Winner and Winner

Hit for Heads...Winner

Lost on Wallace over 26 for longest.

In all, + for the game, about even for season... happy and actually getting rreturn from the man in a way.

This may be a bit pre-mature but here are the early lines for next year's teams to go all the way. It seems a bit surprising to me that NE presently has the strongest odds to win it all. I'm definitely going to plunk down some coin on some of the top teams, forget about the bet for the months afterward, and hit on one of them. I think if you played the top six teams and spread your bets wisely, you'd certainly walk away with some money. Ended the NFL season up just shy of $2500, wish Goddell would expand the season next year! ;)

Arizona Cardinals +$10,000 (100 to 1)

Atlanta Falcons +$1,500 (15 to 1)

Baltimore Ravens +$1,200 (12 to 1)

Carolina Panthers +$30,000 (300 to 1)

Chicago Bears +$1,800 (18 to 1)

Cincinnati Bengals +$6,000 (60 to 1)

Cleveland Browns +$6,000 (60 to 1)

Dallas Cowboys +$1,800 (18 to 1)

Denver Broncos +$6,000 (60 to 1)

Detroit Lions +$5,000 (50 to 1)

Green Bay Packers +$600 (6 to 1)

Houston Texans +$3,500 (35 to 1)

Indianapolis Colts +$1,800 (18 to 1)

Jacksonville Jaguars +$6,000 (60 to 1)

Had Nova as part of a 2 team teaser last night so yeah, I'm pretty disgusted.

Thinking about putting the rest of my bank roll into a 3 team sweetheart teaser tonight. If I win great, if not I'll take a break until the tourney.

Here's what I'm considering:

Butler -9.5 (tease down to -1.5) vs Wright St

Vandy -6.5 (tease down to +1.5) vs Bama

UCLA -9 (tease down to -1) vs Oregon

I had Baylor (-6) as the third team in a parlay last night. They were up 7, I thought I had won, then the gametracker says Nebraska 3 pointer with 2 seconds left. I would like to see it if it was just one of those where the team that is winning just stopped playing and the guy just casually dribbles down the court and pulls up for 3. Anyhow it happened, bad beat.

Tonight I like FSU -1 @ GT

  • 1 month later...

March Madness action!

$55 on Villanova +1.5 vs. George Mason

$55 on Oakland +9.5 vs. Texas

I know Villanova is struggling right now, but I figure playing in the Big East gets them ready for the tourney, and they are going to want to have a shot against OSU. Not underestimating George Mason, but I think the Wildcats are the better team. Oakland is a popular upset pick. They played a tough schedule and could give Texas a game. Might come down to free throws at the end, which sucks, but that's the risk you take when betting basketball.

Yeah man I'm still betting, been on the tournament every round. 3-2 so far, last bet being $55 on Arizona +5.5 against Texas.

Taking a big shot tonight, $165 on Butler +4.5. I see them with a very legitimate chance of winning, and could at least beat the spread.
