Well the things we do this offseason reflect on next years draft. We won't be getting any compensatory picks this year.

compensatory picks only come into to play when you lose players through FA because their contracts have been fulfilled to completion... if you cut the player then he does not qualify.

Compensatory picks only apply to free agents, not cut players.

Losing a big free agent this year would get us a pick in the 2011 draft.

If we lose someone who is a free agent, and they go sign a big contract with another team, we could get a pick for the following year.

Since we cut them we get nothing.

Except that we cut the players so we won't receive any compensation for them in the 2011 draft.

I don't think the Redskins lost anyone in free agency last year that would garner compensation since Haynesworth was signed.

Cut players isn't the same as losing a player to free agency. You don't get comp picks for making a cut.

We did, but you don't get the picks till the year after that player was lost.

There was a post a short while ago about getting the "Mr. Irrelavent" pick for some reason. The guy that does the projections each year (and quite well) said the skins could end up with a pick. I'll see if I can find the thread. It's a non-compensatory pick (in the compensatory system). Whatever...we might get another pick (really just dibs on the first UDFA...)

I think so. But I think the pick round is determined by the amount of money he signs with his next team.
