Renegade7
Watching Suisham handle his business fillin in for Hunter was awesome to watch. The battle in training camp he went thru with what's his face was a good move and has proven to have paid off well. Now if we can just let Devin Thomas and Santana return punts instead of Randel El, we might have an above average special teams unit.

jujuskinsfan
Been pleasantly surprised with Suisham. Hope he continues to kick well. And I hope Madden increases his rating cuz it sucks not being able to make a field goal over 40 yards with him. :hysterical: I agree. G.A.C.O.L.B.
Oh....how long is he going to be MIA? In the Post they have Danny Smith saying that he doesn't think it should be too long. That they're waiting to see what the MRI he's getting tomorrow (today) says before they make any projections though. Isn't the groin what always ailed John Hall when he was here? That dude was out like 10 games a year with that. Hopefully it's nothing like that. It's been nice having a real punter. Seriously, I am DONE with Randle El returning punts. He gets worse every game. I'm not sure I've ever seen a punt returner overrun a punt like ARE did today.
str8jacket
props to Suisham. I wanted so badly to replace him in the offseason. But he has done a really good job and has been the vast majority of our offense and did an excellent punting job. Could have been way way worse today if he doesnt step in and do that well. (please refer to joe theismann and his glorious -1 yarder versus chicago)
scruffylookin
No you are totally right i missed the entire play, BFD! and honestly feel like an *** for assuming that suisham missed one but alas it was blocked, heaven forbid I assume suisham was to blame, he never misses...by the way our team is so sub par let's really get it together and start "appreciating" our kicker. Maybe next week we can root for the towel boy....truly astounding play by our kicker whoo hoo!!! Let me further educate you. You do realize that Shaun is the franchise record holder for FG percentage right? I know alot of people have gotten off on bashing Suisham but he has been a good kicker for us. He's by no means elite (yet ) but he's been solid and that is something we have not had since Lohmiller.

To take it a bit further, he is young. We passed on a young David Akers because he missed a couple FGs. We all wish we had stuck with him now, don't we? Suisham is young enough that if given the chance can be an above average kicker for a decade. I don't think he will rival Adam Clutch, but he will prevent the decade of 1995-2004 from repeating. We had like 18 kickers in that span. Some seasons using 4 different kickers. If we stick with him, he could repay that investment with a decade of worry free kicking. GhostofSparta
I didn't want to make the Mods lives hell by starting a new thread that wasn't really necessary, so instead I'll bump this one So far this year, Swishy is 6/6, with a long of 42. And considering how people cringe at his chip shot field goals, I figure this is a great improvement so far. http://www.nfl.com/players/shaunsuisham/profile?id=SUI593274 Go Swishy! da#1skinsfan
His kickoffs are absolutely brutal. I know I hate to be negative but Im still kind of steamed from this loss. Its true though, the guy MAYBE gets it in the end zone 10% of the time. To understand the importance of this, for example the Panthers have a roster spot devoted to a guy who does NOTHING but boot it in the end zone 95% of the time he kicks it. Yeah, but can anybody say we really have the depth to devote 4 roster spots exclusively to special teams players? Including 3 kickers? (Swishy, Hunter, X guy) Or right now it would be 4 kickers with our new punter? Plus, let's not forget that may be Danny Smith's call. He may want the ball placed around the 5 instead of in the endzone for the chance of a fumble, a holding penalty, whatever.

GhostofSparta
We have 5 running backs... True, and we also have a need at LB (especially SLB) that I'd have fixed before I go with a kickoff specialist. But each person sees a different need. Not that we wouldn't benefit from getting a TB everytime there's a kickoff, but sometimes you have to have better depth elsewhere. Not that this team is actually using roster space at its optimal level, but...
da#1skinsfan
I dont necessarily think we should have a roister spot devoted to a kicker for kickoffs Im just saying, having a guy who can avoid returns is of significant value. In a perfect world Suishy would shoot up some HGH in his thigh or something and get an NFL leg. Its pathetic when you need to go for it on 4th and 3 on the 35 because you know your kicker cant go 50 yards.

But when he missed a couple long ones in preseason, didn't he miss wide and not short? That seems like a problem that's easier to fix. Like I pointed out, his long this year is 42 yards (so his longest kick would be from what....the 25?), but he's still perfect on his chip-shots, which is better than last year. Cannon2
Seriously. I couldn't have hated this guy more last year, but I have to admit I was wrong. Botched
I have been a big Suisham hater in the past but the guy is 100% on field goals so far this year. Can't complain about that, great job Shaun!
