Chiefinonhaze
I dont understand why everyone is so worried about our pass rush. The highest point total we have give on up on defense this year is 24, and one of those times was because of Reggie Bush punt return. We usually only give up 14-18 points every game. If we had a decent offense, we could be 8-2 IMO. Pass rush is the least of my worries right now, because our defense is playing well. It is our defense philosopy to top the run first, which we do well. If you can make a team one dimensional, you can shut their offense down. We may not rush the passer too well, but our defense can stop the run and cover well. Would I like to have a pass rush? of course. But if we do emphasize a pass rush, our run defense will face a drop off. It is evry rare a team can rush the passer well, and stop the run well, while still covering all of the wide recievers. When a defense can click on all cylinders like that, you then get the 2000 ravens Defense. Right now, our defense is certainly playing well enough to win us a lot of games, but our offense is lacking.

skinfan2k
One game you will need pressure because high profile QBs will find WRs open
Slateman
Our defense isn't playing well enough to win us games. They're playing well enough not to lose them. Defenses that win games put a ton of pressure on the opposing QBs, shut down guys like Marion Barber and Brandon Jacobs, and, oh yes, generate turnovers. TheLongshot
To borrow from Blache our defense is what it is. We all knew going into this season that this defense was not going to be a great pass rushing team. What we did know was that we were usually strong against the run and that we had one of the best secondaries in the league. Unfortunately, the run defense took a hit with losing Daniels. Despite what a lot of people thought on this board, Daniels is a good player in the run game and he is missed. No, the defense isn't going to win too many games on their own, but you shouldn't have to put your defense into position where they need to do it on a regular basis. The offense needs to go out there and produce to make things a little easier on the defense. Because when you hang your defense out to dry, they can't throw a shutout forever. Eventually they will wear down and the other team will score. Most of the focus should be our production on offense, because that is what has always held this team down. Cooooley47
Well the pass rush can help the offense put points on the board by forcing turnovers and giving the offense better field position. Look at the Dallas game. Landry blitzed up the middle, Romo sits to pee gets rid of the ball quickly, ball is tipped and Rocky picks it off. Keeps Dallas from scoring and gives the O a chance to put up points. But I do agree that the D is not the problem, its the O. But if the Skins can get pressure on the QB, that can only help the offense in the long run.

We should be thanksful we don't have the Saints defense.
Metskins
You win in this league by pressuring the quarterback. It's that simple.
CjSuAvE22
Sigh...pash rush is definately a major concern the lack of it doesnt give us many turnovers and we rely on our corners and safeties to play really good coverage by giving opposing qbs lots of time to throw. I dont know where people get ideas like the lack of pass rush isnt a major concern...its like saying during the first 8 games how JC didnt throw any interceptions and that was so great true but he only had 1 td per game average and now the lack of offensive tds has caught up with us and so will the lack of pass rush if we dont start knocking qbs down. Metskins
Only on ES is the pash rush overrated by some. Agreed. Think how different the Dallas game would have looked if a) we could have gotten pressure on Romo sits to pee and we were able to give Campbell time to throw down the field. Some people just want to look at one stat and build a whole case around it. It's never that simple.
StillUnknown
doesn't matter how good our defensive backs are, if we give a QB 7 secs to throw the ball they will burn us

[[ghost]]
Our defense is great. Its just that our pass rush is the weak link. Its definitely a cause for concern. Imagine- this defense is phenomenal, ranking #4 overall. Its only allowed 2 200+ yard passers, and one of those was Tony Romo sits to pee throwing a billion times. Now imagine that defense with a pass rush that was actually above average.

The cowboys are one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL, and to hold them to 14 points is a great accomplishment. Their defense is rather weak, and if we would have put up a measly 17 points we would have won. Pass rush is not the problem imo, we are playing great defense. Would it help? Of course, but you can't always have everything. Be happy at the level our defense is playing and hope our offense can match that production. Not true! The Eagles lead the league in sacks. And there record is? Run the football and stop the run. Not sack the QB. Hell, the Colts had only 25 sacks the year they won the Super Bowl. Teams that stop the run, go far. Thats a fact.

TheItalianStallion
The colts also had a high powered offense......a REALLY high powered offense and could win with a mediocre defense....Their offense was nothing special in the first couple playoff games. Hell, it was nothing special in the actual Super Bowl. The only postseason game where their offense did anything was the AFC championship vs. NE.You pretty much made the OP's point: the Redskins' concern shouldn't be defense, it should be OFFENSE. FrFan
Tell the Giants, Steelers, Titans about it. We are 27th and probably lower after this game. I'm sure with just a decent pass rush we would have been better.
Slateman
Thats why we need a pass rush. The Redskins sent at least 6 after Haselback. He couldn't step up to throw and threw a wobbling duck. Landry picks it off and returns it for some more yards Redskins score 4 plays later Pass rush = turnover = our offense getting more chances to score
