I would say that for an offseason ranking they are right.....

In some peoples eyes, we have not addressed our problems with the DL and OL...and gotten better at our strengths...LB and DB.

Do we get a whole lot better by ignoring weaknesses and addressing strengths?

Until we show some desire to address our weaknesses people should expect a 6-10 season because one game is all that addressing strengths might give you.

We had a lot of holes this offseason and we addressed all but depth and youth at the Defensive End. The Offensive Line had a pretty good year last year, and we lost only Dockery. We added experienced veterans in Fabini and Ross Tucker (who will compete with the players we already had last year), and we re-signed Todd Wade.

Youth and depth Defensive Tackle was addressed in last year's draft and Defensive End was helped last year in Free Agency (Carter). It's not exactly a team weakness if we can develop Golston, Montgomery, and Sykes. Carter is still fairly young. It would be nice to add another Defensive End as they come available this offseason. Otherwise, I think we'll be okay at DE for next year with Carter, Daniels, Wynn and possibly Sykes in the rotation. At DT, we're fairly set until next offseason. We don't have greatness at these positions, but we have experience and stability. Hopefully, that's all we need to have a decent defense for next year and we can worry about greatness the following year.

This was a team last year decimated by injuries at the LB and DB last year. Depth was a serious question at those positions. I believe we addressed that situation in the draft and hopefully this will pay off in a few years (like we hope Golston and Montgomery will pay off this year and possibly next).

Patriots - 2007: Just one minute away from a trip to the Super Bowl, the Patriots were arguably the NFL's most active team this offseason, adding big-ticket items such as Randy Moss and Adalius Thomas.

Redskins - 2000: Just a botched field-goal away from a the NFC Championship game, the Redskins were arguably the NFL's most active team this offseason, adding big-ticket items such as Dieon Sanders and Bruce Smith.

cut n paste journalism.

Wow, it's May and we're in a hissy fit about power rankings.

It's commonly understood that there's at least 4 teams that no one sees coming every year. These power rankings are only slightly less ridiculous than when ESPN played out the entire season last year with daily arguments.

After last years pathetic performance by the players and coaching staff, we are right where we deserve to be in this years rankings.

Training camp hasn't even started yet and we are already having issues with Springs and Taylor. We didn't get any help on the D-line. Coach Williams is looking for another LB'er, so what does that tell you about the player that we traded up, down and sideways to get last year, Mr. McIntosh?

I see our offense improving this year but I've got a lot of doubts about our defense. Same garbage as last year. If I'm wrong or missing something here, please let me know.

no surprises here....

power rankings during the offseason are useless anyway.

yes, and they are SO USELFUL during the season. Remeber when New England lost the AFC playoff game but got to the SuperBowl because they had a higher power ranking than the Colts? that was awesome.

Yeah I think we have all the potential in the world...however...

Previous strong offseasons have lead to little success...

We weren't good on either side of the ball last year...

So ESPN has got it about right...maybe give or take 2 spots...

2007 Power Rankings: Offseason RK (LW)TEAMRECCOMMENTnwe.gif1 (3)Patriots12-4-0Just one minute away from a trip to the Super Bowl, the Patriots were arguably the NFL's most active team this offseason, adding big-ticket items such as Randy Moss and Adalius Thomas. ind.gif2 (4)Colts12-4-0What, the Pats sign a receiver or two and everyone forgets about the defending Super Bowl champs? Fine. But let's see Randy Moss or Tom Brady do better than Peyton did on "Saturday Night Live."sdg.gif3 (1)Chargers14-2-0Weird offseason for the Chargers. They're clearly one of the NFL's most talented teams and will be there in the postseason. But the way their season ended and the firing of Marty Schottenheimer has created some negative feelings.bal.gif4 (2)Ravens13-3-0If he's healthy, Willis McGahee is going to be a stud in Baltimore and will give the running game a boost over Jamal Lewis.chi.gif5 (5)Bears13-3-0Lance Briggs is unhappy. Cedric Benson is unproven. And Rex Grossman is still Rex Grossman. The good news is the Bears are still in the NFC North.nor.gif6 (6)Saints10-6-0A great offense added another weapon with first-round WR Robert Meachem. The Saints strengthened their secondary, but there are still concerns about a defense that couldn't stop the run last year.den.gif7 (12)Broncos9-7-0After a disappointing end to the 2006 season, the Broncos were extremely busy this offseason, adding impact starters in TE Daniel Graham, RB Travis Henry and CB Dre' Bly. Denver should push the Chargers in the AFC West.phi.gif8 (7)Eagles10-6-0We can sort of understand why Donovan McNabb would be confused by the drafting of Kevin Kolb. But at the same time, should a franchise QB really be that concerned about a rookie second-round pick?dal.gif9 (11)Cowboys9-7-0The Cowboys' players sure seem glad to have Wade Phillips in place of Bill Parcells. But will he actually make them a better team?cin.gif10 (14)Bengals8-8-0While their tough schedule was partly to blame, the Bengals' 8-8 finish last season was a disappointment. Anything short of a trip to the playoffs in 2007 will be equally disappointing.sea.gif11 (9)Seahawks9-7-0Shaun Alexander's health. That's as simple as it gets for the Seahawks. Seattle needs a healthy Alexander to regain its spot among the elite teams in the NFC.nyj.gif12 (8)Jets10-6-0It might not have made the same kind of headlines as the Patriots' grabbing Randy Moss, but the Jets' acquisition of running back Thomas Jones could end up being one of the best moves of the offseason.pit.gif13 (13)Steelers8-8-0It's pretty obvious for the Steelers. If Ben Roethlisberger returns to form, the Steelers are clearly a playoff contender. But if he's closer to the QB who struggled last season, the Steelers will be in trouble.jac.gif14 (17)Jaguars8-8-0So, do a quarterback (Byron Leftwich) and head coach (Jack Del Rio) need to like each other for a team to succeed? Guess we'll find out this year in Jacksonville.sfo.gif15 (23)49ers7-9-0In the wide-open NFC West, there's no reason the 49ers can't compete for a playoff spot this season.car.gif16 (20)Panthers8-8-0The Panthers had a solid draft, but after falling in love with them last season (see Super Bowl predictions) only to get crushed, it's safer to take a wait-and-see approach for now. nyg.gif17 (16)Giants8-8-0Brandon Jacobs might be the biggest risk/reward player in fantasy football for 2007. stl.gif18 (18)Rams8-8-0The Rams had a solid offseason and appear ready to keep moving forward in Scott Linehan's second season. atl.gif19 (22)Falcons7-9-0The Falcons have put their future in the hands of Michael Vick. Who could be so, umm, bold? We're drawing a Blank. kan.gif20 (10)Chiefs9-7-0Damon Huard played well last year and Brodie Croyle might have a bright future, but it's pretty clear that QB is a major issue in Kansas City right now.ten.gif21 (15)Titans8-8-0Didn't exactly add any playmakers to the offense, but they still have VY and offensive coordinator Norm Chow, and that's good enough. (BTW, how is Chow not a head coach somewhere yet?)ari.gif22 (28)Cardinals5-11-0Looks like the Cardinals are going to be a popular ''sleeper'' pick again. Will this be the year they actually wake up and make something happen?buf.gif23 (21)Bills7-9-0The Bills clearly wanted to get younger this offseason, waving goodbye to a number of key veterans. But will it make them better on the field? That's largely in J.P. Losman's hands. gnb.gif24 (19)Packers8-8-0Justin Harrell may be a good player, but why not get Brett Favre some playmakers instead of supplementing a defense that returns 11 starters? min.gif25 (26)Vikings6-10-0Adrian Peterson is the kind of player who can turn a franchise around. He'll make QB Tarvaris Jackson that much better and by the end of the year, this may be the best offense in the NFC North. mia.gif26 (24)Dolphins6-10-0With Trent Green as their starting QB, the Dolphins could be a solid team. With Cleo Lemon, not so much.tam.gif27 (29)Buccaneers4-12-0How many QBs does a team need? Jeff Garcia, Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkowski, Luke McCown and, just for fun, maybe Jake Plummer. Clipboards for everybody!was.gif28 (27)Redskins5-11-0Obviously Jason Campbell will be in the spotlight in Washington. But the glare will be even brighter on defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Regarded as one of the NFL's best defensive minds, Williams' defense ranked 31st in the NFL last season.hou.gif29 (25)Texans6-10-0Matt Schaub is doing all the right things early and adding Ahman Green will help. Just one small detail the Texans forgot: get a few big guys who can block. det.gif30 (31)Lions3-13-0Greatest Show on Turf, Part II? With WRs Roy Williams, Mike Furrey and Calvin Johnson, Mike Martz must be having flashbacks to his days in St. Louis.cle.gif31 (30)Browns4-12-0The Browns had a solid offseason, remaking their offensive line with the addition of Joe Thomas and Eric Steinbach. But a solid offseason won't help Romeo Crennel if the Browns have another 4-12 seasonoak.gif32 (32)Raiders2-14-0The reviews on Lane Kiffin and JaMarcus Russell have been all positive. But as good as they might be, they're going to take a lot of lumps this year.

It appears again that the Skins are ranked in the lower eschelon defensively, however I feel like we will improve on that ranking this year provided we are able to field a healthy D. Offensively, a great deal of our success will rest on the shoulders of Campbell, hopefully he has grasped sufficient knowledge of the Saunders system which will enable him to surpass expectations.

I can't argue with the ranking right now. The Skins have to win to earn respect. Although, ESPN's ranking and predictions have been off in years past. If I remember correctly, many ESPN guys had us going to the NFC championship game last year. So we'll see how things turn out this year.
