I'm very happy they put the prelims on Facebook, like others have said, make a BS account (no picture needed) and watch 'em. I don't see what the big deal is. Fake name, fake picture, fake tits, fake everything. I don't use Twitter at all, but if the prelims were streamed on that website I'd sign up for that reason alone.

The quality of the streams is another story...big pixels and choppy enough to be somewhat annoying. If I'm not up to date with at least one of the fighters I'll ignore the fight because the streams aren't streamlined, so to speak.

By the way, this is a really good story on Chris Leben, talks about Wand being one of his heroes. Also gives some good thoughts on his career and where he's at mentally.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Leben-Excited-to-face-Hero-Silva-at-UFC-132-33569

Chris Leben's style of fighting is a rarity at the highest level of MMA.

A quintessential slugger, the Oregon native will often take several shots just to land one of his trademark bombs. Known as one of the most exciting if not consistent fighters in the UFC's middleweight division, Leben will face Wanderlei Silva in the co-main event of UFC 132 on July 2.

It was about nine years ago that “The Crippler” claims he first desired to climb in the cage with Silva. In fact, the Brazilian served as one of Leben's sources of inspiration as a developing fighter.

“Honestly, I’m so excited to fight Wanderlei Silva. He's one of my heroes. Believe it or not, when I first started fighting, I’d go get bootleg Pride videos and watch him and try to emulate some of the things that he did,” said Leben during the UFC 132 conference call. “To be a legend, you've got to beat a legend. I’m so stoked. The passing of the torch is kind of what I’m hoping for.”

Though Leben openly expresses the excitement he feels from facing an icon like “The Axe Murder,” the southpaw is equally open regarding his reservations about fighting an opponent as infamous as the traditionally violent Silva.

“[silva] is an animal, you know? There's nothing more motivating than the fear of a coma,” said Leben. “I’m focusing a lot harder on my diet, and when I’m in the gym, I’m in the gym 110 percent. I’m putting everything in, and I want to go out and win this fight. But regardless if I win, lose or draw, I want to put on a fantastic show for the fans. I might be a little worried, but I’m going to get in there and do what I do. We look our fears in the eye and then we conquer them.”

In spite of his admitted trepidation with respect to his opponent, Leben is by no means satisfied with simply showing up to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Leben has used his power and toughness to overcome seemingly more skilled opponents in the past, and the fighter believes that Saturday will prove to be no exception.

“I have fought guys in the past who I thought were better fighters than me, and truth be told, I ended up winning those fights. Looking back at my career, I’ve won a lot of fights that I should have lost on paper, and that's just grit,” said Leben. “I want to be known as a top guy. If you're fighting Chris Leben, you need to be careful, because you know he's coming to fight.”

Leben recently had a three-fight winning streak snapped in January when he was knocked out by Brian Stann at UFC 125, a loss that “The Crippler” says he took especially hard.

Gonna be a tough fight to watch for me. I like both guys so much.

I like Leben a lot, but it pales in comparison to how much of a Wanderlei fan that I am. I am going to be pretty fired up when I hear this song on Saturday night. It has been a while...

Facebook is worth a lot of money because they have a database of marketing information on all of their users that the users provide for free that they then sell, in various forms, to other companies. I do not fear facebook or are paranoid of them, I just value the information that they make money off almost as much as they do. If Facebook wants to offer me 50% of all revenues associated with the distribution of my personal information, then I will sign up in a heartbeat. I am starting to get scarred of how vigilantly people will defend Facebook, like someone was talking crap about their mom.

And streaming could be the worst possible way to delivery media, at least here in North America. Americans complain about ISP rates as they are high in the US compared to the rest of the World, but you know who pays higher rates than US internet users? Me and my fellow Canadians. To watch 1 hour of HD streaming on my computer would cost me at least $25, and much more if I was already over my limit, so even the suggestion of streaming over UFC.com would not help me out. Netflix had to downgrade it's HD movies and shows that it started streaming via Netflix Canada because people where complaining that they where going over their data limits by streaming 1 movie a week. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/technology/tech-news/netflix-tweaks-canadian-service-to-lower-data-usage/article1961342/

I do not think anyone is defending facebook, I do nto see the appeal but I have a dummy account so I can watch the fights.....as for your Canadian troubles well you already had 1 strike agains t you by waking up in the morning cause your in Canada!

But seriously that sucks.....

I like how in this thread nobody rags on you for saying you miss Pride.

I miss Pride.

It was cool while Spike had that "Best of Pride Fighting Championships" show on for a while. I don't know if it's still airing but it was nice to re-live some of those great battles in that classic Japanese atmosphere.

It is still on every once in a while, but I don't think it has a normal day/time. Then again, I don't know if anything on Spike does. I watched a little of it on like a Thursday afternoon a few weeks ago.

Rick Story's wrestling was obviously not on, that fight was a big momentum killer for a fast-rising contender.

Talked to Ricky the other night, and this is exactly what he admitted. He didn't make excuses, but basically said he hasn't trained wrestling in over 3 months. He wasn't worried about his wrestling against Alves and trained almost solely for standup against Alves in the lead-up to the fight...which my husband noticed during the Alves fight when he yelled "Ricky's wrestling's gone to ****!" lol. With Marquardt, he trained for a taller striker because he knew his base wrestling was way better than Marquardt's. Then he got a wrestler at the last second. Again, not an excuse, just a tough situation and Brennenman out-wrestled him and got the win.

Good news, I think my husband convinced him to come out to the OTC to beef up his wrestling before his next fight, so that will be good.

Hopefully his next opponent doesn't OD on testosterone for a completely bogus medical condition before the next fight. :ols:

That's what I was thinking, the focus wasn't on defensive wrestling throughout camp. Even after a loss, his career is looking up.

- He fought just one month after earning a win over the #3 WW.

- His original opponent felt it was necessary to cheat in order to beat him

- The way all that ugliness went down with the 'roids or whatever makes everyone sympathize with Rick.

- The gameplan that he worked towards throughout camp needed immediate adjustment (without any focus training). Brennaman's wrestling pedigree is something you have to be really prepared for.

- Easy to see a rematch in the (near) future between Story and Brennamen -- If they both put a couple wins together, how about, say, "UFC Fight Night 30: Brennamen vs. Story II" Yeah, I like that :), but on to the next fight. Story will in all likelihood fight on the main card next time up. All things considered.

Good to Hear Ricky has a positive attitude, he really got screwed and I can only hope for his career that Dana & Joe Silva (match maker) take the circumstances into consideration when they make his next fight. I can't think of one UFC fan I know who does not root for Ricky or enjoy watching his fights. Once I heard Nate dropped out I thought that was a no win situation for Ricky, if he won people would not give him the credit as he should be able to beat CB, and if he lost it would have knocked him down a rung or two. Here's hoping Ricky's next fight is the title eliminator match that I and a lot of other people think he deserves. I personally think after GSP fights Diaz, no matter what the outcome, the champ should fight the winner of Kampmann v.Story, both guys are great fighters and have had some bad luck in the UFC. They are not the hottest guys in the division, but I think they are the best of the division who has not had a title shot yet.

As for Nate, Chael and all these other UFC fighters saying they need Testosterone Replacement Therapy, quit your lying you are not fooling anyone. Some men are affected by low testosterone levels, but they usually are not elite athletes who train to fight. Do they seriously expect the public to believe they suffer naturally from low testosterone levels in a sport that is pretty much fueled by testosterone? The most common way a fighter ends up with low testosterone levels is due to previous steroid or hormone abuse, so I have a hard time having sympathy for people who put themselves in bad situations.

kampmann's lost 2 straight (even if they were controversial), he's not in the mix for any title eliminators. Its more likely that Condit would be included in the title picture before Story (provided Condit beats Kim, which i don't think he will)

I'm super excited about 132 but I'm heading out of town this weekend and may not be able to see it live...

I ordered it at home and have it set to DVR but honestly, if I get a chance to see it live somewhere, I'll probably go ahead and do it anyway. If not, then I won't be around here until early next week, :(

UFC heavyweight title contender Junior Dos Santos has parted ways with Ed Soares and signed with a new manager, Ana Claudia Guedes.

He announced the news personally today, but did not give a reason for the split. Soares spoke to Tatame in Brazil and said that Dos Santos had not given specific reasons for wanting to end their relationship, but hinted he had seen today’s break coming.

“It wasn’t a complete surprise to me. To be pretty honest, with everything we see in the fighting world, it’s hard to get caught by surprise. It wasn’t an argument or anything like that. It was all OK. If the guy doesn’t want to work with us, how can I force him to? It won’t be a good relationship,” he said.

“The work we did together was successful. We (managers) did what we were supposed to do, he did his job in the Octagon, and we had to put together a great team to help him to get there. Let’s see what happens now. I hope it all works out just fine for him.

“I’m sad, I’d be lying if I told you otherwise, but I don’t wish people bad things.”

Dos Santos’ new representative is an attorney who has long experience in the entertainment industry and specialises in contracts, intellectual property law, image rights and more. She describes her specialities as “All aspects of media, advertising, entertainment, and IP law. Contract negotiations, including structuring licensing and sponsorship deals, and resolution of breach of contract and other business disputes.”

Dos Santos earned a shot at the heavyweight title when he defeated Shane Carwin at UFC 131. As part of Black House he trained alongside Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and there may have been tension between them, as both want the heavyweight title.

Recently Nogueira made the following comments, which could indicate he and Dos Santos didn’t see eye-to-eye all the time.

“I root so much for Cigano. The boy deserves the belt. We’re a team but I still intend to look for the title again. I received the green signal from the doctors so I had no reason to postpone my comeback,” he said.

Dos Santos recently said that in his opinion, returning to action in August was too soon for Nogueira, and that he should take longer to rest and prepare after his extensive surgeries.

“I have to disagree with Junior. I am a professional fighter and make my living fighting… doctors and my physical therapist gave me the guarantee that I can perform,” he said, referring to his recent hip surgeries.

Dos Santos has already disappeared from the roster of fighters at BlackHouseMMA.com

JDS parts ways with Ed Soares, Blackhouse

I wonder if his boxing coach was apart of Blackhouse or if he's taking him with him.

Hmmmm... To start a whole new team for his title shot when Blackhouse got him this far is ponderous... really ponderous.

Well now after looking at sherdog again after posting that, a member just posted a translated interview with JDS about an hour ago. It's saying that he's just leaving Ed Soares not Blackhouse which is not as big of news and probably a good move for him. :ols:

So, today Chael Sonnen is eligible for another appeal and reinstatement by the Commission.

Does anyone have any news on this - whether he plans to re-appeal right away, or any other info or opinions ?

there's a wonderful new service called google that might help you out

I cant argue with that, Kampmann is not as deserving of a shot as some other guys, but I still think he is one of the best WW not to get a title shot. Basically, as bad as I feel for Ricky, I feel almost twice as bad for Martin as he was the sacrificial lamb for Jake Shields first UFC fight, and then gets screwed by the judges vs Diego. I am just saying I would like to see Kampmann v Story, but Kampmann will need a few wins before he gets back to even where Ricky is sitting now. my WW rankings go GSP, then a group of 3 or so Fitch, Shields Diaz and then I have Story, Kampmann& Ellenberger right behind that group and slightly ahead of Koscheck. Since GSP has beat all other guys on my list, I would like to see a fight between the "best of the rest" so to say to see who gets the next shot at GSP. IMO Kampmann and Story are the most skilled WW's not to fight for the title yet.

I wish GSP would either lose the belt to Diaz or at least give it up and move to MW and have some sort of tournament for the WW belt. Actually, now that I type that, it might be better suited to 155 as that division is just stacked at the top with 10-12 guys.

Guillard been calling for LW grand prix to determine the #1 contender since the titles been held up for awhile while Maynard & Edgar deal with injuries

it makes too much sense, so it probably won't happen :ols:
