Andy Pollin MUST GO!!!!!

Not to be a Richard, But if you hate Pollin so much, why do you listen to him? You seem to know every topic he covers, so my guess is you are angry because you were just recently freed by hostage negotiators, from an empty room, where you were tied to a chair and the hostage takers made you listen to Pollin over and over again. Otherwise I don't quite understand your issue with him. Turn the dial, as they say.

I'm 36, and a huge sports fan with one station in town to choose from. What am I going to listen to, WPGC? No, because I graduated from HS many years ago. Believe it, at night during winter I often listen to WFAN and WIP. And I never listen to WTEM while he's on at work because the radio world is my oyster.

Also I've learned that if I feel someone or something is taking advantage of me or the public at large (read: monopoly), attempt to change it for the better by bringing it to light.

Let's be totally honest here. The DC area sports talk/news scene is putrid at best. But we are too blinded by Skins loyalty to care.

George Micheal is the de facto king and is basically a highlights guy.

The stations sports guys are zombies and draw little interest.

The problem with the team is that its too TK-centric.Heck I remember when it started and Murrry in the Morning & the "Sports Babe were on there. Now its just there and offers little to keep one's interest. When XM came along I jumped at the oppornuity.

It's just sports radio. Pollin's main purpose is to give TK someone to make fun of.

I like Czaban because although he's a big fan of the local sports teams, he's still pretty objective. He doesn't fawn over every move the Skins make like Doc Walker does.

Let me play.

I stopped listening a while ago but I do have a moronic Pollin statement that sticks out in my mind. I listened to his postgame show after the Vikings game in 2004 (season finale). Ladell Betts just had a good game, I believe he ran for over 100 yards. Clinton Portis was hurt and Betts started in his place. Anyway, Pollin spent the entire freaking show talking about how Ladell Betts is a better back than Portis and is a better fit for a Joe Gibbs offense.

I agree, the DC market is filled with big time sports teams (college and pro), we deserve far better sports talk radio than the garbage we're currently stuck with.

The way they ran Portis in Gibbs' first year back you could definitely argue that Portis wasn't the right style of RB for Gibbs' 2004 system....

plorell, I'm with you 100% on this one.

As a sports station, WTEM is the worst and it all starts and stops with Pollin because he is the program director.

He is on radio way too much during the course of the day.

He know's nothing about sports other than what he reads in the paper.

I also listen to national sports stations late at night when I happen to be out and about and the difference is amazing.

Their best talent over the years have left for better gigs elsewhere and we're left with him.

They push the guys that actually know something about sports to the weekend.

My only concern regarding Snyder's attempt to start a radio station is that he continues to hire people who were responsible with running WTEM.

Hopefully, Snyder can do it right and we'll finally have a sports station to listen to.

Plorell, you made a statement about "Pollin taking phone calls after every major sporting event." Is this something you disagree with? Probably my biggest complaint about the "Sports Reporters" is that they don't take more calls from the listeners, like, say, WIP in Philly does. I think taking more calls would make the show flow a lot smoother and make the endless commercial time less noticeable. I understand Andy took calls from like 8-9 am yesterday on the GMU story, and that's something he needs to do more of on the 5-7 pm show. I get the sense that Czabe would prefer to hear from the callers, but Andy eschews them.

Also, I'll admit that Andy needs to become a lot well-versed in other sports besides football. Remember when Lenny Shapiro wrote in the Post that Andy was the best radio talk show host in the area due to his breadth of sports knowledge? I had to spit out my coffee when I saw that one.

I don't think they talk about baseball enough. And I think they talk about the Redskins too much.

I like Czaban. And Pollin is okay when the guest knows what they are talking about, like Nocki on college ball or Loverro on baseball. He's a bit annoying the rest of the time. But, most sports talk hosts are annoying.

I will add the that as another poster mentioned, the real problem with WTEM is the lack of calls. Calls are what drive sports talk, not hosts.

I just purchased XM radio and SportsTalk 980 was a mjaor reason for my purchase. I needed other sports talk options as I typically tune to anything else when Polin and/or Czaban start to talk.

These guys behave as though they are still in high school with the sophmoric humor, childish banter and narrow perspective that fill their air time.

I enjoy John Thompson, he offers a perspective that often makes me think (and not just about sports, but life as well) and Doc Walker. I like that Kornheiser brings on guests from all over the country that are often credible and interesting, but his insistence on covering entertainment news more than sports makes me turn the channel as well.

I do not get angry over these guys that do not interest me, I just turn the channel(and now I have many more options with XM).

By the way, as a new subscriber, I highly recommend XM Radio.

I like the fact that the station takes calls. I don't like the fact that Pollin is the moderator. His smug, arrogant Lord of the Phones attitude ruins the experience for many callers from what I hear.

You can always ask the guy next to you to remove the gun from you head so you can stop listening.

I don't like Czabe and Pollin too much, but they are harmless. They talk a lot about what is current in sports in this area. That's what I'm interested in. Their show is pretty much a Skins show for 6 months out of the year which keeps me very happy.

Another issue I have with WTEM. Their second string hosts are so much better than the first-string guys.

God bless John Thompson, but the man doesn't know anything about any sport that it is not basketball. Doc can be annoying. Czaban is okay. Pollin and Kornheiser are on too much. And I don't listen to Mike and Mike because national sports shows annoy me.

But I would love to hear Scott Lynn, Scott Jackson, Bram Weinstein, and Mark Stern more often. Stern's Saturday baseball show is great. There is no reason he can't get an hour a day during baseball season instead of running Kornheiser back to back.

Once again:

BIG SPORTS FAN....ONE STATION IN TOWN...AND I DON'T LISTEN WHEN I DON'T HAVE TO (OR WHEN POLLIN SAYS SOMETHING STUPID...EVERDAY)!

Don't buy the Kornheiser line that says tune to another station! Ask Kornheiser what would happen if he tells MNF fans to turn the station if they don't like him. Pink slip.

WE DESERVE BETTER!!!!

With me, it's more his arrogance with callers after the Redskins games. It's as if because he's the host of a radio show he know's more. Like we are idiots and can't make a decent point. They all joke on Beatrice like he was a "Loser." When in actuallity Beatrice knew and still knows much more then they do -- and can be objective.

He's and Kornheiser are the classic non jocks, that got into media because it's the only way they could be in the sports world. They weren't popular in high school at all.

But, come back to High School reunion with chest all out! I like Czabe if for any reason you tend to believe his cynicism. Polin really does not have a sense of humor. However, he is a hard worker, I will give him that. It's almost as if he won't turn down any assignment as to make himself so indispensible. Geez, the guy works seven days a week. Of course, the brass likes that guy. Just ask Andy, he will work for ya!

My biggest concern is that he doesn't like to go the phone enough, and acts like the callers are idiots when they don't agree with him. It's like he and Jacoby can do know wrong. I do like Kiper though.

you just made me laugh outloud...... I hate when Tony interrupts the person doing the updates..... and you're right..... no fail, he does it every 20 minutes...... annoying as hell.

I know, it's so damn arrogant and rude. That guy really thinks he's something else. Also, what's with him always acting like he doesn't like sports and doesn't want to talk about them? WTF are you doing on 980 if that's the case? That guy just pisses me off.

Agreed...I would rather listen to Weinstein, Stern and Jackson (Bball season) for an hour each day rather than IP (Idiot Pollin) for 6 hours.
