This guy gets a bad rap. He is probably the most productive back in the last 5 years (who is still starting).

So what if he is mild-mannered and doesn't run over people? The guy is a workhorse' date=' TD-scoring machine. He makes his runs look effortless- but he finds open space and rips off chunks of 5 and 6 yards and ALWAYS breaks a run of 20 or more. He carried Seattle when they had no passing offense to speak of. It has become en vogue to question the dude's toughness....but how many games has he missed to injury? Hardly any in 5 years.[/quote']

I agree with all this.

Still, this thread is great!

First off - you shouldn't align yourself with Alvin Walton and then post something like this. Secondly, after his "little girl" hop and dance on the sidelines (b/c he had been knocked out of the game) during the Skins playoff game - he gets no pass. He may be productive but the boogers I pull from my 18 month old son are definitely tougher than SA.

Listen, I'm no Alexander apologist, but people are going overboard. The guy is obviously no bruiser- but he is VERY productive and he doesn't get hurt. Would he be better if he used his size more to his advantage? Yes. Do I prefer Portis' running style? Absolutely. But Alexander is a very good back. Seattle is crap without him and they kept us out of the Super Bowl WITHOUT him unfortunately. (Maybe I'm biased because I won a fantasy title with him a few years back!)

In my book he's no wuss. But he is not a "tough guy" either. The guy is a top 3 RB in the NFL. He can't, by definition, be soft.

I will not take your Alvin Walton comments to heart because I know that you were simply making an analogy......The fact that I chose him for my screen name shows just how much I admired how the guy played the game. He was Sean Taylor minus the pass-defense skills. I LOVED that guy!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Hasnt broken 100 yards against us, at least not that i can remember

Haha No he didn't. We held him in check all day early in the season and then he broke off one of his big runs at the end of the day....in a critical time. And then Josh Brown missed a field goal on that drive. Thank God. (the only big break for the Skins all season)

We all know what we did to him in Seattle!

Please don't! Alvin was one of my all time favorites. I just could never see him letting up on SA.

He didn't let up on ANYBODY. He was so nasty. I remember reading about how many pairs of shoulder pads and helmest that he broke during the course of his college/NFL career.

Sean Taylor comes close, but Walton used to light people up.

He would totally obliterate Alexander- especially since he is such a big target....

Man, I hope Taylor does not get thrown behind bars....I love watching him take people's heads off!

A bit off-topic, I know- but there are not enough headhunters out there anymore.....John Lynch, Sean Taylor, Bob Sanders.....real football players.

Ok- let the Alexander-bashing continue!

A little more off topic but seeing as how you love big hits...this ones for you MR. MOHAWK:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5464056137940452616&q=nfl

thought you might enjoy that as much as i did when i first saw it because someone put it on here elsewhere.

I think I just don't like him because he doesnt look tough, he has a stupid high pitched voice, and well he's always smiling like a little girl, and finally because he just doesnt have any team loyalty. BUT...he can probably bench more than me so technically he IS stronger...lol but I think i'd probably play through more injuries than he would.

NICE!

How nasty was Jack Tatum (#32 The Assassin)? I wish I could have seen him play for the Raiders in person....John Lynch, Steve A****er, Ronnie Lott, good stuff.

I've seen most of those- but they are still outstanding. I would suggest that you pick up a video form NFL Films called "NFL's Greatest Professionals"

There is a segment on Dick Butkus and he has several nasty hits on the tape. As a bonus there is a long segment on Redskin great Larry Brown as well.

I am inspired- I think I'm gonna dig up a Ronnie Lott highlight tape....he's the nastiest hitter I remember watching play (besides Alvin Walton, of course)

It might be funny to make fun of him- but in reality I seriously hope you people are kidding. The guy can ball. And he'll probably continue to produce for 5 more years since he has not been taking "the big hit"[/quote']

its okay its all in fun. i think everyone knows that if alexander wanted to he could tear anyone here to shreads.

While I believe that Portis belongs in the Pro Bowl and Sean Alexander should have dropped out, I think Alexander helped us by staying in.

Portis has been banged up all year, with those shoulders and wrist injuries. I think the worst thing that could have happened is for him to go into the game and take some big hits (and there were some pretty big hits) and have his stinger return.

What a "ME-FIRST" player. If i was his teammate i'd be disgusted, disappointed and pissed off at him. I mean he just made the super-bowl with this team and i understand he wants a new contract and i would be surprised to see them not offer him one of his liking but for him to say something like that is BS. Obviously he's no T.O. but he shows some similarity.

Wow.

You're so incredibly wrong.

If any star player has been more mistreated by his team over the past few years, please, let me know.

He was pulled from the final game of the 2004 season while still in competition for the rushing title which caused him to lose it by only a yard or two.

He has played top notch ball for the past two years, and Seattle has continued to allow his contract to slip away despite his outstanding performance.

There is video footage of Holmgren telling Alexander that he didn't want to put him into the game this year to get the TD title because he was afraid that he would get injured. After the beating Holmgren took from the Seattle fans for the contract and rushing title, he begrudgingly let him go for it.

He's never caused a single problem in the locker room, never complained for more touches or about his role on the team, and doesn't act the fool in front of the camera the way so many other big names have started to do over the past few years. He doesn't badmouth the coaches or the organization, despite being held back by them in certain instances. He is a model player, and doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as TO when discussing attitude.

Alexander deserves appropriate recognition for his actions. For you to say that he's a me-first player after all he's given to the Seahawks shows that you've not followed his career well enough to come to an educated conclusion about him.

"I never really thought up until I got out here that I could be on another team, but it was really neat to see me with Carolina guys and having fun like that," he said following the NFC's 23-17 victory over the AFC. "It was different, but it was definitely neat."

"Honestly, whatever happens, I'm going to be happy. I'm going to be satisfied," he said. "It is an exciting opportunity for me, having all these teams basically come at me and sign me. That's cool."
