Fun With Eli's Drunk Pic

Recommended Posts

Eli should be remembered as the guy that kept the Patriots from having 8 super bowls and the only 19-0 season in NFL history.  Was talking to Giants fan today about this, he doesnt think hes a HOFer, I said he was when it mattered most.

When people say Eli helped stagnate the Pats...You know who else helped stagnate the Pats?  Joe Flacco.  He defeated the Pats twice in the playoffs, and frankly should have done it a third time if Lee Evans doesn't drop a gimme TD in the closing seconds of the AFC title game (when Cundiff missed a chip shot to force the game into OT).

Flacco:  98-73, superbowl MVP (played great in that game), 218 Tds, 141 ints, 62% completion percentage.

Eli:  117-117, 2 superbowl MVPs, 366 tds, 244 ints, 60% completion %.

Oh, and Flacco played in a tougher conference and division (Steelers).

Is Flacco a HOF now because he helped "end" the Patriots dynasty?

Huh?  Flacco didnt end the Patriots dynasty and never beat a super bowl bound Patriots in the playoffs.  The Patriots didnt win every year, but what was on the way to being the best team ever Eli came out of nowhere and stop them in their tracks.  He has their number in the super bowl, that's different.

Eli deserves to get in. Maybe not first ballot but eventually.

Record doesn't mean much re: a QB. I come from a family of Giants fans so I tend to watch most of the games. There were plenty of games where Eli had the team in a position to win and the defense or special teams choked it away.

Also, Jerry Reese did a HORRIBLE job of drafting Offensive lineman once Accorsi's team moved on. Reese was obsessed with finding "raw talent" like he did with JPP. That experiment worked out. Others not so much.

He took chances that Kirk never takes.

That shows he does not care about stats.

Performed great on the biggest stage.

I’m positive he will get in.

Actually Flacco beat NE in NE in the playoffs a few times to prevent them from getting to the SB.

Not saying they overall point is wrong but facts are facts.

But he never beat a super bowl patriot team in the playoffs, otherwise they wouldn't of gotten to the super bowl that particular year, that's my point, that's a fact. Eli did, twice.

It's kind of ironic, Manning and Flacco have the same QB rating...

Neither are HOF QBs

Both are really good QBs. Or at least had a few really good seasons and playoffs in their prime.

To me, a HOFer is obvious. Like the Supreme Court definition of pornography, “you know it when you see it.”

Eli and Flacco are not that.

To me, since Peyton and Brady came into the league, there are 6HOF QBs: Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rothlisburger, Rodgers. Favre was still playing, so I don’t count him in the list because he already had the creds by then.

The toughest decision is Warner:  in a lot of ways he was a comet.  if you want to put him in, I wouldn’t quibble.

I don’t want to hear about Eli, Flacco or Rivers.  Or Ryan, or anybody else.

Of the younger guys, Wilson absolutely would be one if his career continues the same trajectory.  Maholmes has all the talent in the world but is in year 2, so I’m not handing him a yellow jacket just yet.  Lamar, same thing.

Eli isn’t a HOF QB.  He had a HOF worthy playoff stretches.

How could he beat a SB patriot team in the playoffs since they were in the same conference?  If the Ravens don’t beat the Patriots, they go to the SB.

This makes no sense to me.

I dont find the NFL HOF as strict as baseball or as open ended as basketball.  I agree with a lot of what your saying, but wont be shocked if he gets in or argue against it.  Let's face, him being a Manning will be the final peice to this puzzle that overrides this arguement, but he does have more rings then Rodgers and Brees.  And they werent gifted to him, he had game winning drives in both his super bowl wins.

This makes no sense to me.

Patriots have been to the super bowl 8 times in 18 years, that's supposed to be impossible this day in age, yet here we are.  That means in 18 years they proved they were at minimum the best team in the AFC and beat every team in their way in january to prove it 8 different times.

Ravens also lost to the Patriots twice in the playoffs during this time span, both of those Patriot teams went to the Super Bowl, splitting.  One of those loses was to Eli, Eli has never lost to a super bowl version of the Patriots, this is not the same as say the limping Patriots team the Titans knocked out this year.

The Ravens never beat the best version of the Patriots in the playoffs.  Both times the Ravens beat them in the postseason, the Patriots werent even the best team in the AFC let alone football.  The two Patriot teams Eli beat, one was not only had the best record in the AFC, the other was the only 18-0 in history.

That 18-0 team beat the Ravens that year in the regular season, they were jus another victim until Eli and the Giants pulled off one of the most improbable upsets in NFL history, an undefeated team versus a 10-6 team they already beat? Credit where credit is due.

Yeah, the defensive line that harrassed and beat Brady and David Tyree's helmet. Eli's numbers weren't other-worldly, they were just good. They just couldn't give the MVP to a unit.

The same defense that gave up the late TD to Moss?  Eli's numbers would have been better had Steve Smith not had a ball go right off his chest for an INT at the Pats 5 yd line too.  But Super Bowl aside, Manning went into Dallas and beat the Cowboys. He went to Green Bay and in the coldest game on record beat the Pats.

Then again in '11 and '12, beat Rodgers in GB, before having a legendary 'chip game against SF.

To keep touting the "defense won the SB" or the "his name will get him in" line shows pure football ignorance. It's something to make butt hurt fans feel better.  The man played with class on and off the field and has the resume to boot.  Yeah he's on a rival team but give the man his due.

Definitely, he won 2 super bowls so he's a lock IMO.  Only qb is Jim plunkett that is not in the hall having won multiple super bowls.

Archie, is that you?! You act like Manning threw for 4 TDs against the Pats. His 1st one against the Pats was made Alex Smith proud. His second, he was better, but a sub-300 yrd 1-TD performance isn't going to get you far if your defense doesn't stuff the Pats. Which they did. Eli played game manager.

2-3 games should not define an entire career--Joe Namath should not be in the Hall either, nor Aikman, in my opinion. It's the Hall of FAME not the Hall of VERY GOOD. It's for the Greats. Eli was very good, not great. There were at least 10 contemporary QBs better. He was only a 4 time probowler, 0 All pros. 0 MVPs. The only thing he ever lead the league in was interceptions. He's not a Hall of Famer.

Eli defenders are so touchy--he's a good, to very good QB, however, if you don't scream his greatness you might as well say he's hot garbage.

@Riggo#44 you are overthinking this and a hater : )

this isnt the Riggo#44 Hall of Fame, its the NFL Hall of Fame, with a different set of requirements then you, the basketball, or baseball HOF.  Based on the criteria and threshold for NFL HOF, Eli is going in whether folks like it or not.

if you seriously want to say Naimath and Aikmen shouldnt be in regardless of the context of why they are in there, you should jus let this go, you are compromised.  For me, If a jackasss like TO and halfasses like Randy Moss are in the HOF, Eli should be in jus to counter that BS.

let's jus agree the NFL HOF is a joke, same with the Pro Bowl, and move this thread to ATN.  I dont want to spend anymore time defending Eli then i think folks should take time belittling him, this is bonkers, what are we doing here?

Aikman was smart to call it quits when he did. Extending his career would have likely cooled his chances to get in as he and his teams were noticeably declining.

His numbers are so mediocre. And, he did decide to call it quits, he was ended, before Lavar became a fat, entitled head case.

Agree. This thread is for burying Eli, not to praise him...and it should be the Riggo#44 HOF. I'm clearly smarter, more rational, better-looking, and way humbler...

good question, other than qualifying for a temp ban, and yet on you went with the others here who know better

btw, i think the next time i see someone mention how some mod action---like moving a thread--out to be done but doesn't give the "@" notice to a mod i'll give them a temp ban...so dumb yet common...i remember when the forum used to be so helpful in reporting rule issues (which almost always just results in warnings unless they're really egregious or repetitive) and it was routinely celebrated and  the whole staff appreciated, commended, and used it regularly to better help keep things in their lane...now it's virtually non-existent

atn doesn't appear with all the other forums on the mod options for a move but since eli is out of football now and he's not a former redskin or connected to the org in soem way i'm just closing it down
