Over here in Oz, we use the metric system, and therefore have litres as opposed to gallons.

Roughly, 1 gallon = 4 litres (convert gallon to litre - multiply by 4.5), and as we are paying $1.20 per LITRE, that roughs out to approx $4.80 per GALLON.

However, AU$1.00 is approx US$0.76.

$1.20 per litre? You need to find yourself some new stations. Heck, even the Shell in St Kilda charges $1.18 or less.

Sorry about those Dockers, by the way. There's always room on the Doggies' bandwagon. :)

I'd like to see more drilling, more refineries, and fewer gasoline formulas.

All that mindlessness about going to war for oil -- you'd think if we did that, we'd be getting cheaper oil. Well, perhaps it's time we made it about oil. Any thoughts?

(edit) Oh yes, in San Angelo TX I'm paying about $2.40 for premium, and about the same for diesel.

I predict this will cause war without doubt....

and if it becomes $5 a gallon the people here will almost demand it.............. IMO

Why? I'd like an suv but didn't want to pay for the gas. It's not like those who own a suv is unaware of the fuel costs associated with ownership.

That being said, this is not going to change. You can drill Alaska all you want, you will see little relief. We can't even import more cause we don't have the refineries.

I don't. What did these people expect?

Also, I'm so glad we gave the oil companies tax breaks in the latest energy bill. They really needed it. Along with the fact that it will do nothing to decrease prices or increase CAFE standards.

You can place wagers on if gas will top $3 by the end of the year.

Not all people that have large vehicles have them to impress. Some folks actually need them. Try a family of 7 or 8 for instance. What about people who make their living with their vehicles. I guess they can pull equipment trailers with a KIA.

Fact is, a large portion of the population need trucks or SUV's for the right reasons. These are the people I feel sorry for, not the bozo kids who "pimp out" their Expoditions...................

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/09/automobiles/09mini.html

LIUZHOU, China - In this obscure corner of southern China, General Motors seems to have hit on a hot new formula: $5,000 minivans that get 43 miles to the gallon in city driving. That combination of advantages has captivated Chinese buyers, propelling G.M. into the leading spot in this nascent car market.

Compact and utilitarian, these vehicles, called Wuling Sunshine minivans, hardly fit the big-is-better image of G.M., known in the United States for producing some of the largest gas guzzlers on the market, like Hummers.

The minivans, which G.M. builds in a joint venture with a Chinese partner, have a quarter the horsepower of American minivans, weak acceleration and a top speed of 81 miles an hour. The seats are only a third the thickness of seats in Western models but look plush compared with some Chinese cars.

Boys, I bought me a '98 Suzuki Swift (Chevy Metro twin) and I'm getting 48 MPG. It helps, but the rising prices are still scary. $2.59 is the local cheapy price. You guys need to check out http://www.gasbuddy.com or http://www.insert the name of your state heregasprices.com. You can help others in your area find the cheapest gas.

EDIT>>How much is gas in Iraq?

Well, in the People's Republic of California, gas is as high as - gulp - $4.09/gallon!! In the DC area it's on a steady clmb to $3/gallon. So, with all of these state budget surplus' (thanks in part to Bushenomics), why not - atleast temporarily - offer taxpayers a reprieve from out of control gasoline taxes and surcharges? Case in point, the People's Republic of Maryland with a $1B surplus. Instead of refunding to exploited and abused taxpayers, the Left in MD will probably seek to waste this surplus on worthless socialist enterprises. Fraud, Waste, and Abuse!!

Back in the days when HillStreet Blues was on Tv Gas prices were woefully high.

ABC Radio reported that if you used todays dollars (inflation adjusted) to compare the gas woes of 1980-1981 gas would have to be over 3 dollars a gallon and over 90 dollars a barrel.
