  1. Trump fan who assaulted officers with a hockey stick on Jan. 6 is sentenced to prison WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump enthusiast who believed the former president's lies about the 2020 election was sentenced Wednesday to more than three years in federal prison for assaulting law enforcement officers with a hockey stick during the brutal battle at the lower west tunnel of the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack. Michael Joseph Foy was arrested in January 2021 and was initially held in pretrial detention. He was found guilty of felony charges in June. Federal prosecutors sought more than eight years in federal prison, saying Foy assaulted officers with a hockey stick and a sharpened metal pole after he traveled to Washington with a "TRUMP 2020" flag. But U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan — who is overseeing Trump's delayed federal trial on charges he tried to overturn his 2020 election loss by conspiring to obstruct Congress and disenfranchise American voters — said Wednesday that the Justice Department's request was "unreasonable" and that it didn't factor in Foy's military service and other factors in his life in the lead-up to Jan. 6. Chutkan ultimately landed on a sentence of 40 months, meaning Foy will end up serving an additional two years and a few months in federal prison. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-fan-assaulted-officers-hockey-221621341.html
  2. I didn't know that about Rutledge. That's good. He got hit a bit in the 2nd but had much better control. Hassell looks so confident at the plate. He also made a nice grab in CF. Yeah, I saw the Wood hit live. I didn't realize he had that kind of speed - I think they said 4.07 to 1st & is the fastest on the team. Crews with another SB yesterday. Impressed by all of the pitching yesterday - Herz was a mixed bag of good and bad pitching. He, too, may have been working on a new pitch. They said the catchers will be spending more time on 1 knee this season even with runners on base. I think it helps them frame pitches better & gives the umps a better view. I noticed the Sox doing the same with their catchers.
  3. Finnegan looked like he was in midseason form. Crews with a bad K with the bases loaded & 1 out. IF single his next AB. Gallo had a nice 2B to score a couple. Didn't realize how big Gallo is.
  4. I bought English muffins last week. I can't believe how small they are now. I piece of fake sausage almost covered the entire muffin! I won't be buying them anymore...
  5. Yay...Nats on MASN at 1:05pm in RVA today. Rutledge off to a bad start. Walked the bases loaded & 26 pitches. Ground out to end the inning - 27 pitches 1 K 3BB
  6. A woman lost her $823,000 injury claim after lawyers found a photo of her winning a Christmas-tree-throwing competition A woman in Ireland who sued an insurance company for $823,000 had her injury claim tossed out after the court saw a photo of her taking part in a Christmas-tree-throwing competition. Kamila Grabska, 36, sued RSA Insurance over what she said were back and neck pains from a car crash in 2017, the Irish Independent reported. The accident rendered her unable to work for more than five years, she said. https://www.businessinsider.com/woman-loses-823000-injury-claim-christmas-tree-throwing-photo-2024-2?amp
  7. Noticed in the box score yesterday Ruiz had 2 Es - both for catcher interference. The new mechanics obviously include pushing him forward in the box. Those milliseconds should improve his throw time to 2nd. He just needs to figure out how close he can get & still stay away from the swing.
  8. Did Robles play winter ball? If so, how did he do? I suspect his back will never be the same which means his defense will never be as good as it was.
  9. Getting closer in VA... 'Team effort' compromise bill on marijuana sales moves forward in Virginia: 'It's been a hard road' RICHMOND, Va. -- Advocates are celebrating a compromise bill that would create a retail market for marijuana sales in Virginia. "This was a truly team effort from every aspect of our Commonwealth," Sen. Aaron Rouse (D — Virginia Beach) said Friday. Before now competing proposals had been moving through the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates. The bill would allow the licensing process for recreational sales of the drug to begin in September with retail sales starting May 1, 2025. ... Additionally, the bill still needs to clear both full chambers before making it to Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin's desk. When asked about his plans if a bill reached his desk, a spokesperson for Youngkin pointed to comments the governor made at the start of session that retail marijuana sales are not an area he is interested in pressing forward on. https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/compromise-bill-retail-marijuana-sales-virginia-progresses-feb-23-2023
