BBC: China pneumonia outbreak: COVID-19 Global Pandemic
EmirOfShmo replied to China's topic in The Tailgate
Well, I guess Facebook needs to get a TV channel. Did the branches talk to the "media"? What is the media supposed to report? The leadership of the country needs to have a single voice on this to tell us WTF is going on. We don't have that. We have a White House Occupant selling snake oil & his sidekick licking his balls. So it's on them, not the media. -

I believe you can blame this on White House Occupant who spends more time telling us about his greatness in handling this & how he has 'everything under control'. Maybe if he had a sidekick who spent less time blowing the White House Occupant & more time giving us facts we would know more. Sorry, this isn't directed at you but, FFS the overall lack of leadership has been horrific. -
The interest rate cut last week actually caused mortgage rates to increase. Rates I was looking at for 10 year mortgage went from 3.125% to 3.375%. So, yeah, this is about helping businesses not the consumers. I'm a retired and do some sole-propiertor work part-time. I have 0.00 jobs on my schedule for the next 6 days. Tentative job on Friday & no firm scheduled work the week of 3/23. I usually have 12-15 hours of work per week. How is the White House Occupant going to help me? I'm looking at least 2 weeks of lost income and possibly more. I'm getting crankier by the hour...

Really easy. I didn't make the Russian dressing suggested. We're more of a mustard fan for Reuben's but I will make their sauce for a Reuben sandwich later this week (the reviews were great so I gotta try it). I made 4 egg rolls & just kind of eyeballed the quantities. Cooked at 20 minutes - was perfect. We have a Tom Leondard's here in Richmond that sells all Boar's Head products sliced to your preference for $7.99/lb. Have to buy a LB. We do that & use the meat & cheese for various meals. Saw this recipe & figured it was a keeper for the next couple of weeks. https://www.curiouscuisiniere.com/irish-egg-rolls/

Interesting info about the Utah Jazz players testing. I can't believe OK only has the capacity to test 100 people per day! https://www.yahoo.com/sports/the-state-of-oklahoma-used-over-half-its-daily-supply-of-covid-19-tests-on-the-utah-jazz-organization-164110976.html -
Fios has free HBO & Cinemax this weekend so we'll take advantage of that. Currently watching Idiocracy. I've never seen the uncut version. Awesome.

To all of you who have children and have to stay home with them for xx number of days: treasure the time. Yeah, it can suck but treasure any time you can spend with them. A year from now when you're sitting at your desk staring blindly into the stupid email du jour take a moment to remember the times. You'll be old before you know it. Enjoy the days... Edit: And one more thing: This too shall pass. -

Decided to go to the grocery stores today around 11:30am today. Trader Joe's: Workers remarked it was like "Thanksgiving week shopping" today. Publix: Lots of people, mostly 60+, with overflowing carts. Walmart: No multi-vitamins, vitamin C, hand wipes, soap (all soaps - shelves were empty) or toilet paper. Kroger: it was very much like 'Thanksgiving week'; again, a lot of people 60+ with full carts; a lot of the meat selections were completely gone; no TP or handwipes. Lines to checkout at each store were 5+ deep. I guess the other observation was the slightly strained look on most peoples faces. A lot of unusual over-friendliness with forced smiles when carts bumped in the crowded aisles. Henrico County public schools here in RVA just announced they are shutting down for 2 weeks effective Monday, March 16th. Found my elderberry gummies at Publix for $10 so I bought the last 2 bottles. It better not take that ****ing long. -

I started taking Elderberry a couple of days before we left for Aruba in mid-February. I started feeling sick - flu-ish - 2 weekends back. I pumped up the tablets & took Coricidin HBP (over 60yo & take blood pressure med). After 3 days I was fine - never really felt too bad during those 3 days, either. So, now I'm about done with my 30 day supply of Elderberry I bought on Amazon on February 9th for $14.99. Guess how much it is today ---- $39.99. **** anybody who is gouging people during this crisis. Just **** you. -

The double every 6 days I saw used March 7 when the US had 500 cases. So 1,000 would be Friday March 13th. We hit 1,000 cases today, 2 days early. -

^^re: Immigration Courts: This administration is wasting time planning on how to **** on people seeking asylum instead of using that time to plan constructive actions for the Covid-19. FFS And this mishmash of comments on how to provide financial relief: How about setting up a task force of knowledgeable financial experts to come up with some options that might work. The White House Occupant is a ****ing expert on everything. This is not going to end well financially for this country. -

If you're 45+yo & haven't had the pleasure of a colonoscopy you're taking an unnecessary risk. After the 1st one, they will decide on the frequency - typically 5-10 years. Stupid easy to make sure you don't have cancer.

Help! Defaulted Student Loans (and other debt fun)
EmirOfShmo replied to Rdskn4Lyf21's topic in The Tailgate
I've been watching rates at https://www.capcenter.com/ for the past 2-3 weeks. They haven't moved since the rate cut the other day. They charge a bit more but have $0.00 closing costs. I think they're typically ~.125 points higher. What rates are you seeing for 10/15/20/30 year mtg?- 465 replies

My son & I just had the most incredible 9 course meal cooked by Peter Chang at his restaurant in Scotts Addition in RVA (near the Redskins training camp). Wine was provided by Williamsburg Winery as part of the Virginia Wine Festival. Already have it marked on my calendar for next year. -

^^ "At start of Trump event at NIH, infectious diseases expert Dr Fauci explaining to Trump how long it took to develop vaccines for past viruses versus where we are now with Coronavirus." I used to tell clients who insisted system enhancements could be done quicker by adding more bodies to the project: You can't have a baby in 1 month by getting 9 women pregnant. Apparently, the same message needs to be beaten into the White House Occupant's head. -
