I was just having this conversation with a few friends of mine that were also unfortunate enough to choose this team when they were younger. The #1 sign of an awful team, aside from being owned by Dan Snyder, is the fanbase constantly clamoring for the backup QB. General amnesia when it came to all the bad we’d seen from the backup in the past coupled with very generous descriptions of what positives he offered. I don’t even think some folks realize they are doing it, but the descriptions for why the backup is the better option, are very generous to say the least. To the extent if they were really as good as described, they would be starting somewhere.

I don’t expect any action until the MJW report.

Eh, the #’s had to even out there considering how often Bruce went shopping in the bargain bin for players with injury histories.

New OC Thread (Welcome Aboard Eric Bieniemy!)
BatteredFanSyndrome replied to samy316's topic in The Stadium
The more I read, the more concerned I get at the thought of Scott Turner being handed a 1st round rookie to mold. -
If you have to run a ‘vanilla’ offense with a veteran QB, that’s an OC problem, not a QB problem. Carson may have lost his mobility, but he’s never been dumb. Fitzpatrick is a Harvard guy and he looked rather shaky in this offense in limited time as well. Combine this with the talk that there is little room if any at all for the QB to adjust the playcall at the LOS, and it’s easy to see why this is a slow, plodding, and generally ineffective offense.

Broken #1QB. Now who should start?

I’ve read a little bit about his time thus far in Charlotte and he’s not making any friends. One of the top requirements for being a successful hedge fund manager is being a POS, so I can see why.

No doubt it hasn’t been good for Tepper, but they already appear to be trying an actual rebuild. Something Snyder hasn’t allowed in 23 years.

BatteredFanSyndrome replied to SlobberknockerSkinsFan's topic in The Stadium
That would be the opposite of us. A sneaky little streak beating bad to okay teams, dropping further back in draft order, only to revert back to reality soon thereafter…that would be us. -
We can only go by what he says on the radio. Many other guys with similar roles, radio and TV, have no issue backing the bus over Snyder.

It’s Snyderitis. The same folks will be going on and on about how all the coaches are trash, roster is trash, need to blow everything up, etc. Yet still be trying to envision winning games with TH and doing playoff math. It’s bizarre, but that’s what Snyder has given us for 23 years. -

Yeah, if TH’s only problem is he can’t throw it 60 yards on a rope - we’d be in business. -
Analyst? That’s a loaded term for what he does. I’ve never heard him so much as break down a play in all of his years on TV and radio. BMitch “analyzing”: ”Here’s the thing about it…you gotta coach and practice like you PLAY!!! Coach Gibbs would have never. Andy, uh Andy, nobodies getting away with that with Andy. It’s next man up! You gotta have them ready to play the game! Everybody wanna talk about the owner doing. What the coach doing? Nothing, or whatever it is it ain’t good enough”

Not sure what Wentz play has to do with anything I’ve said. Wentz being bad doesn’t make Heineke good, or even better. Im all in on a disaster season, so playing Heineke or whomever doesn’t bother me a bit. My only point is that if Heineke was as skilled as he’s made out to be by some of our posters, he’d actually be considered a pretty damn good player, lack of arm strength or not. They say he’s not a franchise QB but then describe pretty much a franchise QB. -

Yeah, @Jumbo and the rest of us are just making it all up. -

That’s the neat part about it all. The Hive generally puts out a disclaimer that they know he’s not a god send, and most likely only the best backup QB in the world. But then they go on and on describing his play as anything but pedestrian. Touting that he’s super mobile, doesn’t take sacks, great at reading defenses, and the list goes on. If he was really that great at all that stuff, he’d be pretty close to a god send for this team. This is just classic backupitis when the offense can’t get anything going with the starter, guys start convincing themselves the backup is the answer. -
His anger sells when the team is doing bad, which is the usual. So I do get the appeal when he’s going off the rails. But he defends Dan on the reg and provides no analytical basis for his opinions on why everything is the coaches fault, regime to regime.

They’ve been jamming guys at the LOS and stacking the box against Wentz and it’s worked - why would they stop doing that now for a guy who poses zero threat to hit the deep ball, or even intermediate routes near the sidelines? This is why I’ve never bought into the idea of adding weapons for TH, it’s just a waste of resources. The way you tell it, we should expect immediate and dramatic improvement when Heineke starts on Sunday. -

All of this. The middle of the Oline escorting defenders directly into him isn’t going to help the lack of arm/accuracy either. When TH has clean feet, and can give it everything he has - he can put a little mustard on it. That’s just not something this OL gives a QB very often. -

I’d have to go back and look at those games to determine that. My guess is the unknown factor played a role and teams weren’t loading up the box like they did late in the season. As the season went on, particularly after the first Dallas game, every teams defensive game plan was to bring the entire defense closer to the LOS, jam the receivers after the snap and attack. It worked like a charm and Heineke/Turner had no answers. I’m not sure if you recall but Heine was gushing on and on about the Cowboys defense like they were the 85 Bears, but all they really did is what I described above. I have zero confidence that Turner can draw anything up to counter that.
