  1. Oh ****! And right here in PA. Also, we're technically in the 116th Congress now so we'll need a new thread altogether.
  2. As happy as I am the Eagles are out of the playoffs, I can't help but wonder: have the Eagles become the anti-'Skins over the past 20 years? -Jeff Lurie seems to be one of the most respected and least problematic owners in the league -Since he bought the team in 1994, The team's successfully rebuilt not once but twice (once after the disastrous Ray Rhodes era and again after "The Chip Kelly Experience" imploded) -That's translated into nearly 20 years of sustained success in which they've only finished under .500 three times and have gone to two Super Bowls (winning one) -From what I can tell, they actively and successfully engage their fanbase and make their gameday experience an good one - even encouraging them to take the Broad Street Line to the Linc (I can't tell you how many times I saw their mascot on SEPTA's Instagram page) The 'Skins, on the other hand, have done the complete opposite over the past 25 years. I can't bring myself to ever cheer for a Philadelphia based team but as an organization, it's hard not to respect what the Eagles have been able to do over that span and it's really frustrating my hometown team cannot manage to take a step without finding new and exciting ways to alienate their fans and their community.
  3. Anyone else gonna watch the Alliance of American Football following Super Bowl Sunday? I think I may find a place to sit down and give it a watch. Shame there aren't any teams in the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast but I like the league's, apparent, commitment to player safety and I love the idea of no TV time outs (the NFL's bloated run-times are ghastly and one of the reasons I've been watching less of it).
  4. From Reddit's NFL subreddit "Cool Brees Enough to Shrivel Nicks Big Dick"
  5. Harry Kalas' voice, the lights at RFK Stadium, the tight spiral caught perfectly by the NFL Films crew - what a great video.
  6. I did just want to pop my head in and say "congrats and (sorta) farewell" to Chelsea Janes who will not be covering the team this year and will, instead, be covering the madness that will be the 2020 Election. I know she will do an excellent job on the political desk, just as she did on the Nationals' beat.
  7. But for real - despite renouncing my fandom, I still like coming here because I still follow the team and all my friends are dorks (like the kind who will call it "sportsball") so I gotta talk about this somewhere.
  8. I went to the game on New Year's Eve. Despite the loss and the wretched weather, it was still worth every dime I put down for it.
  9. Possibly - especially since the story about the team's first coach being native is most likely bunk.
  10. So, the Rams are the most fun team to watch this year, right? When they're on offense, I stop whatever I'm doing to watch what's going to happen next. Todd Gurley is a wrecking machine.
  11. Pretty much the norm these days - though it's strange how often that happens while tax payers are still left with a healthy chunk of the bill.
  12. So I was in PG County for a funeral today - less than 10 miles away from FedEx Field. Since it was on the way back to PA, I thought I'd swing by and just take a look at the stadium as I haven't been there in 16 years. I was so excited about going to that 'Skins game as a boy and I didn't really take time to take the stadium in ('Skins won that game, by the way - 20-17 over the Rams). So I came in by way of Landover Road and came up to the lots and as soon as the stadium came into view, something struck me about it: unless you looked very closely, you'd never know the 'Skins played there. The facade is very colorful - there's no doubt it's FedEx Field as the arrangement of purples, oranges, and greens testify but until you drive around to the other side of the stadium, you really have to look for anything having to do with the team that plays there every autumn. Now I know RFK wasn't painted purple and gold when the 'Skins played there but it was concrete, multi-purpose facility where a baseball and football team played. FedEx Field is (apart from the odd soccer game or concert) the home of the Washington Redskins. You go to M&T Bank Stadium and there's no doubt who plays there 8+ times a year.

  15. Thank you so much for bumping this. I love this thread so much.
  16. So, uh...Birds are looking great against the Bucs so far, eh?
  17. I still prefer keeping my own score when I go bowling. Maybe it's because I learned how to bowl at duckpin bowling alleys that still used hand scoring but if you know what you're doing, it can be more reliable than computers and easier to fix mistakes. It's one of the reasons I always, always, always try to go visit White Oak Bowling Alley when I visit MoCo. It's a small thing but it adds to the experience. (Plus all the other duckpin alleys in MoCo closed so it's my only destination)
  18. Couldn't be happier for the Mystics. They were charter members of the WNBA and while basketball, as a whole, doesn't really do much for me, they represent my hometown and haven't done anything to overtly disgrace it. They were also very accommodating to the Capitals and the team's fans for letting them come to one of their games free of charge since it was ahead of the 5th Stanley Cup Final game. It's Seattle and Washington for the championship, just like it was 40 years ago. Let's go Mystics! (Also, CapOne Center is under renovation right now)
  19. (Sidebar: @BRAVEONAWARPATH - every time you come up in my notifications I get a smile because Dr. Angela Davis always pops up, too. Marvelous woman - excellent speaker. Need to see about reading more of her books).
  20. So, hey! Women's soccer team's 2-1-1 and the the Field Hockey team's perfect after 3 matches. That's...that's pretty neat, right?

  22. Oh my God: who is their audience?! Who is listening to that and, without a trace of irony, thinking "this is insightful and thought provoking analysis on sports! This was a great use of my time."If you're going to have a talk show about any subject, you can't just fall back on the same cliches over and over again. But then again, some of these programs go on for 3-4 hours and even a wretched motor mouth like myself cannot possibly talk coherently for that long. I used to be a disc jockey at a public radio station and by the final hour of my 9-12 slot, I was completely cooked (and mind you, I was a classical music disc jockey - I once played the entire Beethoven 5th Symphony and it damn near took up the whole hour). I have no idea how you could possibly do a talk show that was almost exclusively on a single topic, like sports.
