  1. I've seen some bad takes in my day. This one's pretty far up the list. Woof.
  2. Really hoping for this. The 'Skins were my first team but baseball was my first love as far as spots is concerned. I waited, waited, and waited some more for baseball to return to D.C. Even after I moved to North Carolina, in the Braves market (a team I had followed as a kid), I still held out hope we'd get baseball back. Now we've got a team and while the connection has been broken by two team owners in Calvin Griffith and Bob Short, there's still folks like my dad who are keenly aware that this city hasn't had a World Series winner since 1924 and I really hope the both of us (especially him) can see that drought end. He watched so much bad baseball as a boy only to see them leave town as a college student and not have anything fill the void for 30+ years. Hopefully, Washington will be home to a World Series champion. If nothing else, he sure as hell deserves it. All that said: I'm so glad I could be downtown last night for the Caps Watch Party. I know long time Caps fans - the ones who are real hockey folks and have been following the team through thick and thin - must feel an incredible sense of vindication and relief. I know I did as a general, D.C. sports fan so I can only imagine how they must feel after seeing what they've seen: those very lean early years, the Easter Epic, the '98 Finals, and all those "close but no cigar" teams with The Great 8. I know the Caps got lost in the sports shuffle but had a rabid and devoted following. I didn't grow up in a hockey family (I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in my family that knows the difference between a hockey puck and a hole in the wall) and didn't really start following hockey at all until after the 2010 Olympics. Still not a hardcore fan but last night was one of the best nights of my life - especially seeing the outpouring of joy from those long time fans and some of the old time Caps who know what it's like to come close but come up short.
  3. I remember when /pol/ got started. It was meant to be a containment area for people who were 2edgy4u - even by the website's standards. No one liked them, no one took them seriously, and "go back to /pol/" was a common response to anyone whose racism was too overt and earnest (once again, even by 4chan standards). Now? They're helping elect Presidents and are getting featured by major news outlets. This truly is the darkest timeline.
  4. If I had a nickle for every "well, I guess I'm boycotting the NFL this year because MUH FLAG" I'd be in good shape right now.
  5. Yeah I read this yesterday. When I consider: -My very strained feelings toward 'Skins -The Philadelphia Eagles' steady leadership -Their relatively consistent success over the past (nearly) 20 years -Beating the MAGA-tastic NE Patriots in the Super Bowl (though seeing Darrell Green give them the Lombardi Trophy made me die a little inside) -And now this - It is getting really hard to hate them as an organization. I mean, I am pretty much obligated to have at least a strong distaste for every team along the I-95 corridor north of Washington - but the respect points just keep piling up for them and I don't know what to do with these feelings.
  6. JR Smith: I thought we were ahead, I swear, I th- Lebron:
  7. These JR Smith memes justify Twitter's existence.
  8. Okay - last JR Post, I promise. I just...the audacity. https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2018/06/jr_smith_on_game_1_blunder_i_k.html Lying through his ****ing teeth
  9. Waking up this morning - this game still blows my mind. Golden State comes in as 12.5 point favorites but were trailing late in the 4th quarter. Lebron has an 8-8-51 line, Chris Love has a double-double, and they send it to OT. And yet, the Warriors almost covered the spread in the end. What a weird friggin' game.
  10. I cannot wait to watch the highlights. Just following Twitter and this thread were bananas - I can't wait to actually see it because holy **** - J.R. Smith...
  11. But they almost did though! What the **** is this?!
  12. Just checking in on the game - surprised its as close as it is. Will be impressive if the Cavs can prevent the Warriors from covering the spread.
  13. Not 'Skins related but wanted to pose this anyway: I kinda wonder if the Colts would've won Super Bowl III if the Raiders made the game. The Jets had a good season but winning that AFL Championship was a pretty big upset in it of itself. Oakland was already Super Bowl tested from the year before and posted a League best 12-2 record, had a great defense, and Lamonica had a career season - plus they beat the hell out of New York earlier that season. Maybe the Colts take the Raiders a little more seriously than they took the Jets and rise to the occasion?
  14. Coming up on one year since I moved back up north. Gonna be a busy summer but I'm hoping to spend some more time in the D.C. area - still feel like I need to make up for lost time. If I can be good and save my money, I think I'd like to go to the Kennedy Center to see this Audra McDonald concert. I only got to visit the Kennedy Center once - on a 3rd (?) grade field trip. It was a nice trip but I didn't really appreciate it. I'm long past due for a visit as an adult (and it's Metro accessible, which is always nice). http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/event/NSPPG
  15. Co-worker of mine was at James Beard supporting her brother! Unfortunately, he didn't win but a buddy of his did. Glad to hear we got a winning chef in the District. - - - Though this clip was before my time, it's from a staple of my Saturday mornings. My sister and I would watch "It's Academic" every Saturday morning after the cartoon blocks ended. If her schedule weren't already filled to the brim, she probably would have tried out for (and been on) Edison H.S.'s team.
  16. Paul Ryan gettin' that big L and I'm having a giggle.
  17. I did not know HTS' reach went down to North Carolina.
