  1. The “respect” Ron appears to have gathered for the organization seems to have infatuated Danny (since he has so little). I think Ron will be around for several more years regardless of the performance on the field. If we draft a rookie QB to start sometime next year Ron will get at least 3 years to develop the new QB. If we sign a journeyman QB I believe his leash will be a bit shorter, but will still get several years to make it work. For what it’s worth, Ron inherited Haskins, made a reasonable offer for Stafford and was basically pushed into taking a risk with Fitzpatrick. It would have been interesting to see how last year would have evolved with Fitz driving the show, but it certainly wasn’t Ron’s fault he got hurt. The next one is on Ron. If he picks well he’s here for a decade. If he picks wrong he still lasts another 3 years.
  2. After a thorough review of options I have reached the following conclusions. 1. Aaron Rodgers is not leaving Green Bay 2. Derek Carr is not leaving Vegas 3. Russell Wilson is not leaving Seattle. 4. Deshawn Watson will not be traded. 5. Jimmy G will be available, SF will ask for a 1st, but will probably settle for a 2nd and 4th. Jimmy might get us 8 wins next year and push us back to a later first round pick and we still won’t get a franchise QB. I sincerely hope this is not the big swing Ron is talking about. 6. Guys like Teddy, Marcus and Mitch will be available, but none of these guys get you where you want to go. The Washington Commanders near term future will depend on a rookie QB selected with the 11 th pick. Pick the right guy and we start up a good path of growth and development, choose wrong and we remain in purgatory searching for our next franchise QB. I think Willis and Corral have the highest ceilings. Both have strong arms and mobility. I lean towards Corral based on decision making, but if they like Willis better I understand. I think Pickett and Howell are the more conservative picks; started more games in college. Howell does throw a very good deep ball and Pickett is a good decision maker. Under perfect circumstances both might be successful, I just don’t think Washington provides that perfect opportunity.I’m not a QB guru and I don’t have a crystal ball to tell you what’s going to happen. At 11 I take Willis/Corral if they are there. If not I take the best .ILB or CB on the board. Maybe take a flyer on Strong or Zappa in the subsequent rounds.
  3. Commanders means different things to different people. (1). It an officer rank in the US Navy (O-5) (2). It’s a designated position of authority I.e Wing Commander, Group Commander, Squadron Commanders, etc. I’ve read above the Commanders don’t fight, they stay in the rear and plan and control. While there is certainly a command staff with that responsibility, at least in the USAF our commanders lead our troops into battle. Having been a Sq and Gp Commander it certainly doesn’t have a negative connotation to me, but it is not inspiring either. I would have preferred several other names, but I’m glad it’s done. If this team wins it won’t matter, keep losing and everything gets criticized. I do know without a doubt this will have zero effect on wether they win or lose. As far as fan support, win and the fans will be back.
  4. I’m not as high on Willis as some. He lacks traditional QB skills and holds the ball too long. He doesn’t seem to throw with anticipation. Howell fell of a cliff last year. I understand everything he lost (skilled players), but his play did not inspire others around him. He was not real accurate last year, but I do think he was trying to do too much. i think Coral and Pickett throw with anticipation. Both have strong arms and have been very accurate. Pickett is a bigger guy and less mobile, Corral is smaller and more mobile. I think Coral and Picket fit better in Scott Turner’s schemes. They work progressions faster and get the ball out quicker. I lean towards Coral because of his athletic ability. I think Willis has a good upside but you would have to tailor your schemes to his skill set. I think Howell has the lowest ceiling of the group.
  5. So after an excruciating painful first half the Amateur Circus is leading the Dumpster Fire 6-0.
  6. @clskinsfan Good breakdown, I would put Corral #1 and Pickett #2. I hope we don’t consider anyone with a less than above average arm strength, tired of watching floaters out of the WFT backfield.
  7. As far as the retreads go, the only two options I would even consider are Wilson or Carr (both unlikely). Russel Wilson is most likely not returning to Seattle but has shown zero interest in coming to Washington. He is from Richmond VA so maybe there could be interest. The other is Carr but I don’t think Vegas is going to move on from him with a new head coach coming in. I would not pick off any one else’s rejects. I would also add you never know what’s going to happen with D Watson. Ron seems like the kind of coach that believes in second chances. If the legal issues get magically resolved you never know. I understand this isn’t a super talented or deep draft class, but it only takes one guy. Seems we may have a shot at the first QB taken so if they see “it” in either of the top guys they have to jump. I like M Corral best (to be honest I’m in MS and watched all the Ole Miss). He is accurate enough, arm is strong enough, smart enough, and athletic enough. He seems to really inspire the guys around him and coaches love him. He does have a bit of an injury issue, but nothing repetitive or career threatening (sugar bowl was scary). I also like K. Pickett (unfortunate name for a QB). Not as athletic as Corral, but good decision maker and accurate passer. Had a great year this year. Excluding previous noted exceptions, I think it’s time to start completely over. This team is not on the verge of being good, not one or two players from getting great. Draft a QB and build around him.
  8. Taylor is a more athletic Colt McCoy. Smart guy, huge heart but just doesn’t have the release and arm talent of a #1 guy in the NFL. Really like him as the #2 guy. There’s a reasonable chance we will have a shot at the first QB of the board. If Scott and crew are sold on any of those guys you have to take him. I think Pickett or Corral both have a chance under the right circumstances to be very good. Personally I like Corral but I wish I was more confident that our staff wouldn’t ruin him.
  9. I am not a professional scout and I didn’t spend last night in a Holiday Inn, but based on my untrained eyes I think Matt Corral has got the “it” that everyone talks about. He might not be the absolute best at anything, but he’s pretty darn good at everything. He has a strong arm and can make all the throws, he is a very good athlete and moves around very well, unlike previous WFT 1st round picks he knows how to slide, he reads defenses and gets through progressions in a Lane Kiffen pro set offense. He is clearly the leader of the team and the guys rally around him. I think when it is all said and done he will be the first QB off the board and I truly hope he goes to the WFT.
  10. They are all politicians, regardless of which side of the isle they sit, they couldn’t care less about you.
  11. Trubisky seems to have briefly demonstrated in a system built around his skill set he could be successful. Do we have the offensive manpower or desire to do that. Tossing him into our offense will get the same result Nagy got in Chicago.
  12. Next years QB isn’t on the roster now so who starts for the remainder of this season doesn’t really matter. We are a bad team and are going to lose games with any of the QBs on our roster or potentially available. Don’t trade any future picks for any other teams project. Draft a guy in the first round, hope they get it right and try to build around him. We are bouncing along the bottom, we haven’t even started the rebuild yet.
  13. And so the hope dies. I grew up a Washington Redskin fan because of my dad. After traveling the USA and the world compliments of the USAF my loyalty has shifted. I have attended more KC Chiefs and Denver Bronco games than Washington games. I will still pull for Washington to win but they are literally not the Redskins I grew up with. I don’t like the way I feel after watching Washington so I am quitting cold turkey. Best of luck to the team and all on the board, but I’m gone. You can find me on the Chiefs bulletin board if you need me. God bless all.
  14. Kicker competition didn’t last long, Eddie released from practice squad.
  15. They elevated Jared Norris from the practice squad. Not the big LB splash everyone’s looking for but at least it adds some depth.
  16. Humphries must be showing more in practice. Familiarity with Fitz alone isn’t justification to keep him over a better receiver.
  17. Definitely a work in progress, but he is getting better every snap and has a huge upside. Once the game slows down for him he will be unstoppable.
  18. You’d like to see a little more rhythm from the starting offense. Fitz didn’t look super accurate, communication with the receivers seemed slightly off. Still pretty vanilla stuff and it’s a work in process. D looked pretty stout. Like they say: Preseason doesn’t count, but it does matter.
  19. Four or five guys vying for 1 or 2 slots, C. Simms doesn’t help himself by fumbling.
  20. Ron is all about competition; why is he unwilling to bring in competition at kicker? Is Hopkins that fragile? If this goes ugly it on Ron.
  21. I’m not as sold on P. Barber as the solid get you a couple yard banger as some of you seem to be. I honestly think I like Patterson’s combo of size and speed in that option. When Barber comes in everybody knows what’s happening, Patterson gives you a few more options.
  22. It will take him a game or two to get used to the speed of the game. He clearly was thinking too much and not reacting enough. As he gets more comfortable he won’t have to think, he can just react. He is a great athlete and a smart dude, he will be absolutely fine. Don’t get crazy after one preseason game. Seems I recall similar concerns about Chase Young the first couple games, he seems to be working out ok.
