  1. Definitely glad this got done now, certainly wouldn’t have been any less expensive waiting on the other guys to sign. Seattle doesn’t seem to want to pay Metcalf with their QB situation as it is and rumor has it San Francisco isn’t going to pay Debo the top WR money he wants. I expect Seattle will end up paying Metcalf a little more than Terry got and Debo will end up with a very similar deal as Terry. Glad this drama has passed and when camp gets here they can concentrate on football.
  2. I’m thinking both sides have a general idea of where this deal will end up, but they have to be very gentle in the discussion for long term relations. I’m guessing overall value about $100 mill for five years with $20 mil in the form of a signing bonus and another $50mil or so guaranteed. Not the highest WR contract, but in the top 5. I expect a deal done by the end of next week based on the tone I am hearing.
  3. I really like Terry, a very good player on the field and great guy in the locker room. He is certainly a player you can build around. I completely understand him trying to get every dollar he can in this contract considering the WRs significantly worth diminishing return as they age. I also understand why a team would be concerned with any long term deal with a WR. There are a bunch of them out there and if you don’t have an elite QB to take advantage of the top tier WR maybe you can get by with the less expensive second tier WR. We have Samuel and Dotson, as they pick up targets that means fewer for Terry. Do we have an elite QB to take advantage of our top tier WR? if Ron thought we were close enough to offer Cooper more than $20 mill, I can’t see any logical reason Terry isn’t worth $20 mil a year. Only significant change is Carson Wentz. If you believe in Wentz, you have to sign Terry. If not, maybe Terry is worth more to the team playing for another team.
  4. It’s a bit premature for us to pick sides when we have no details. Is Terry asking for top WR money ($25 mil/year) or is the team low balling him for $17 mil/yea. Truth is probably somewhere in between. I believe Terry is under contract and should be present in camp. He’s not going to sit out a year and not play so he is only hurting himself and his chemistry with Carson. With WR salaries getting so stupidly high who knows what the Cap # will be next year. So either way he signs long term and gets paid, walks after next year and gets paid, or gets tagged then signs or walks and gets paid. I understand there aren’t many guarantees, but it’s seems maintaining good will with the team is in his best interest. Unfortunately you can’t pay everyone. The team is going to have to make some hard decisions.
  5. Forget the politics, Jack has become a distraction on the field. Every player is being asked about it and the press is trying to stir more controversy. I don’t care what JDR thinks, I don’t look to the NFL for my values, but when it starts affecting the team he needs to go.
  6. Jack’s going to get fired at the end of the season anyway after the defense under performs and costs the team a few games. This process started last year, this is still just the beginning of the end.
  7. Cash on hand isn’t nearly as important in the salary capped NFL. Our lack of continued activity in free agency was strategic (wentz, Terry, etc…). You might not agree with the strategy, but it was all dictated by Wentz. Not doing camp in Richmond might be a sign of cash flow shortages, but don’t worry about Danny, he will be ok.
  8. Everybody should get better matchups. With potentially Terry, Samuel, Johan and Dyami on the field at one time somebody’s got to be open. If Wentz can find that guy it’s going to be a fun year.
  9. Detroit already had 4 QBs going into Camp, none of whom will beat out Goff at the top of the heap. Why would they want another back-up Q?
  10. Taylor is a very likable, smart young man. He wasn’t drafted and was studying for exams for a reason when we picked him up. He plays with a bunch of heart a certainly will give you everything he’s got. Unfortunately what he’s got isn’t enough to be a quality NFL starting QB. Comparing him to Wentz is funny; they have completely different skill sets. I think the best comparison for Taylor will always be Colt McCoy. Can he be a serviceable backup - absolutely. After a year in the pros, will Howell be a better prospect - I think so. I hope Carson is what we all hope he is and stays healthy so who QB2 is becomes irrelevant.
  11. Bradberry at the right price would be great. He would definitely upgrade our defensive backfield. We still need to pay at least one LB not currently on the team, sign our rookies and extend Terry. If we can do all that and still sign Bradberry I say do it. Note: I think Bradberry will want more than we are willing to pay and sign elsewhere.
  12. With the exception of an injury, I will be surprised if Howell ever sees the game day active roster. If he shows them enough next year he will then replace Taylor as the backup.
  13. Carson refused a COVID shot extremely pissing off the owner and played poorly (along with the rest of the team) in an important game against the worst team in the league and became the scapegoat for all that was wrong in Indy. For 13 weeks he had a top 10 QBR and they won 11 games, for four weeks he wasn’t. I don’t know how well he will play in Washington, but I do believe he is the best QB we have had in many years. I don’t know what kind of leader he is or isn’t but I think we have enough veterans to handle the leadership aspect if he is lacking If my options today were (1) Carson Wentz coming off of everything he is coming off of (2) Matt Ryan at this stage in his career I would take Carson Wentz every time. I’m not saying Carson would have been my choice of all the potentially available options, but if it was between him and Matt Ryan it’s not even a tough decision.
  14. Any evaluation of a draft completed before any of these guys plays a game seems a bit premature. Let’s have this discussion after the season and we’ll have some evidence to support our arguments.
  15. If one of your offensive goals it to have a QB2 with a similar skill set as your QB1, we are much closer to that with Howell than Taylor H. Two scenarios I can envision. Scenario #1. QB#1 (Wentz) plays up to his potential, everybody contributes and the world is good. QB#2(Heinecke) plays a the primary backup all season. QB#3(Howell) is inactive all year. QB#2’s contact expires and he takes his pockets full of cash back to ODU to finish his degree. QB#1 signs 3 year extension for bags of money, QB#3 becomes QB#2. Scenario #2. Based on Washington’s recent history, QB#1(Wentz) and QB#2(Heinecke) will start the season on the active roster. QB#3(Howell) will be on the roster but not active on game day. QB#1 plays pretty good until week 4 and he breaks a finger on his throwing hand and is out for six weeks. QB#2 starts game five, QB#3 now active as backup. QB#2 plays pretty good for one game until he breaks his collarbone trying to get an extra yard when he is still four yards short of the third down. QB#2 is out for the season. QB#3 is now the starter and QB#4(TBD) is the backup. QB#3 plays pretty good until QB#1 gets healthy and returns on week 10. Now we have a true QB controversy. QB#1 returns to starter, but is replaced in week fifteen by QB#3. QB#3 finishes the season as the starter. QB#1’s and QB#2’s contracts expire and do not return. QB#3 opens next year as the starter. I am really hoping for scenario #2.
  16. The beginning of the end of the Heinicke era.
  17. With all our needs, we are getting one guy that will be a starter on opening day. This type of draft strategy should be reserved for teams coming off of good seasons that won 11 or 12 games last year. The type of draft a very confident coach runs thinking of longer term rather than immediate impact. I’m not sure that fits our scenario, but It seems to be an extremely low risk plan for a team that should probably be taking a few wild swings. Don’t get me wrong, I like Dotson a lot and think he will be an immediate impact. The Bama Boys we drafted will definitely see the field on a rotational basis and could work themselves into starting roles. Don’t know much about our safety but it sounds like he has been on the radar for a minute. All seem like work hard good character guys that will fit right into Ron’s new culture. Maybe we pick up another player that can make the team as a third stringer special teams contributer. Nothing to get real excited about, slow, safe, steady and boring. It all will still hinge on how well our new QB#1 plays. All these pieces might look real smart if Wentz comes out balling and the defense plays up to their potential. If we truly were just a good QB away from being a pretty good football, maybe this was a very smart draft. Time will tell.
  18. Run defense always matter. They play in a division with Saquon and Zeke. The fellow we drafted will plug up the gaps and stop the run.
  19. I think this board thinks D. Payne is worth more than most of the league. If we could get a 3rd round pick I would take it and run. Maybe could happen during this draft or later this year. I hope the plan is to not just let him walk at the end of the year, but I’m also not sure there is much demand there is or will be.
  20. How hurt isDean? He was at the top of a bunch of lists. Is he worth a shot?
  21. I’ll believe in Curtis Samuel when I actually see him on the field and Dyami Brown had 12 catches last year. It will be an exciting day if we ever line up in a 4 WR set with Terry, Samuel, Dotson and Brown. If speed truly kills, we should be dangerous.
  22. Wentz threw 50-50 balls because his WRs couldn’t get separation. Terry and Dotson can get separation because of their speed and route running so this shouldn’t be a problem.
  23. Based on everything I have seen or read the WRs were separated into the top 6, and then the rest. Dotson was the #6. He will be just fine. His projections are right up there with Olave. He will be a starter on Day 1. Not very big, but very fast and catches the ball and can run all the routes and stretch the defense. If we get a good player in the 3rd it is definitely worth it.
  24. Couldn’t pay Terry and AJ. Never a thought.
