  1. Ron's original plan for this game was even more convoluted. He has established again and again he is no QB whisperer and should not be in charge of QBs. When have you ever heard a coach say they're gonna start one guy just so the guy behind him can watch and come in? Now, you hear that in terms of games or parts of the season, but not within a game itself, at the end of the season starts that. Yeah, but that's a guy with hardware, job security, and a rep as a genius. Not even a year removed from hoisting a SB trophy. A guy that's been fired once already, with his butt firmly in the hot seat right now, can't talk like that.
  2. I'm pretty cynical, so I can envision Heinicke isnt gonna string it along here and knows he's gonna test the market. He's got plenty of tape out there at this point. Because hearing Ron describe his plan, Heinicke was only gonna play just enough to give Howell a look at the defense. It would be perfectly reasonable for Heinicke to say to just start the kid if that was the plan.
  3. He had 2 winning seasons. But they were also, not coincidentally, when Gruden stopped fooling around with RG3 and made Cousins the full-time starter. But even in Gruden's first year, thry moved the ball up and down the field, they just couldn't score. They were like 13th in yards, but 26th in points.
  4. I can totally believe this. Heinicke gets his $100k back from Rivera starting Wentz last week. Plays the first series, quarter, half, however long it takes to secure the money, then give way to Howell.
  5. That debut was terrible. The lame new nickname (the CEO), she botched the finisher, the promo was awful, not helped by the typical muted Japanese crowd.
  6. The only thing I can think of is Rivera is trying to serve 2 masters. He feels like he can't afford to not finish at .500, but also knows Howell needs to play. So he picked this dopey plan. Get this guy outta here. smh
  7. On the list of ways that you think you're gonna go, "sucked into a jet engine" probably not in my top 500.
  8. We've seen A guy do it and even then, in an extremely small sample size though. And he's got Kyle Shanahan coaching him up, there's only one of him and we dont have a guy like that. There's just not enough evidence Purdy can sustain this level of play over the long term. Gardner Minshew started out looking pretty good, then eventually people figure out he's more backup than starter.
  9. I'd say Shanahan was most disappointing. I think because he talked a good game and seemed so sure of himself and his way, I bought in.
  10. It's just history. We can talk about the draft being a crap shoot, especially at the QB position, but QBs drafted that low almost always fail to ever become viable, long-term starting QBs. Sure, judge every player on their own merits, not on their draft position, but the numbers are overwhelming. Taking Brady out of the discussion since he's the exception to every rule on anything, you can count on one hand the number of QBs drafted in the 5th or later in the last 30 years that were worth anything for more than a couple years. I get every fan's watched the tape or watched him in college and their scouting acumen says they know better and he's supposed to be wonderful. I guess we'll see.
  11. Except, they didnt spend money on OL either of the previous 2 years either when they had cap money to work with. Paying Scherff and rolling with Heinicke surely would have gotten at least the same results.
  12. There's also nothing really invested in him. Anythingbhe does is bonus. My expectations are lower for him than a lot of people's it seems. I never really bought into the "he's a steal" stuff.
  13. Which dooms next season before this season is even over. Barring some Geno Smith-esque dart throw that pays off. Or a Brock Purdy-esque longshot.
  14. This is such an unmitigated disaster. The real problem going forward is, having what amounts to a lame duck regime picking the new QB. I feel confident in saying none of us really want this front office/coaching staff setting the future course at QB and developing said player. How it looks is, Rivera and Co. is either gonna look for a win now vet, which is how we wound up with Wentz, or draft a guy and then get fired in a year. Leaving the new coach with a guy they didnt draft. Which is basically what happened with Rivera coming in and having Haskins laying around. Which had the domino of going DE rather than QB, yada, yada, we know the story.
  15. He doesnt need a big market. All you need is one. Not suggesting anybody wants to make him their starting QB, but this current situation has run it's course. He could carve out a nice gig backing up one of the stud QBs. But he's have a job somewhere. Chase Daniel can't play forever.
  16. At some point, I can see Heinicke wanting to take his chances elsewhere. He's established enough of a market for himself in the league that he doesn't have to keep hanging around here.
  17. That's a pretty feeble attempt at damsge control. Why he didnt know is irrelevant.
  18. Makes whatever positive attributes he's supposed to have basically useless.
  19. This better not get glossed over this week. I mean, I almost want them to be eliminated just for Ron to have to own that. And the Packers just got a pick 6 as I say that.
  20. He's been nothing but a model teammate here though. Not even a peep about anything negative in that regard.
  21. Well, I guess that settles the "If Wentz played in this offense" debate. He has been extraordinarily bad.
