  1. It's been a long time since I read the books, and honestly, I never read the later ones in the series. I always thought the Dark Tower books could potentially be turned into great movies, and think I first learned they were in the works on this message board. Last I heard, I thought Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) was slotted for the gunslinger role. That role is going to be played by Idris Elba. Apparently, the first movie is a lot closer than I knew. Seems like it's not going to follow the books, which is probably good. I have no idea how they would make all the stuff with Blain the train not corny. Also McConaughey as Randall Flag. Looking forward to this when it finally comes around. http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/700105-idris-elba-is-the-gunslinger-on-the-dark-tower-set
  2. That HBO show 'The Night Of' premiers July 10th, but episode one is on HBO Go and, I think, HBO Now. Seems promising.

  4. djmorris81 says he has a workaround here. Worth a shot. https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12565196/connecting-vpn-client-5007-returns-error-443-logs-included
  5. The Asus RT-N56U is a good one. $85 on Amazon, if you're a prime member. I've dealt with two of these, in an optometrist's two offices. They use them for internet, and have several thinkpads connecting to the LAN over wifi, used for accessing server-based applications. Been like 4 years and never even had to reboot either one. They just work.
  6. Both QBs are not very good. Redonkulous interceptions while the game was still in the balance. The D got worn down. Unable to run against a previously crappy run D. Likely with a huge mistake gave them some steam too. Just bad, all around. Two months til hoops.
  7. I think Will Likely is 44 yards short of the NCAA all time record for punt return yards in a game. Broke the Big 10 record..
  8. All my likes to the Friday Night thread, forever and always! Strong reboot. I'll screw it up here. Nite!
  9. Those crypto viruses are nasty. I've only had to deal with it twice. One, I was able to get everything back by getting the crap cleaned off, Windows fixed up, manually removing a bunch of files related to the virus, and then restore documents using previous versions. Really scary because this user had mapped drives to the company's server, and cryptro variants can propagate to other machines over mapped drives. Fortunately, he did not have rights to the mapped drives via Group Policy. Not sure if that's why it didn't get to the server, or we just got lucky. The other time, I couldn't get anything back. Guy lost all of his documents.
  10. Windows 10 is doing it's first forced update tonight. I think you can defer it if you have Pro, but Home users' PCs are getting that update installed and getting rebooted tonight. Make sure you have anything you're working on saved. I just manually did it to get it out of the way.
  11. Thought about it again for a second Did you try that thing out on a SATA drive? If SATA works, you might just need A SATA to Molex adapter to make the IDE drives power up and work with the adapter. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816038 ...I checked. The model we use in our office is that same BT-300 model.
  12. Maybe you just got a bad one? I know on that Bytecc one I posted, there's an actual 4 prong molex connector that you have to plug straight into the IDE hard drive to get power to it. The IDE drives do not power up and spin like the SATAs, with just the SATA connection on the adapter. This is all independent of the USB connection to the computer you are copying to. The hard drives power up, outside of a USB connection. Edit: I'm really not positive that is the exact Bytecc one we have at work. It only shows the base of what looks like we use, but there are several cables/attachments not shown in the picture. I will double check the model tomorrow. Not it, but kind of what it looks like here:
  13. We've used this for old IDE drives where I work for a while. Always has worked for us, but I've seen some bad reviews too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812156102&cm_re=bytecc_ide_to_usb-_-12-156-102-_-Product Here's another. Never used it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002
  14. Roger that. I downloaded from there and Bison Electronics directly. No drivers work. Windows can't install it. Compatability mode doesn't get it to install. They say if it worked on Windows 7, it should work on 10. That's definitely not going to be the case for every little thing. Who knows, maybe it's protecting me from superfish, or whatever that Lenovo spyware was. Don't need it anyway. Upgrade went perfect on a Surface Pro, which I half thought would bomb out, because of course it would.
  15. Did the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 on my Lenovo Y570 laptop. Went very smoothly. The webcam no longer works after the upgrade. Neither the Windows 7 or 8 drivers will install, The OS stops the install and warns that it's incompatible. Not a big deal, because I don't use it. I just wanted to see how the upgrade went. I imagine a lot these driver issues will pop up for people upgrading. I would wait to upgrade for a little bit, just to see if people are reporting successes or failures with whatever particular computer model and/or hardware components you might have. And of course, have some kind of backup of at least important files, etc. before upgrading. Second issue: Avast AV was turned off after the upgrade. Turned it on and the PC locked up. Hard shutdown and booted back up, Avast was working, but not communicating with Windows Security Center. Looked at their forums, and there are some issues. Had to do a repair install of Avast, reboot, and now it's working. I use the paid version and paid extra for Secureline VPN, which was not working even after the repair install. I found a registry edit fix on their forums. Check your Antivirus compatibility, and any other software you might be worried about, before upgrading and see if there are any known issues.
  16. Ha. Well, there you go then. You can't beat free. My next point was going to be about licensing costs for the different features, but you're aware of that already then. I think I would use a free SonicWall at home and pay for the gateway security stuff with no hesitation, especially if there were more than one person to worry about getting malware on a semi-regular basis. They really do a great job of stopping a lot of that. If I ever upgrade my router, I would probably think about paying for one.
  17. Not at home, but have used many wireless TZ 105 and 205 models in businesses. What are you trying to do with it? SonicWalls are good, but not the easiest things to manually configure. The built in wizards are good. It's not real intuitive for a lot of stuff though. Pretty much everything is doable, sometimes in many different ways. It can be frustrating researching official documentation on how to do something, and it doesn't work. The answers are always out there, but sometimes the official documentation leaves a little to be desired. For a simple home network, a SonicWall is probably overkill IMO, unless you just really like messing around with configuring firewalls. If anything, maybe save yourself some money and use the 205 or 105. What makes you want the 215? They're pricey.
  18. Pan Am games on espn2 tonight at 9:00pm. USA vs Venezuela. Not sure, but I imagine Melo will be on the floor, at least some.
  19. Citizens of Winnipeg got an earful of dirty language from the skies. http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2015/06/24/Police-helicopter-loudspeaker-broadcasts-X-rated-conversation/3431435161844/?spt=su
  20. Moving/extending the spout is a definite like others say. For anyone else, and hopefully not you, I had this issue in my basement also and all I needed was new gutters. The gutters I had looked fine to me but water was actually getting between them and the fascia and coming straight down. I would go out in storms and look, but I could never really see it. I was getting quotes from foundation people and basement waterproofing contractors, and about to spend a ton of money on that. One day I saw a couple leaves stuck between the fascia and back of the gutter and thought that's kind of odd. Decided to replace the gutters first and the problem never happened again. Saved myself 10+ grand by just getting new gutters. Edit: Guess I should have mentioned I got fancy modern gutters w/ caps. The old standard ones that were there and had been doing their job fine and just stopped doing that one day. It was kind of a needed upgrade that I had been thinking about anyway. Very high steep roof, very not into ladders for gutter cleaning at that height.
