  1. Maybe, but people still know who Ted Williams was and respect his accomplishments. Too bad he went 0-4 in Game 7 in his only World Series appearance.
  2. There's enough centrist Tories that don't want no-deal for that to be a possibility. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/09/tory-mps-react-with-fury-to-talk-of-no-deal-brexit-manifesto-promise Johnson has apparently secured a deal with Juncker, at least, and plans to bring it to Parliament soon. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/13/general-election-boris-johnson-act-swiftly-brexit-deal-back-to-mps Major difference between this deal and Teresa May's is the Irish border. The major hangup was the whole Irish "backstop" https://www.euronews.com/2019/10/31/what-s-in-boris-johnson-s-brexit-deal-with-the-european-union Problem I see his how do they enforce this. Maybe they don't care.
  3. Through Parliament, maybe. The EU also has to approve of it.
  4. Corbyn is leader of the Labor party, which means (correct me if I'm wrong) only the Labor MPs can vote out Corbyn as leader. Kind of like how House Majority/Minority leaders are elected. (Speaker of the House is actually full house vote, so not exactly the same, though effectively controlled by one party as you don't generally see Republicans voting for a Democratic speaker and vice-versa)
  5. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/crime-courts/chase-shootout-involving-hijacked-ups-truck-florida-leads-multiple-deaths-n1096871 Looks like two of the deaths may have been innocent bystanders 😥
  6. Looks like Elias got what he could for Villar and Bundy. Yes next year is gonna be tough again but with any luck there will be a few surprises that might give us some hope for the future. I just hope them carrying Davis doesn’t force the Os to expose potentially productive players to waivers / rule V
  7. The original comment by Mr. Sinister only said exsanguination, which is blood loss. That alone does not sound horrific. But "Exsanguination due to feral hog assault" is. Compared to something like "Disembowelment"which would is always horrific regardless of circumstances (unless you were under anesthesia, I suppose)
  8. Seems like a pretty peaceful way to go actually. You bleed out until you loose consciousness. Much worse ways to die.
  9. Tesla has a route planner here. https://www.tesla.com/trips I plugged in San Jose to LA. When I drive to LA normally I stop twice over 6 hours. With the Model 3 its still 2 stops and 6 hours.
  10. Nationals weren't an expansion team in 2005. Though I guess in terms of talent inherited from the Expos, they may as well have been.
  11. Most MLB players aren't all that productive after age 35. Guys like Cruz are an exception. If you figure a guy is going to be replacement level about the time he reaches 35, the only thing that matters is the total money and how much WAR you expect over the life of the contract. Since his age 24 season, Rendon has averaged 5.3 bWAR per year discounting 2015 in which he only played 80 games in an injury plagued season. There's likely to be some decline but lets say he's worth around 4 WAR per season for next 6 years, or 24 WAR total, and rapidly diminishing returns after that. A WAR is worth about $8m on the open market so the fair payment based on that projection would be 24 * 8 = 192, around 200 million. The Dodgers 5/200 might be a slight overpay, but they are probably banking on him being more towards 5 WAR/season average.
  12. So I was thinking Caps win Stanley Cup, Nats win World Series. DC teams with a nickname that has the pattern *a*s (where * is a single character) have won championships. So maybe if the Redskins change their name to the Radskins and so they could be nicknamed the "Rads" so they would have a chance of winning a championship.
  13. A bit off topic, but any Super Mega Baseball 2 players here? I've been playing for the past couple of weeks and the gameplay is pretty darn good once you get the hang of it and find the right difficulty level
  14. Yeah I don't get it. True, it looks about as appetizing as your average frozen microwave meal, but not sure what people are expecting for airline food ... maybe they just don't dig chicken, chuck roast, mashed potatoes and gravy?
  15. Personally, I was fine with the fates of the major characters. The problem with S8 was not really the who/what/where but the how. Magic heat seeking ballistas which take down one of Dany's dragons "by surprise" from like two miles out when fired from woodens ships at sea, which then magically don't work in next episode from prepared positions behind fortified castle walls because reasons The Dothraki riders get wiped out by the Army of the Dead. But wait, they didn't. There's like an entire division of them in the very next episode. Most of the characters miraculous survive even when totally surrounded by the AoTD after overrunning Winterfells defenses. Dany's "Turn to the Dark Side" was like, a total WTF moment, barely foreshadowed because Jon Snow was too tired from work to lay down the pipe or something? It just felt like, they had the major plot points from Martin, but could not connect the dots in any way which made sense. I was satisifed with Theon, Jon Snow, and Sansa's ending though. The basement scene with Jaime and Cersei was totally brutal in a very GoT type way. And the Iron Throne scene with Dany and Jon Snow was really well done.
  16. Are any Nats fans here who are opposed to the DH, reconsidering their position? 😁
  17. Verlander already at 70 pitches, Strasburg only with 35. Nats could see the Astros bullpen early, while Strasburg may be able to hang for 7
  18. It is possible for homes to survive wildfires. The state needs to mandate that all new construction will need to be fireproof.
  19. Referenda are not constitutionally binding in the UK. The UK courts have ruled that Parliament is sovereign. If the people don't like what Parliament is doing, then can elect a new Parliament which reflect the public will. Parliament has attempted, in good faith, for nearly the last three years, to negotiate a withdrawal agreement with the EU that was in the interests of the British people. They have failed. The public should now be well informed of the complex issues that a withdrawal from the EU entails. I think its reasonable that a second referendum has the option to call the whole thing off.
  20. Probably for the best. They were good adopting existing material but sucked at developing their own.
  21. Not sure if this was mentioned on the thread but apparently two women behind home plate attempted to distract Gerrit Cole by showing him the goods😃 https://www.complex.com/sports/2019/10/two-women-flash-gerrit-cole-behind-home-plate-world-series?utm_campaign=complexmag&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR0E6Su53gV0_vlMSciTO0g6eZ4lnXJ8iVLUfSiHlPGfFmFt6voSquc9UTw
  22. Regular season I wouldn’t count on needing a walk off home run by Rio Ruiz against Osuna in the bottom of the 9th to win That was hitting on 19 in blackjak and drawing a 2 type of deal The Orioles would most likely get swept by the Astros in a postseason series. Well, Maybe Means or Bundy steal a game
