  1. I’m sorry, but did why would Snyder fire Gibbs after a lackluster 2006 season off the heels of their first playoff win since 99? Gruden didn’t have the background or resume of Gibbs. How do you come out in a must win game with lackadaisical effort in front of a rare packed home crowd? Gruden was a mediocre coach, who shouldn’t have gotten to coach this team for 5 years.
  2. The fact that he settled for a mediocre 38 year old QB, who had never taken a team to the playoffs in his 17 seasons, after NOT drafting a QB in a class that was MUCH better than the QB class this year is a serious red flag. That is a botch. I know they tried to trade for Stafford and struck out, but that shouldn’t have led to signing Fitzpatrick as the next best option. That makes no sense quite frankly. If you were going to sign Fitzpatrick, it should’ve been as a bridge QB for the rookie they should’ve drafted last year. Why they didn’t draft a QB, I’ll never know. Now they have to draft a QB from an underwhelming draft class, where there is no clear QB1 out of the bunch. The 6th QB taken in last year’s draft (Davis Mills), might be better than the 1st QB taken in this year’s draft.
  3. Gibbs got to the Playoffs two out of his four seasons here. He retired, but could’ve coached a lot longer if he wanted. Shanahan also lasted 4 season, but he drafted his QB (2 of them actually), which gave him a longer leash. No idea why Gruden lasted as long as he did. He should’ve been fired after the home loss to the Giants that kept us out of the playoffs.
  4. What else does the NFL stand for besides National Football League? It also stands for NOT FOR LONG. No coach in the league except for maybe Bill Belichick and Andy Reid can be presumed as safe if they happen to have a bad season, or show no signs of major team improvement. Next year is Rivera’s 3rd season coaching this team. We’ve won 7 games both seasons, and won a fluke division title in the process. Unless this team upgrades the QB Position in a major way next year by drafting a QB or trading for a big time veteran QB, Ron’s job status shouldn’t be a slam dunk either way. He botched the QB situation big time last year by not drafting a QB. That would’ve bought him at least 2 more seasons minimum. Now he’s operating from a mindset of panic and urgency to get his QB. If Ron busts on improving the QB situation this offseason, you’re damn right his job status should be in jeopardy. We’re a mediocre 7-8 win team at the moment without one. All the bottom feeder teams that used to occupy space with us are now winning playoff games and getting to conference championships (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo etc). Pretty soon we’ll have the longest streak w/o a playoff win and a conference championship , unless we get the QB situation rectified. Nothing else matters until then.
  5. I don't think that this is the case. In the NFL, you don't have the excuse anymore of needing your entire contract to get a team from bad to contender. We see this every year in the league where teams go from worst to first in only a season or two seasons at most. Most of that is attributed to finding that QB that can lead your team for the next 10-15 years. I don't care how bad your team is, or how terrible the front office is, the excuses get tired after a coach fails to get a team on the right path after 3 seasons. It doesn't matter if the owner is Bob Kraft or even Dan Snyder, 3 years is plenty of time to make the case that the team is headed towards being a playoff team/contender. That's why last offseason was a colossal fail for Ron. To ensure himself an extension or seeing the 5th year of his contract, he should've drafted his rookie QB in a great rookie class. That would have bought Ron at least 2 seasons to show ownership and the remaining fans left of this franchise that we have a plan, and we have our guy that can lead us to relevancy. Now in year 3, he STILL doesn't have his rookie QB, and the rest of the fanbase is getting restless when they see teams like Cincinnati and Buffalo winning playoff game and getting to conference championships after being in the cellar with us for years. There's added pressure on him now to get the QB position right after sitting on his hands last offseason. If he doesn't get his guy either by trade or by the draft, the clock would definitely start ticking towards him not seeing year 4.
  6. It's Rivera's fault that he's at this crossroads in the first place. Not drafting a QB last year in a better draft class, and signing Ryan freaking Fitzpatrick put him behind the 8-ball bigtime. Because of their inaction, they're in a position where they have to swing big either by trade or by the draft. We only have 2 or 3 pro-bowi level players, and a bunch of B or C level players behind that. I would argue that we now have a worse FO handling the draft and scouting than what we had with Kyle Smith. With how this past draft went, it might actually be better for them to part with some 1st round picks, if they can get Watson or Wilson. This past draft shows that they reached in the 1st round.
  7. This is wrong, and incredibly short sided. The clock on Rivera started the moment that he passed up on drafting QB last year, and settling for the 40 year old Fitzpatrick. That was a really dumb move, and it highlights just how stupid we were last offseason with regards to the QB position. Now Ron is looking at year 3, and his options are even crappier than last year. He has to now swing really big to acquire a Vet via trade. Possibly multiple 1st round picks. And it might not be enough anyways. He could draft a QB, but this class is clearly worse than last year’s class. He’s really backed himself into a corner. If he can’t land Rodgers, Wilson or Carr via trade, he’s stuck selling the fan base on a rookie QB, and a crappy bridge QB like Trubisky/Mariotta. That’s a nightmare scenario, and will eventually get him canned when 20K people show up to the games with the lack of marquee opponents on the home schedule next year. Edit, sorry Rdskns2000. I was responding to Silvernon’s post saying that Ron was safe, and that he could get an extension.
  8. Where inside the beltway is there an unused plot of land greater than 200 acres that Snyder can move to? If there was landscape that large available, that would obviously be the first choice. Since there's not any free space of that size within 30 miles of DC, it makes it easier to understand why the team would want to build out in Loudoun County, where you have loads of upper middle class and rich families living, plus a new Metro station that will open up in the next year that you can build around with new housing and commercial developments. All of this by the way, a mere 5-10 minutes from an International Airport (Dulles). It's almost a foregone conclusion when you think about it.
  9. You guys don’t get it. There’s literally ZERO chance the team end up back in DC. Everything inside the beltway is built up already. Where are they going to get the 200+ acres needed to build the stadium and the housing and restaurant developments around the stadium? DC won’t play hardball because of Snyder, not to mention the issues surrounding that Congress is investigating at the moment. Maryland might happen, but again, where can they build inside the beltway? It’s either National Harbor (no metro, and no available land) or building at the Fed-Ex site. Virginia wants to play ball with the team, and Snyder can convince the government there to build a new complex with all the trimmings. It’s going to be VA that wins in the end. VA inside the beltway is already built up, so look to Loudoun for the available space and metro accommodations. Makes the most sense, since their office is already here in Ashburn. For those of you stating that the team will lose its Maryland fan base, guess what, it has already happened. The team sucking like it has for the last 20+ years, plus the Ravens being a stable winning franchise only 30 minutes up the road from Landover has already cost us most of Maryland. The stadium is located in MD for God’s sake, and we’ve lost 40-50% of the fan attendance at that toilet bowl the last 10 years.
  10. Bills were in the AFC Championship game last year. That’s one team you can take off the list.
  11. Attendance is not the biggest issue with the new stadium. It's attracting year long events other than football. All the new stadiums that have opened up over the last 10-15 years all have one thing in common. All of them were retractable roof/dome stadiums with housing, restaurants and attractions built around the stadium. The goal of opening a new stadium now is to have it host not only NFL games, but Super Bowls, Final Fours and major concerts/festivals. Snyder must be pissed when he sees all the rave reviews for the Cowboys Stadium, and all the other new venues that have opened up in the past few years like the new Vikings Stadium, new Raiders Stadium and the new LA Stadium. All these new venues have either hosted a Super Bowl, or will host a Super Bowl in the next 5 years. That's what Dan cares about at the end of the day. A new venue to host all the premier events and festivals that DC misses out on often. I bet you dollars to donuts that the new venue will be a retractable roof stadium, and that we will get awarded a Super Bowl within 5 years after the new stadium opens. It's what Dan has always wanted. The new stadium will also have a 70-75K seating capacity. It fits with the other recent venues like the LA Stadium or the Vikings Stadium, where the capacity doesn't exceed 75K.
  12. What other options do they have? It's pretty clear that DC doesn't want the team back in the city, and won't play ball with Snyder and company. MD is an option, but how much better is it really? The only location in MD worth locating to is the National Harbor, but there's no Metro there, and it's right next to the WW Bridge. VA is really the only logistical area that Snyder can move the new stadium to. It's not lost on me that there's a new Republican governor, who will cater more to Snyder's wishes than if a Democratic Governor were in power. Youngkin will gladly do business with Snyder. My guess is that the new stadium will be near Route 28 in Sterling, or maybe in Ashburn closer to the team office. I think Prince William is a longshot, because there's no Metro there. At least in Sterling/Ashburn, the Silver Line will be complete within the next few years. The team is in a rush to get out of Fed-Ex before 2027. If they're working under that timeline, then they most likely need to get an agreement in place this year, and begin building the stadium next year or in 2024 at the latest. If they wait too long, we might have to extend our lease at Fed-Ex, and play at that dump beyond 2027.
  13. We have to stop this line of thinking. Heinecke is NOT going to lead us to the playoffs. He’s been figured out as a QB, not to mention that you have to limit your playbook because of his limitations. You cannot have him as the starter going into next year. He’s a backup at best. If something goes terribly wrong this offseason where we don’t draft a QB, or sign or trade a QB through free agency, then we will have had a horrific off-season, and we’ll be the worst team in the division next year. Keeping Heinecke as QB1 also puts to bed any ideas of us attracting any free agents on offense, and probably assures us of losing Terry in free agency. For us to attract any free agents as it is, we either have to overpay, or dramatically upgrade the QB position to have a chance to compete.
  14. None of that matters at the end of the day. The NFL is a results driven business. Jamin Davis is a clear example of the error of not drafting a rookie QB last offseason. He overreached in drafting Davis, who we were hoping would be our MLB, but now will most likely be moved to OLB. That's a huge reach for your 1st round pick in a draft where there were QB's that you could've traded up for. It doesn't help when our rival picked the DPOY, and he's looking to terrorize the division and the league for the next 10+ years. Ron messed up last year, and he knows it now unfortunately. He now has to rectify it by being aggressive this coming offseason.
  15. Not so fast my friend. It's not certain that Ron will be here longer than next year. He's already put himself at a pretty big disadvantage by neglecting to address the QB situation after swinging and missing on Stafford last offseason. His non-action in drafting a QB cost him big time. If he had drafted a QB last offseason, he could've afforded himself another 2 seasons after the unexpected division title. Now we're in a situation where we have an obvious need, everyone knows we have to swing for the fences to acquire a Rodgers/Wilson/Watson, and we're just outside of the top 10 in the NFL draft where a few teams will be picking ahead of us that need QB's as well. Ron HAS to try to get a QB by any means necessary this coming offseason. I think he realizes that he screwed the pooch last year by trying to win a terrible division, and giving up after not being able to acquire Stafford by trade. You can tell in his interviews recently that he knows that he's probably not going to see Year 4 of his deal if he can't get that franchise QB we so desperately need.
  16. That's not a sure thing. He will get all 5 years, provided he does something drastic at the QB position. If we stand pat, or fail to get any of the top QB's this coming draft for whatever reason, then all bets are off. In the NFL you get 3 years to prove to team management that you have a vision, a plan and most importantly a QB that you can win with and compete for a SB with. That last one is what's holding Rivera back, and could cripple him before he has a chance to prove that the culture is indeed successful. Coaches have been fired for far less. Look at what happened to the Dolphins today. Flores won 10 games, and then 9 games with Fitzpatrick and then Tua as his QB's. All Miami had to do was trade for Watson, and then they'd be a team to be reckoned with in the AFC. They were slow to pull the trigger because Flores believed in Tua when management didn't. Now Flores has been fired for that reason. Rivera has had two 7 win seasons, and won a division with a losing record. He's anything but safe unless they try to improve at QB big time. That means no more retreads or mediocre QBs'. The longer we wait to make our move like Miami did, the less enthusiastic management will be about future plans.
  17. We don't know that. He has to assume that he is in danger of being fired, if we don't do something significant in the offseason. We screwed the pooch this past offseason with FA and the Draft. We need to make major moves this offseason to put the team in the best possible position to compete for the playoffs next year and moving forward. We can't have another offseason like the last one, where you don't decide to draft a QB in a QB rich draft, and end up signing a 38 Year Old Fitzpatrick. No more treadmills at QB. We need to go all out in trying to trade for a marquee QB like Wilson Watson or Carr, or we need to get a QB in Round 1. If Ron fails to do either, and signs some mediocre scrub like Trubisky or Mariotta while failing to draft a QB in R1 again, then he is in big trouble, and he shouldn't see year 4. This is an important, pivotal offseason in more ways than one. The team has to hit it out of the park with the name announcement, sign names in FA that will improve the team and get their franchise QB. This might be the most important offseason for this team in several years. We have to act like we're not going to go staus quo, or we risk falling further behind the Cowboys, Eagles and all the other playoff teams in the NFC.
  18. Struggles at times???? You do realize his record against .500 teams right? He’s 7-35 against teams over .500 in his career, and his primetime record is 9-17, with most of those victories against scrub teams like the Bears. You do realize he just won a primetime game against the Bears a few weeks ago, where he threw for 87 yards and threw 2 INT’s, the other primetime game he won against the Steelers, he threw below 50% and singlehandly kept the Steelers in the game. Even when he wins, he still looks terrible. He’s the definition of anti-clutch.
  19. This. It all starts and ends with the QB on any football team. The fact we might finish with 7 or 8 wins with the dumpster fire we have at QB and all the injuries/COVID shows us how much we need even an above average QB, much less a Top 10 or 5 QB. Could you imagine Stafford on this team this year, or Carr? We would’ve won at least 10+ games this year, and been in contention in the NFC. We should go all out and swing for the fences this coming offseason for a QB. If Carr becomes available, then we need to do everything we can to get him. Same with Rodgers and Wilson (if they’re interested in coming here). The NFC will be a different landscape next year with potentially Rodgers and Wilson gone from their respective teams. That means that it wouldn’t take much to be a contender in the NFC with Tampa Bay, Dallas and the LA Rams. If we have Carr, we’d have a QB just as good as Stafford and Dak. I bring up Carr, because he’s been phenomenal this year with what’s gone on around him. He’s in the top 3 in yards passing, and has been extremely clutch this year when the Raiders have needed a FG or TD to win. He’s been a Top 10 QB for a while, and he’s almost like the anti-Kirk when it comes to being clutch. The team should do everything in its power to get him if the Raiders look to move on from him in the offseason.
  20. Don’t judge his play this year due to the circumstances around him. It’s not his fault that he got hurt and is playing with a bad finger. Russ is still very much a Top 10 QB in this league, and borderline Top 5 when he’s healthy and has a functioning line. I don’t even want to imagine him in the division next year with Golladay, Toney, Engram and a new HC who should be much better than the current coach. If Wilson ends up on NYG next year, then we’d be right back to being a last place team in the NFC East unless we dramatically upgrade our QB Situation. This coming offseason will be very pivotal for Rivera & company. If our division foe dramatically upgrades at QB, and we’re still twiddling our thumbs with the position, we’re in for a world of hurt, and Rivera himself will be in hot water entering year 3.
  21. Actually, sometimes the most simple answer is the correct answer. The QB is exactly why those teams are contenders, while we're as far away from contenders as a team can possibly be. The talent level between most teams is comparable when looking at rosters. What separates teams like ours from teams like theirs is QB play. Our team with a better QB would be right around where the Browns/Bengals/Chargers are, but because our QB play for years has been so porous and awful, we look like a JV Team compared to most contending teams. There's no real difference between a QB like Baker Mayfield, and a QB like Kirk Cousins. If Cousins were still here, we'd probably be a 10-12 win just by the fact that we would have a Top 11-15 QB. We'd be playing with a lead more often, and that would allow our defense to pin it's ears back and be more aggressive, instead of playing reactive when trying to keep a deficit from growing larger like we see every damn week with this team. It's also why we always play behind, simply due to the fact that we can't score the ball consistently enough. It sucks starting every game 7-0, even when we win the toss. It's so deflating and demoralizing as a team to start every game with a deficit, and praying that the other team makes enough mistakes so that we can play catch up. Quick question, who has the second worst point differential in the league? Oh that's right, it's the WFT. Who has yet to score a TD on it's opening drive this year? Oh that's right, it's WFT again. Mayfield, Herbert and Burrow are all Top 15 QB's. I would argue that at least two of those QB's (Herbert and Burrow) are already Top 10 QB's. Just having a QB that can move the offense and score points consistently wins you more games than not. It's something that this team has failed to invest in the past 25 years, and you're seeing the affects on a weekly basis. A franchise QB elevates everyone around him and makes a team that much better.
  22. That’s a great way to drive what’s left of the fan base away for good. This is NOT what we want to have happen this coming offseason. Just draft a Goddammed QB in the 1st round for Christ’s sake. If you get Trubisky, you also need to draft a QB, so Trubisky can be a veteran mentor.
  23. We might have comparable talent to GB, but the other teams in the offseason vying for Rodgers beat us as far as talent, and that puts us at a significant disadvantage. Talent might not even be the deciding factor for why a Rodgers or a Wilson wouldn't consider coming here. The owner, FO and coaching would be enough to keep him away. There's also that other sobering fact that this team is dead last in ratings and attendance. Rodgers and Wilson have been used to playing in front of packed houses full of cheering, rabid home fans. Compare that to DC, where we play in the worst stadium in the NFL, and we also now have the worst attendance in the league. It would be a downgrade in every way imaginable for Rodgers or Wilson to come here. We're probably not even on their radar. Why would we be?
  24. Exactly. We have only 1 above average skill player on offense (T-Mac). Everyone else is either average at best, or way below that. There will be other teams vying for Rodgers during the offseason that have tons of offensive talent compared to us (Browns, Steelers, Broncos, Raiders etc.). If Rodgers were here, we'd be .500 at best. We wouldn't be an elite team, and we'd still have all the off the field distractions and headlines that would embarrass fans and players alike (including Rodgers). One thing to keep in mind, is that we only hear how terrible things are from the press. Imagine what other players and coached around the league have heard about the team and how poorly it's run by former players/coaches and executives that have worked here. I bet Rodgers and Wilson would laugh at the thought of coming to this terrible team. Their agents would also probably make sure that we would have no chance to bid for either QB.
  25. In my opinion, the QB position is the only thing that the team should be working on day and night to solve. This franchise has been twisting in the winds of mediocrity and irrelevancy for the last 30 years, due in part to the incompetence from our ownership and front office, but you can argue that not having a franchise QB during this time period is just as big a factor into the team's decent into mediocrity and irrelevancy. The modern NFL requires you to have a franchise QB to at least have a shot at being a contender for the SB every year. The NFL is not what it once was 30 years ago, 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago. You're not going to be relevant or in contention unless you have a QB that can guide you to double digit victories. Look at the top QB's today. Rodgers, Brady, Wilson and Mahommes can sleepwalk their way to 10-11 wins, even with a bad defense. If you don't have at least a top 10 QB, you're margin of error to win every week is 50-50 at best. Even teams with a great defense or a great running game can be contained more thoroughly than a team with just a great QB. It's why I was never a big believer in our chances to compete this year. Sure we had a top 5 defense (last year), but look how handily Tom Brady neutralized our D-Line in that Wild Card game. The NFL is in a place now where the best defense won't beat a Top QB. If we're trotting out Ryan Fitzpatrick/Taylor Heinecke and a Top 5 defense against a Top 5 QB and a decent team around that Top 5 QB, who do you think is going to prevail? We were never going to win more than 8-9 games this year best case scenario. Even if the defense was performing like it did last year, do you think we would be favored to win games against the QB's we've faced so far this year? The answer is no, because those QB's will always make the plays to move the chains, and score points. We need to swing for the fences at some point to try to attain a franchise QB. If it means trading up to the top spot in the draft for the QB that they like, then they need to do it. If it also means giving up draft capital to acquire a Rodgers or a Wilson, then do it. They can't play around anymore when it comes to the QB position. If you have a franchise QB who can get this team in contention year in and year out, that might be enough for fans to start coming back to games again, and generate excitement. RGIII in 2012 showed us what having a potential franchise QB was like. That was an exciting, thrilling year for this team, that hasn't had too may thrilling seasons since 1991. If you have a franchise QB, the fans will come back. It's the only way to win in the Dan Snyder era.
