  1. I don't disagree with the sentiment. I'd love things to be different, too. I'd love it if there were no Tucker Carlsons or Sean Hannitys. But unfortunately, that's not reality. Unfortunately, Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and all the other talking heads exist. And they get good ratings. So if Tucker Carlson loses his show, he just gets replaced with another guy that does the same schtick. The **** they shovel...it sells. To hear Tucker Carlson whine and moan about the mob is odd, especially when he's got one of the highest rated shows amongst the cable tv news networks. You touched on the crowds of ****ty ass people that validate and approve of it, that's the real problem. Tucker Carlson is a symptom of a much larger, deeper issue. That platform you're angry about only exists because people tune in and the ratings are good. I'm more upset about those people who tune in each night because he preaches what they want to hear. It's more about those people waking up and realizing what's going on. You talk about him changing, about a road to redemption but there's no reason for him to change because what he does works for him. There's no chance he redeems himself or changes what he believes/talks about/spews because it's gotten him this far. He makes about 6 million a year, you think he's going to change? You can call schadenfreude petty, I don't care. I'd be happy if he lost his show, by the looks of it I think others here would be, too. **** that guy. I don't understand how you can hate his behaviors, beliefs and then say you don't hate him. EDIT: Saw where you replied to ASF. Understood. I admire your ability to hold out for change.
  2. I think the players association would have something to say about an MLB team doing whatever they could do to make a player miserable. Something has to give this year if he's still terrible.
  3. I'm not actively campaigning for him to lose his show, but I'd be cool with it if he did. My point, to be clear, is are people really pissed at him for saying what he said? Or are people glad that their assumptions/ideas/feelings about him are confirmed? It's like when Bill Burr talked about the old guy from Duck Dynasty, the guy with the beard down to his dick who was raised in the south and said a bunch of homophobic stuff a few years back. What'd you think he thought? Did anyone think he'd have progressive views on the LGBTQ community? In the same vein, did anyone think that Tucker Carlson wasn't a raging jerk who'd be capable of thinking and saying such things? What'd you expect from him? Here, ffwd to the 2:30 mark: NSFW, obviously. So if we can agree (from the looks of it, most of us aren't shocked that Carlson thinks/said this stuff) then how much room is there to be genuinely pissed off when you expect it from someone like him? For me, it's when I like someone or think someone is good and they turn out NOT to be is when I get pissed or hurt. Like Cosby. Someone like Carlson saying what he said just confirms what I already thought about him, I'm not mad about what I already knew, or assumed to know. But if you're genuinely pissed, sure, go ahead. My other point, do you disagree that there are people out there who are glad that Carlson showed his true colors? Do you disagree that some people are glad that their feelings about Carlson have been confirmed recently? I'm not saying the world should react a certain way according to me, I think you're taking it too far a bit for some reason. I honestly don't care how people react, but I find some reactions interesting more than others. But, schadenfreude. Not a hard concept. Do you disagree that there are people out there that would be happy that he lost his show if he did? Not gonna lie, I'd crack a smile the same way I did when O'Reilly lost his. Experiencing pleasure, joy, or satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures or humiliation of another. I've got no problem admitting it, I'd feel some of that if Carlson lost sponsors or his show. But if you feel sad for a guy like O'Reilly or Carlson losing their show, I don't really care. To each their own.
  4. Sure, but aren't we all happy he did? Look at the disdain we're showing for him here. Complaining about someone voicing the beliefs they hold which are the reasons we hate them for is odd to me. If anything, it should solidify why we hate him, it's affirmative. It's like looking at that guy your ex is dating, you know he's just a douche and then he does something to prove you right. What's next, we dance around in a schadenfreude manner if/when the sponsors pull out and he loses his show? Isn't that what we want? I'd be happy if these comments ****ed him over. I don't think it'd happen, but I'd be totally cool with it if it did.
  5. You and I and the rest of the ES Tailgate provided more value than Davis did last season.
  6. Kinda surprised it took them this long to dig this up. And again, not surprised.
  7. I just can't fathom that these days, (get off my lawn!) a tweet is a valid form of an apology. I shouldn't be able to apologize for something with my iphone while taking a dump. You are right, he doesn't let people speak, hardly any of those "infotainment" characters do. They just shout down their guests. I'd never go on his show if I had an opposing viewpoint.
  8. Yeah, I agree. I've seen his show, he just talks over everyone. There's no honest debate there. **** him. Yep, I'm tired of people apologizing for other peoples feelings.
  9. I agree with point #3, the one unnerving thing about this is that there's a liberal group dedicated to doing stuff like this. I'm sure the conservatives have one, too. Can't have an NFL draft or an NBA draft these days without having an athlete having to apologize for a tweet from 8 years ago. Starting to disagree with your first point. Apologies are being dished out left and right these days, to a point where they're not genuine and meaningless. I believe people aren't sorry for 95% of the things they're being called to the mat on, they're sorry they got called out and are having to deal with being uncomfortable. Putting out an apology in a tweet that's 140 characters or however many characters they have now is worth absolutely nothing. I'm growing increasingly tired of a lot of things, the apology culture being one of them. **** that, don't apologize. It doesn't do anything these days. Would anyone here feel better about Tucker Carlson if he apologized? No. Would anyone believe it? No. The sad thing is, he won't lose sponsors, this will just rile up the base even more.
  10. I'm getting the hang of it, TTB! Basically, nothing really matters. Until it matters.
  11. I hate Fox. I hate Tucker Carlson. And while there's truth in jest (in this case, I am speaking about how Tucker Carlson probably really views people...not just women, but people), there's got to be some sort of..for lack of a better term... social contract here when someone calls into a shock jock/comedy radio show. It's the same as going to a standup comedy show, you need to put your social values aside and realize you might be offended, or hear something that's offensive to others. I've heard bits and pieces of Bubba the Love Sponge before. It sucks. It's bad radio. I'm gonna pull a @TryTheBeal! here and act like "What's the big deal?"...because...what is the big deal? The guy probably gave a glimpse into how he really feels but...is anyone surprised? Why is this news? **** man, we're really going down the ****ter when radio calls from 10 years ago into the Bubba the Love Sponge show is making news.
  12. I'm curious about how Cobb does with a full ST. I wondered last year how much of his slow start was him performing poorly vs. missing most of ST. Things I'm looking forward to this year, in no particular order: Yusniel Diaz getting called up Austin Hays getting called up Updates on DL Hall, Gray-Rod, Mountcastle throughout the summer. Does Mountcastle make his debut? Richie Martin at SS - is he a Rule 5 steal? Renato Nunez at 3B - the defense is suspect but his bat should play Drew Jackson - seems like he could be another rule 5 steal, too A full season of Villar (until they trade him, at least), he's fun to watch #1 pick and what Elias decides to do with it Getting rid of Trumbo, somehow, some way. Even though his contract is up at the end of the year, he's clogging the roster Getting rid of Davis somehow - this has to happen. By all accounts he's looked like dog**** this spring, there's no chance he can be a productive player. They can't let him play out the rest of this contract. Something has to give. And he's already ****ing hurt, too. Trade deadline deals, seeing Elias shape the future of the club. Unfortunately, I can't say I am looking forward to any of the pitching. Maybe except Givens.
  13. That's true, and that's a good way to look at it. This team should be better to watch from an athletic perspective. They should play better defense. I hate our starters, though. I think Cobb might be decent but Bundy looks terrible this spring and Cashner is always awful. Bundy has a great start followed by a terrible one. He's a #3 starter.
  14. http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/26190275/new-philadelphia-phillie-bryce-harper-rejecting-300-million-recruiting-mike-trout-playing-philly-life Mixed reactions here. I feel what he's saying...he's correct, that's all everyone ever talked about while he was here, him going to the Yankees, the Dodgers, etc. IMO, he didn't do anything to provide evidence that he felt that way, I think that was a lot of people projecting. OTOH, he also didn't really do anything to make it look like he really wanted to be here, either.
  15. Inclined to agree. However, the one wild card here is the analytics. I don't believe analytics is going to be a magic wand to increase player productivity but it might make some of our guys perform better than expected. That said, I think this is a 100 loss team. I'd love to be wrong, however.
  16. Terrible news. Buckhantz is one of the best. I like Kara Lawson, she's solid...but Chenier was great. If the Wizards are gonna suck, at least have good broadcasters.
  17. Look at Huffpost laugh shaming everyone for what we laughed at back in the day in regards to MJ
  18. Always thought MJ was the gold standard for a person who did terrible stuff, yet people ignored it. Even now, there are pro MJ people who are protesting this documentary, like Corey Feldman (who cares, I know) is defending him.
  19. Anyone been watching the MJ documentary? I don't have HBO, but apparently its pretty tough to watch.
  20. A tiny bit of schadenfreude at the Lakers right now.
  21. Started Breaking Bad again. I think it's like a fine wine, it just gets better with age.
  22. Following up on this like 9 months later... Went and got breakfast there with a buddy that Saturday morning and it was damn tasty. Sitting at the counter finishing a coke while he was finishing his meal, I got up to go to the restroom and...as soon as I stood up, I knew I was gonna hurl. I couldn't get there fast enough. The restroom was only about 30 feet away and I got there as fast as I could. 5 more feet, I wouldn't have made it. I hit the door and projectile vomited all over that mother****er. Have you ever thrown up so hard and far that, mid hurl, you're like, "damn, that's actually kind of impressive"? That was me. I hit the toilet from across the bathroom. Haven't been back since. My buddy walked out of there completely fine.
