  1. Isn't Mark Ingram older than game of football itself? Surely, there's got to be options with more in the tank. Heck, we used to sign guys off the street who were effective. Say no to brand name running backs. I think the real question here is do you get more bang out of keeping Ionadis or signing Payne to a long term deal. Seems Payne regressed last year. Of course, everyone else on D did too.
  2. The Rams and Bengals are in many ways polar opposites. The Bengals are, for the most part, a homegrown team built on draft picks. The Rams are as close to a real-life fantasy football team as you can get and they can get off my lawn. The whole team is built on trades and free agency. It's not as clean cut as that, but it is why I hope the Bengals win. I'm just not a fan of super-teams full of mercenaries. Maybe that's because we couldn't pull it off when Dan tried to do it so many times in the 2000's.
  3. The problem with the do-it-later plan is that we have shown that we are good enough to win seven games starting a backup QB and we are good enough to win seven games starting a one-legged QB. Neither of those will ever get you one of the top three picks. So, whatever year you choose to roll the dice, it's going to have to be a part of a trade up package. That's what makes trading for a vet QB problematic. If you think the trade nets you a guy who can lead you deep into the playoffs for a few years and make you a Superbowl contender through 2025, it's worth it. If you think the QB only has one to three prime years left and you give up assets to get him that preclude you from getting the draft pick then it isn't worth it. In other words, I'm more okay with trading multiple firsts to land a top tier QB that makes us a contender than I am trading a second or third to make us competitive. Making us competitive is running in quicksand.
  4. It's like throwing a surprise birthday party and inviting the ex without knowing they just broke up. On the other hand, could there be a more Washington name than the Washington Committee or the Washington Pencil Pushers?
  5. I seem to remember people talking up Stafford quite a bit at this time last year even though it looked clear that he was going to be traded. This year, in relatively similar circumstances, it looks like there is quite a bit of energy going into talking Wilson down. I will say, early in his career, it seemed whenever we were in the playoffs, he was there to ruin it.
  6. I kinda think Rivera was trying for a true rebuild. In his first year, Washington signed no big time free agents and let the roster ride plus a few one year contracts. The team surprised everyone by overachieving. So, in year 2, they tried to build on what what they had, but the team regressed largely because of bad signings, sophomore slumps, injuries, and the difficulty of playing an entire season with your third string QB (maybe your back up QB) as starter.
  7. Think it's odd to create a five-year plan when the average career of an NFL player is three years.
  8. The guy's name is Zappe. There's no way he runs that slowly. If he did his name would be Fizzle.
  9. Maybe I don't pay that much attention, but I don't remember such a high number of interceptions in a Pro Bowl before. Six picks in one game is a lot.
  10. I'm never sure if it's the talent evaluation that's off or the teaching. After all, perennially good teams tend to stay on top and find great players despite picking in the twenties. So, I sometimes think that's it's not an issue of identifying talent, but maximizing it.
  11. It doesn't mean much, but it's crazy that every Pro Bowl QB got intercepted in yesterday's exhibition... errr Pro Bowl.
  12. Interestingly, I think one of the factors will be Dan Snyder himself. If all of his controversies blow over I think he will feel freer about instituting a change. If lawsuits and the NFL are weighing him down, he may not want to get rid of the guy with the sterling rep.
  13. CommandoGirl is here to save the day!
  14. This agreement between Washington and the NFL not to disclose any findings without the agreement of both parties really rubs me wrong.
  15. So, you're saying you wouldn't want Bezos as an owner because he wouldn't meddle? The picture being painted is of someone who would buy an NFL team like one would a piece of art, donate it to a museum so that the docents can take care of it. Are people really saying they wouldn't want the world's richest man to buy a team and then hire football people to run it?
  16. I haven't followed it super closely either, but I get the sense that this is one story among many. Certainly there were enough stories for Goodell to proclaim the Redskins a toxic culture.
  17. Snyder really isn't fit to rep something something so embedded into a community. I realize an NFL team is private property, but it's also a public trust.
  18. I don’t want to get into the name issue, but one reason I stood behind the name is because so many Native Americans did and they are the ones who have the best right to have a say. I also think a major difficulty with this is that on this issue we treat Native Americans as one culture with on set of experiences. They are not. They are a heterogeneous group of peoples. Some viewed Redskins as an honorific. Others differently. That discussion in pro football is over now.
  19. I can support that. Honestly, I can support any decision. This team has tested us in so many ways. It has pulled at us ethically, in terms of losing, in terms of scandals, in terms of money, in terms of time, and anyone who says, "That's it! Enough!" has the right to say it. They even have the right to come back no questions asked if they change their mind later. More, I get it. Like I said in the OP, I think what attaches us to a team isn't really the wins, but the community, the traditions, and most of all the stories. If those stories and traditions now feel cut off for you then it's hard to stay with the team. Just know, you always have a friend waiting if you come back. Heck, you have a friend if you don't come back
  20. This kind of reminds of me how much fun people made of the Ravens as a name when it first came out. People were like, "It's a dirty scavenger bird! Nothing noble about it!" Some kind of liked the Poe connection. RIght now, I think it's one of the better names. At least I never hear anyone hate on it.
  21. No. I think that cutting all relationships (at least namewise) was a very high priority in this process. It may ultimately have been why nothing in the animal kingdom made the cut.
  22. Not an excuse really. This was a planned event. Washington picked the day. It could have been any day or any week. They could have picked a time where the coach could represent.
  23. Rivera not being there for the reveal is really weird to me. The coach is always the face of the franchise. Why assemble a group that doesn’t include: The coach The GM The owner They trotted out the second bananas. They really are bad at managing these things. As for the name… I’m okay with it. It doesn’t sound bad. It doesn’t inspire or excite, but it’s okay.
