  1. Wow. Way too young. What a life he lived. He got to the top of the mountain in college football, got to experience the NFL, and the joys of fatherhood. There was turbulence, too, all lives contain them, but as with any life taken by accident. The saddest thing is the potential lost and the pain of those who are left behind to mourn him.
  2. I'm with ya. The positive spin is that Wentz should realize this is his final shot and should be hungry to prove himself. The downside is that he got outplayed by a much less talented Foles in Philly and probably a less talented Foles. In Indy, they were willing to trade him with no replacement in sight for nothing.
  3. I'm okay at being overwhelmed. In his first two years, Rivera's biggest swings at bat have been sketchy. His bunts are great. Rivera has had more success with his one-year prove it free agents then anyone signed to a long term contract.
  4. It's interesting the shift on Apke. I remember how pissed most seemed to be that he made the roster last year.
  5. I don't think any QB has ever worked over the NFL for such mediocre results. Cousins may lead his team to mediocre results, but if anyone knows how to truly win off the field... it's him. All stats. No results. The man knows how to get paid.
  6. I dunno. Look how much our production went down when we lost McKissic. Now, Wentz probably won't look to JD as much as Heinike did, but our offense went from pretty good to DOA after he went out.
  7. I dunno. If we go 7-8 wins with Wentz after making no moves, we are saying Wentz is a worse QB than Hienike. After all, Heinike will have gotten us 7 wins with a significantly harder schedule. If QBs matter, then Wentz should raise the floor to 9 wins all by himself.
  8. On paper, it really does look pretty good. We're going to have a hole at right guard, but guards are usually easier to fill in. I like Thomas and Bates as the tight ends. I like the potential of McLaurin, Samuel, Brown, and Milne as receivers. Gibson should do better if defenses can't stack the box. The o-line also appears fairly solid if players come back from injury. There are questions. Some of them are BIG questions. We have no idea how Samuels comes back and what he contributes. Same with Thomas. Same with Roullier. We don't know if Brown and Milne can take that sophomore step forward. So, there's still work to do, but the cupboard has a bunch of the ingredients needed to be successful if the offensive coordinator can set the right menu and the QB can execute the cook.
  9. (mod edit religious content---report inappropriate content per rule, do not extend the original rule violation by adding to it---one week ban for rule 6 & 18 violation)
  10. Frankly, I think Goodell would love to punish Snyder for how he embarrassed him and made his life more difficult with Congress. Therefore, I think Goodell would throw the book at Watson much harder if he signed in Washington than anywhere else. By doing this, he could claim the NFL is TOUGH on sexual harassment while not creating an owner precedent. Goodell would be getting his cake and eating it too.
  11. Part of being a pro is being to put a good face on things. I don’t know if there was greater context or large portions of that speech cut out, but this was Wentz speaking to the public. One of the knocks against him is his poor leadership skills. This is not how you introduce yourself.
  12. That quote above from Wentz makes me think he’s really unhappy about coming to DC.
  13. I was thinking of that as a contender. Another one might be Mike Ditka trading his entire draft to the Redskins for the right to draft RIcky Williams.
  14. Boy Wentz has been involved in a lot of trades. I wonder if he's the record holder for most picks exchanged? I count 8. Nine if you consider the swap of seconds countable. Wentz trade history: Eagles traded for the ability to draft Wentz. Eagles gave up The No. 8 pick in 2016, the No. 77 pick (third round) in 2016, the No. 100 pick (fourth round) in 2016, a 2017 first-rounder and a 2018 second-rounder. Then, the Eagles received a first round pick from the Colts for their one year rental. Then, the Colts got swapped 2nd rounder, a third rounder and a conditional third rounder.
  15. You're right. When I wrote that I thought this was the last year of his contract because all the talk was about how Washington could walk away next year without penalty.
  16. The acquisition of Carson Wentz isn’t going to sell jerseys or tickets. So, that means this is a football move and not a marketing move. As I said yesterday, it feels more like a lemonade move than a desperation move. I think Rivera and the front office decided this was their best non-marquee guy and that they needed to get it done. The salary cap hit hurts a bit, but it’s foolish to think you can get a starter at backup money. I think the draft pick cost is okay.
  17. Boy, this morning's Washington Post is almost as negative as ES. The contrarian in me thinks that might be a really good sign.
