  1. Nah, it's not. It's still running and passing and blocking and tackling. The wheel hasn't been completely reinvented. I'll give you that the rules have gotten a significant (can't decide between upgrade and downgrade) so that offensive players have it much, much easier than they used to, but it's still slants and curls and posts. Gibbs ran a ton of three receiver sets in 1987. People have been in shotgun for a long time. QBs were used in the running game since the 1800's. It's not a completely different game. Anymore than a Mackintosh is a completely different kind of apple.
  2. I guess I'd have to ask why Tribusky was so inaccurate and is this something that the Bills' coaches could have corrected because if not I don't know that he is a real upgrade. He's Heinike with a better arm, but less pocket presence, worse leadership, and probably worse ability to read the field.
  3. First of all, Washington can’t get Watson. They’re under the stink of sexual harassment allegations themselves and even Goodell seems pissed at them about it. 2nd it’s clear Watson will never play again for his current team. Given that, the salary hit, and all the suits against him any team trying to trade for him at a premium or market value is stupid. You offer a basement offer and dare the team to keep him and pay him for nothing two years in a row. After all, any team that trades for Watson is doing Houston a huge favor.
  4. I sometimes look at myself in the mirror and ask these same questions. What does it say about me if I support a team that allegedly does all these terrible things? It's easy to pick on Doug in this instance, but aren't we as Extreme Fans all living in glass houses?
  5. Interestingly, I just looked at two mock drafts and both have Washington picking the first QB off the board at 11. I know mocks don't mean much, but I think if they really believe that's the way it would play out that I'd go the draft route. Edit: And then the third mock had four QBs taken by 11. lol
  6. I think the difference is that you don't really want to go enter the used car dealership screaming about how desperate you are to need a car and that you will pay anything to get one. It kind of hurts your negotiating position and makes it likely that you'll overpay. It's fine to let them know you are serious, but you shouldn't start bidding against yourself. Thankfully, Rivera and co are not as bad as ES itself. On ES, the starting price for trading for every QB available including Wentz seems to be three number ones with a wink that tells the seller that's just for starters.
  7. I think it is. Three first rounders should be reserved for sure fire Hall of Famers. Until last year, Carr's rep was sinking. I imagine he's good, but I don't know that he's on that Brady, Rodgers level.
  8. I agree with a lot of what you're saying about Heinike. What flashes in my mind are all the wide open bombs that turned into 50-50 balls and the inability to throw flares to the running back with just his arm. That said, Heinike does have strong leadership qualities. He can lead a comeback. He does read a defense well. He's got everything you want except for the rocket arm. In a way, he reminds me of Rex Grossman. So many of Rex's bad throws were actually great ideas that he just didn't have the arm to complete. Heinike and Rex both knew what to do with the ball, but their bombs too often fell short or lacked the velocity to make it through the tight windows. Mind you, I think Taylor is actually a rich man's Rex Grossman. That's why I don't really want to sign a Tribusky or Garopolo. I think Heinke can be a starting QB. I think he'd be around the 25th best. My guess is that Goropolo pushes you up to 12-15 and Tribusky rates around 18 (I'm pulling these numbers out of my.... ) Is having the fifteenth best QB worth the money and loss of draft picks? Maybe? Is fifteen good enough? Probably not. And that's why if I couldn't get someone I really believed would propel Washington deep into the playoffs then I would rather stay with Heinike and get the best rookie I can. I do think Heinike has proven he's an NFL starter. He's just below average and I don't know if some of the things he can't do is fixable.
  9. I still say Watson is a no-go for Washington. Washington itself is under a sexual harassment cloud that is just beginning to unfold. The team can't say they are being serious about culture change and trade for someone with 22 complaints about them filed in court. Sure, Dan and Deshaun can go out to a strip club for a beer, but that's about as far as their relationship can go.
  10. I don't know that I'd want Baker Mayfield. Maybe I don't follow closely enough, but I keep hearing the Brown's are ready to explode and they keep being the Browns. I'm not sure he has the qualities you need for a premier QB. I'd also expect that he'd be pretty pricy. Just did a quick look at his stats. His career accuracy is in the low 60's. His TD:INT is not that great either. Comp% Yards TD INT Rating 2021 Browns 60.5 3,010 17 13 83.1 2020 Browns 62.8 3,563 26 8 95.9 2019 Browns 59.4 3,827 22 21 78.8 2018 Browns 63.8 3,725 27 14 93.7
  11. Before my time, but I got to meet him going to the games a few times. Seemed like a great guy. Based on clips and stats, he was amazing. 80 is too young.
  12. If there's one there are others. One thing that strikes me though with the Dallas settlement is that this misbehavior may be all too common across the NFL and maybe that's why Goodell seems to be impotent.
  13. I think the only thing that would frustrate me is if we go with a mid-tier vet and call it a day. If we get Mariota, Tribusky, Garropola, and don't keep our number one which we use to draft a QB I'll be frustrated. I won't be frustrated if we trade a boatload for Wilson. Trade a boatload to get whoever we decide is the best rookie in the draft. Trade a raftload for Carr. Get a steady vet and a high potential rookie. I'd even be okay with bypassing a rookie qb and any sort of vet if we think that we can stink enough to get a QB that we love that much more next year. I've suffered for twenty years. I can suffer for twenty-two.
  14. But we're not a 4-6 win team. We are clearly a 7 win team and very much a borderline one and done playoff team right now. It's not hard to imagine a better QB pushing us into that 9 or 10 win spectrum or a good QB getting us there. Heck, Heinike would have got us to the playoffs if we hadn't lost half the team to Covid and lost Samuel, Thomas for the season and McKissic for half a season. In fact, I bet if just McKissic stayed healthy (and didn't have the Covid implosion) we would have been in the playoffs.
  15. Maybe. But it also wouldn't surprise me if Ron took the job knowing that he had a first round QB that was taken just one year earlier who by all accounts was considered talented, but very raw. It is hard to give up on a first rounder sight unseen who's only had about half a season worth of games under his belt and actually did flash a little towards the end. I remember most of ES was convinced that Haskins would wind up being the better QB between him and Daniel Jones (not that that wound up meaning all that much).
  16. I split the middle. I don’t know that I think hiring Scott Turner was the way to go. The fact that he pulled a pretty competent offense from Heinike speaks well for him. However, I’m not convinced he can be great. on the other hand, I don’t think letting O’Connell was a mistake. He truly showed almost nothing while he was here. There wasn’t a great reason to believe that he was special.
  17. Haven't been following this thread, but I do remember that Snyder was the first NFL owner to send direct support to Haiti after a major natural disaster. I think he has used Redskins1 more than a few times to rush aid. Mind you, I think that doesn't negate all the bad he's done, but it's just something I seem to remember.
  18. So, what you are saying is that we had the most games played against a team coming off a bye or half bye on top of having the leagues most difficult schedule... and that wasn't a hardship.
  19. Winston is not known for his decision making. He was better known for his turnovers. Given that, I'm not sure he would make a great mentor. I might be totally wrong about that though. I don't know. He's already gone through two coaching staffs. It'd be a tough sell except on the very cheap to give him his last shot.
  20. Washington cannot sign Watson. Not with the sexual harassment cloud over the team and not with fresh allegations against the owner. Even Snyder isn’t that PR dumb. It’d be tripling down and calling the NFL impotent.
  21. I'd certainly demand some kind of commitment from Murray if we traded for him. It'd be too easy for him to walk away otherwise. I guess an addendum is that if Murray leaves to play baseball, the Cardinals would have to return all draft picks and take Dan Snyder off our hands.
  22. Conditional 7th rounder for Murray that turns into a third rounder if Washington makes the playoffs, two firsts if they make it to the Championship game and three firsts if Washington wins a Super Bowl.
  23. The name scares the heck out of me. It's just mocking fate. The guy was born to be a turnover machine. I'd want a cornerback named Pickett not a QB
