looking at it like that including the dt form the pick isnt fair evalution of the front office , because going into trade coles said and acting with the best behavior. no one could tell that he was going to become such a greedy whining baby and run himself out of town.

First, we still don't know all the details of the Coles trade. Coles may have had to give up some signing bonus to make the trade happen.

I can't believe the press never called out Coles and his agent on this situation. Coles claims that Gibbs promised to release him. That is the equivalent of buying a house, making payments for 10 years, and then letting someone just assume the payments and keep your equity. There is no way that Gibbs would agree to a deal like that.

2nd: The Jets had to give up another 1st rounder to draft Robertson at #4, so it wasn't a straight Coles for Robertson deal back in 2003.

Gibbs is cleaning up some of the excesses of past moves. Coles while a very good receiver in 2002 didn't deserve a top 3 bonus at the WR position. We would never make that move now, but that is in the past.

Gibbs' task was to move a player who has a degenerative toe condition and get something of value in return for 2005.

I was somewhat surprised that the Jets agreed to guarantee almost $15 million for Coles in the first three years of his new deal.

I think he is at risk for a shortened career.

The Redskins matched the Pierce bonus but were not willing to guarantee him as much in salary plus bonus for the first 2 years of his contract so he is now a Giant.

But $6.5 million for a guy who has started for ONE season at a new position is a bit of a gamble itself.

the Redskins paid $7 million for Trotter, but he had already been a two-time pro bowl selection and 4 year starter for the playoff Eagles.

What Gibbs has done is remove guys with physical questions (Coles) and attitude/performance issues (Gardner) from the previous regime and try and get something of value for them on their way out the door.

Coles' bonus acceleration against the cap was inevitable IMO as he refused to have surgery to correct his foot problem.

It was either a hit to be taken in 2005 or later in 2006 or 2007.

With the Samuels restructuring the money became available to do this now and save dollars for 2006.

We could have matched Pierce, we chose not to. And I agree 100%. Watch, Pierce will be the next Trotter. Its not a coincidence that G Williams comes in, and suddenly each and every linebacker excels. Marshall, Pierce, Clemons, Washington...the only one worth his salt before this year was Washington. You think the other 3 magically are just superstars? Excellent move by the Skins.

As for losing Smoot, that has yet to be seen. Not only that, but the Robertson argument is ridiculous. AND we lose Coles cap hits in the coming years. A big cap hit for a guy that is on the decline with a busted toe that undoubtedly affects his performance...lets get real, Coles is not the guy he used to be.

Nevermind that, we get Moss, a guy who has shown the ability to be a star, a guy with tremendous talent and a huge upside...as well as a small contract.

We unload money, a disgruntled injured receiver who is taking a valuable spot on the depth chart...and get a young, healthy, talented cheap receiver in return. And we still have plenty of cap room left to sign our picks, Smoot and a few others if we wanted.

Not only that, dont blame Snyder for Brunell...he didnt want it to go down. That was Joey G's move. And Bailey was a great move as well...I dont know why we have to keep getting beat up over this. The stats say it in terms of which teams improved. We say it, because we know Bailey wanted out and we wouldnt have gotten anything for him. Sure, the 2nd rd wasnt ideal, but if thats what it took to get a 22yr old RB with 2 1500 yd seasons and all the potential in the world...Ill take it.

Dont be so hard on our guys, especially when the outcome of this seasons odd free agency period hasnt even been determined. For once, we're not overspending on anyone and everyone,...lets see where it takes us.

we did not "give away" a first round" pick.. we traded for Coles with that pick.

We couldn't have gotten him otherwise.. now we are trading him for a former first round pick (and maybe more after the trade details are posted)

Coles is "NOT" the same WR he was when we first obtained him... his toe injury has made him less of a playmaker. On the surface it may look like we got the short end of the deal, but after the details come out... and we see how each player produces in their new offense .. we will see exactly whom got the better end of the deal.

Last year everyone said the Bronco's fleeced us... but at the end of the year.. many where saying it was an even swap, some even think the Skins actually got the better end of the deal. :)

Just thought this needed to be repeated.

Maybe the mods will put a sticky of this one quote on the front page for everyone to read :)

Essentially it's #13 for Santana Moss. Is it a bit much? Probably, but Coles didn't want to be here and we got a productive #2 WR and electrifying punt returner.

Gibbs and co. made the best out of a bad situation. Besides, the money the Jets are coughing up in the 1st 3 years of this deal is beyond stupid considering Coles' toe situation.

Bsmsss At one time you were not DlyJoe. Give up on the Skins then, but don't spread your negativty everywhere. It gets old. Wait until Coles toes ends his career prematurely. This was a great trade. Wasnt you elsewhere saying Coles toe was a huge deal?

Yes, I'm surprised no one has brought it up.

One of Moss' recent quotes suggests he feels the Redskins are going to make him a big part of the offence.

Remains to be seen.

If he catches 90 passes... is that going to make him happy?

Even without Coles whining, he hasn't been worth what he was given. Did he play hard? yes But he is what he is. A hard worker on the field but I still don't feel he was worth what the Skins paid for him. Now with this. He wasn't worth the a cup of DOO DOO. :puke:

Actually, if you look at it that way it's Roberson for Moss.

Of course that doesn't take into account that we also got a pro-bowl season out of Coles as well.

I don't know who get's the better end of that deal. Moss doesn't strike me as a 'sure thing.' He could seriously crash and burn here. I never felt that way about Coles.
