  1. 1. Will new pass interference emphasis ruin NFL defenses?

    • Yea, football is a contact sport. Pretty soon they are going to ban jamming the reciever at the line.

    • No, it will balance out. (more offensive PI)

    • No it will balance out because both offenses will be able to score alot of points. Who cares about defense anyway?

We don't need that here.

I don't think Gibbs would even consider it if he thought the team's chemistry would be hurt. We won't see Douglas in burgundy and gold unless Gibbs thinks he's a team player.

I trust King Joe on this one. If he thinks he's a team player, and a valuable addition, then reel him in. Otherwise, good luck with the eagles buddy. :D

Just like with Brackens, we shouldn’t even give this guy a second look. The Jags have a D line that is as weak as ours is, so if they cut a starter from last year from it, there is a reason for it!

Pass.

Are you kidding me? The Jags actually have a pretty good D-line. I think they were tops in the league against the rush. Their ends weren't the best, but they got the job done. It's their secondary that stinks.

We shouldn't walk away... we should run away. He's a prima dona loafing it for the last few years. He should have worn a mask this year... because he stole money from the Jags.

Guys..... we want overachieving fighters on our team... not used up money stealers.

Hugh...welcome back to Philly!

No Way!! He has been on that Jaguar Summer show on the NFL network. He acts like he had the job sewn up! Bet he ends up back in Philly!

I saw him on this show as well. He was calling Jack Del Rio "Dawg" and "Dude" to his face. He was so far up Del Rios a**, I'm sure they had to surgically remove him before they released him.

I say sign him. He'll have two good games for us. Both Eagle games. Also, with Kalu out, the Eagles will be looking for help and anything we can do to block them is a plus.

And he can't get anywhere near the qb -- we already have plenty of those guys.

After just reading about his play during the preseason, I'm starting to agree. Maybe he's not the best for the team. Gibbs will look at it for sure.

I know somebody did not compare the Jags D line to ours:doh: They have one of the best young DT's in the game and their DL was one of their strenghts last year. As far as Hugh he is good if used right anybody notice how much he was on the sidelines when in philly?????????????????????? He was a situational pass rusher and had a lot of rest. Philly gets the most out of role players and then stupid personell dept.'s pick these guys up Trotter cough cough and dont use them to the players strengths:doh:

Douglas is an incredibly classy motivator, who, if used effectively could still generate a good number of sacks. He would need to be used as a situational pass rusher though. He wouldn't start if he came back to Philly. Burgess or McDougle would start in Kalu's place (one would have probably started instead of Kalu anyway). I wouldn't mind having Hugh as the 4th or 5th DE on the team instead of Ron Johnson or Green though.

The Skins have to at least take a look. If he still has something at the minimum, he could be helpful. Against the Rams, the first team D forced a lot of 3rd and longs but the Rams found ways to convert. HD could help change that.

Some here think the Jags let him go, so he must be awful. Don't get confused, HD was awful for the $ they were paying. They cut him now and take the cap charge while the Jags are young, so they have ammo in '06 and '07.

The Eagles will have some interest as well. HD could be a situational pass rusher and/or backup Burgess. Also, provides some insurance if the China Doll (Kearse) goes down. BF Reid would prefer not to have to play McDougle.

I'm guessing Arizona may be the first to pick Hugh up off of waivers. Arizona has been bringing in people off of waivers and recently lost DE Wakefield for a good while. Maybe?

I don't think the Skin's will show much interest, I'm not :D

My thoughts exactly, he's already got the big bonus money that he left Philly to get. Why not walk in there now and play as a situational pass-rusher for the league minimum for vets and count only the "is it 375,000" against the cap that the league agreed to. What a break for the Eagles.

Anyone know the official rule in regards to Douglas clearing waivers and teams picking up his current contract? Art?

Waiver System in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Section 1. Release:

(a) Whenever a player who has finished the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers between February 1 and the trading deadline, his contract will be considered terminated and the player will be completely free at any time thereafter to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period. If the waivers occur after that time, the player’s Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club. However, if such player is claimed and awarded, he shall have the option to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the League Year in question if he has a no-trade clause in his Player Contract. If such player does not have a no-trade clause and the Player Contract being awarded through waivers covers more than one additional season, the player shall have the right to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent as set forth above at the end of the League Year following the League Year in which he is waived and awarded.

(B) Whenever a player who has finished less than the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers, the player’s Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club.

..I believe Hugh is free to negotiate w/ any team he would like to...

Hugh has 10 years in the league so league minimum for him is 750K but only 450K will count against the signing team's salary cap. That really gives the Eagles an edge if they want him[i hope I hope] because if a team offers $1 more than 750K the total amount would count against their cap. On the Eagle's board there's a post from a guy who runs another board who is supposed to have some contacts that Hugh's agent has already been contacted by both the Eagles and the Skins.

To me, signing Hugh Douglas AT THIS POINT IN HIS CAREER, would be like having Bruce Smit back all over again......HOWEVER, with Gibbs as a head coach and Greg Williams as the D-coordinator, it could be an entirely different situation. For the first time in a long time, I can honestly say, whatever the COACHES decide, I agree with. :)

First of all let me say that I don't think that Hugh, after working hard all summer to getting back into fighting weight will sign for the Vet. Min. Especially after getting a 6 Mil SB last season.

Regarding the move, I Guess Jack thinks he has a solid DE who can emerge along side Spicer in the form of either Green and McCray. All things being equal you go with upside players.

Jags were using the 3-4 last week.

From this news it appears that Jack would rather have LB's Peterson, Ayodele, Favors, Hendricks, and Smith out there than Hugh.

Tackling, Youth, and Speed are what Jack appears to be looking for. Now that we have adequate enough depth in the secondary, it appears that Jack can now afford to slot Akin Ayodele in as our pass rushing specialist; something he wanted to do last season but couldn't afford because of the lack of depth in the secondary.

The beauty of it is that he's already going to keep all of that SB money from your Jags. Whether he views all the working out as worth the battle of negotiations to try and land the big contrat again remains to be seen. I'd say he'll probably play for vet min for Philly this year and try his hand again at FA next season. Of course, he may not be happy with Philly's front office because of his exit last time. And of course, there is the Danny factor. But I think the Skins are a little tight to the cap to get crazy with him and Coach Gibbs also has stated that the team we've seen is the team we've got. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

Hugh is not in a position to get the best market value for his services. Hugh was cut during the "cutting season" and other players at his position, some could be better than he, will be cut also. At this stage in the game Hugh must take a deal he thinks is fair and move with it.

Tell Chris Samuels that his "DADDY" is coming back home!

I'm assuming that he will be an Eagle again, but none of us our assuming that he will be the great pass rusher he once was ....we'll see how Samuels "Daddy" holds up against the counter trey.:D
