The Jacksonville Jaguars have shifted their youth movement into another gear.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Jaguars today will release veteran Pro Bowl pass rusher Hugh Douglas just one year after the defensive end signed a large free-agent package with the team.

Jaguars officials said they wanted more youth and speed rushing the edges and didn't think Douglas' situation with the team would get any better.

It's not clear yet who will replace Douglas in the starting lineup. The Jaguars are expected the move later today.

During his nine-year career with the Jets, Eagles and Jaguars, Douglas has totaled 77 sacks.

I think he's not what we need. We need speed, and he's all out of it. He's had issues with his knees too.

I say sign him to an incentive laden contract. this guy didn't go from a stud with the eagles to renaldo wynn overnight. Just got lazy. Incentives could be just the ticket.

no no no. the eagles obviously deserve credit for guessing right on this one. he got his big contract and has been phoning it in ever since. he came in out of shape his first season after signing with the Jags. they shouldn't just cut him, they should beat him and take his money!!!!

Jax has very little pass rush so if Hugh Doug had anything left, you'd have to think that the Jags would have kept him around. Pass.

Just like with Brackens, we shouldn’t even give this guy a second look. The Jags have a D line that is as weak as ours is, so if they cut a starter from last year from it, there is a reason for it!

This guy is the DE equivalent of what Dana Stubblefield was here for us. A guy that got a big fat contract, and has rested on his laurels ever since. Phoning in every play and letting every little nick and cut keep him out of the line-up.

We don't need that here.

He'd be a good vet to have in the locker room and maybe he still has some gas in the tank. If we can take Bruce Smith we can take Douglas. I'm sure Gibbs will look at it and make the right decision.
