What's the best (or worst) Christmas or year-end bonus you've ever gotten?

 

I think it was so forgettable, that I don't remember what it was.  Something like a meager gift card.  Although there were some years where there was no bonus.

 

This was inspired by the following story:

 

Hospital staff get baked potato as a 'Christmas bonus' from work

 

‘Tis the season to celebrate our loved ones, and also for employers to show how much they care.

 

Whether by throwing a Christmas bash or handing out extra cash, businesses around the world are broadly expected to offer their dedicated staff a festive token of their appreciation.

 

And who deserves more recognition than the workers who keep our healthcare systems afloat?

 

Yet, the senior management team at one hospital apparently decided that rather than boost their staff’s pay or treat them to a slap-up meal, they would provide them with…

 

Potatoes.

 

The questionable move was broadcast to social media by an X/Twitter user who calls herself Amanda B.

 

She explained dejectedly: “My work is doing a potato bar as our Christmas bonus. I’m literally getting a hospital potato as a bonus.”

 

She then added: “They also said it has a $15 (£11.85) value so it will be taxed on our next check. Does anyone need an assistant so I can just quit right now?”

At my first job, a small company of less than 100 people, we got christmas bonuses a few years in a row. Small bonuses but it was nice and we were part of it. Then one year we didn't. We were told money was tight. Well sure enough, the owner comes rolling up in a brand new $75k+ truck (at the time that was absurdly expensive) and parks it right in front of the main entrance, DIRECTLY in front of the walkway to show off his new toy to everyone. It was a slap in the face to say the least.

Once received an 18" plastic Spiderman. It didn't move. Arms at it's sides, standing.

I did though. I figured if my work was worth a 7 dollar toy you can't even play with, well, fa-la-la-la-**** off.

Best holiday bonus was my first year at my law firm. I had obviously just graduated from law school, had a ridiculous amount of debt, and had spent an entire summer unemployed studying for the bar exam living on credit cards. I was hired in September, first year Associates are worthless, and the firm owed me nothing. They gave me $35k out of just kindness and I legit cried because it vanished 90% of my problems in a stroke. My wife and I had been discussing whether we could afford a kid, and that bonus changed it from no to yes, in a day.
