I think defenses have been seeing the wr issue in KC for weeks and are comfortable putting even more players on covering Kelsey, even more often, while also increasing the pressures on Mahomes, and daring the wr unit to beat them. They get schemed open because it’s a great scheme and they get hit in the hands with the ball because Mahomes is fantastic, but the drop balls or worse, knock the ball up in the air for an INT. Funny thing is, its not really an average, every year he had 9 fumbles and lost 3. I think he's broken that record this year...well I'm just going to go ahead and say he did.
