It wouldn’t be a new college basketball season without one of the bluebloods getting caught cheating and “self imposing sanctions” that will have absolutely no negative impact whatsoever.

Bless their hearts. On day No. 1,863 since incriminating news broke pertaining to Kansas men’s basketball via the FBI, the school got around to acknowledging that, gosh, maybe it has some NCAA culpability here. Maybe the victimhood play had run its course.

Maybe head coach Bill “Just Gotta Get A Couple Real Guys” Self was more than just a naive sap hoodwinked by Adidas in the federal investigation of corruption in college basketball. Maybe assistant coach Kurtis Townsend—heard on an FBI wiretap saying, “We're going to have to do it some way,” in response to a list of impermissible benefits allegedly being sought by Zion Williamson—has some NCAA rule exposure as well. Maybe enlisting bagman T.J. Gassnola and sneaker execs James Gatto and Merl Code to help with recruiting could have some consequences. Maybe Gassnola paying player Billy Preston’s mom $89,000 could be a problem the school has to answer for.

Maybe, after five years of being anything but accountable, Kansas was sufficiently cornered that it has to do something with a head coach who was charged with one of five Level I violation levied at the Jayhawks. Not a lot, of course. But something.

On Wednesday, Kansas announced that Self and Townsend—each facing allegations of Level I NCAA rules violations—are suspended for the first four games of this 2022-23 season. The two also are prohibited from off-campus recruiting for four months. The school is reducing its scholarships by three over the next three years, implementing a six-week ban on recruiting communicates and unofficial visits and reducing permissible recruiting days by 13 during the 22-23 calendar year.
In reality, Self is missing one big game: Duke in the Champions Classic on Nov. 15 in Indianapolis. Kansas could pull a rando out of the Allen Fieldhouse stands to coach against the other three opponents—Nebraska Omaha, North Dakota State and Southern Utah—without risk of losing. A loss to the Blue Devils won’t be harmful come March. This will have precious little effect on the Jayhawks’ season.

Anywho, games start Monday.

Michigan State isn't ranked.  That's OK, since three of their first 4 games are against #2 Gonzaga, #4 Kentucky, and #16 Villanova they probably wouldn't have stayed ranked long anyway.  Here's to rooting for some upsets.

If nothing else, it has to help their strength of schedule.

Does Gonzaga even have a football team?

I think WVU has only 2 guys returning from last year's team.  Not 2 starters, 2 players.  Total.  10 new guys, plus one who was on the team 2 years ago, transferred out, then transferred back in.

Not since WW2. It'll would mostly be a basketball only add I think.

Hometown team and my alma mater travel up to Albucrackie to play the dreaded Lobos, our biggest rival.

Not what they meant by Aggie Lobo shootout.  18 year old was a Lobo player, 21 year old is (was) our starting power forward.  Game was postponed indefinitely.

Police stated that there was an altercation between a 19-year-old male and a 21-year-old male about 3 a.m. Saturday, and both sustained gunshot wounds.

Reminds me I should update the Aggie Lobo shootout story because it got thoroughly ridiculous.  Started at the Aggie Lobo football game earlier this year where a fight in the stands involved our player and the dead guy plus his buddies.  Our guy is 6' 8" 260lb so he and his crew beat the crap out of dead guy and his.  When we were up there to play bball, dead guy had his girl lure our guy out of his hotel room at 3am for a hookup.  Dead guy and his crew had set up an ambush to get back at our guy for the earlier ass whipping.  When dead guy pulled his piece and shot at our guy, our guy pulled his own piece and shot dead guy dead in self-defense.  Our guy will clearly be off the team when he gets out of the hospital in Albuquerque but at least he ain't dead.  Our traveling routine will obviously be tweaked some.  Crazy ****.

Major yikes.

Austin police told ESPN they received a "disturbance hotshot" call, and officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Vista Lane shortly after midnight Monday. The Austin Police Department's website defines a "hotshot" call as "incidents which are in progress are an immediate threat to life and/or public safety. ... These calls are dispatched immediately."
