Trump Commerce Boss Wilbur Ross Hoovered Up $53 Million While In Public Office

Donald Trump’s commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross, earned at least $53 million from private companies while he was collecting a taxpayer salary and supposed to be looking out for the public instead of his own profits.

Ross reported making somewhere between $53 million and $127 million during his four years as head of the Commerce Department. The federal government only requires officials to report broad ranges of outside income.

It’s possible that Ross earned “significantly more” since he was not required to specify certain income totals over $1 million, noted watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which reported Ross’ financial disclosure filings earlier this week.

Ross’ many and profitable entanglements with private companies while he was supposed to be looking out for the American taxpayer triggered concern and criticism.

“Even in an administration characterized by corruption, Ross became notorious for mixing personal business with his government role,” CREW said in a statement.

News of Ross’ income while serving in the Trump administration follows a bombshell report in The Washington Post last month that an “obscure” security office within the Commerce Department served as an aggressive “counterintelligence unit,” collecting information on hundreds of Americans, including the department’s own employees.

Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, MyPillow CEO due in court over election lawsuits

As Republicans around the country continue to rally around false claims of fraud in the 2020 election, three of former President Donald Trump's closest allies who helped push those false claims are scheduled to appear in court today for the first time as part of three defamation lawsuits filed against them.

Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, former Trump legal team member Sidney Powell, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell are scheduled to appear in court in Washington, D.C., for a hearing in the billion-dollar defamation lawsuits brought by Dominion Voting Systems, the voting machine company at the center of numerous conspiracy theories related to the election.

All three have filed motions asking a judge to throw out Dominion's suits against them, which Dominion has opposed. Thursday's hearing is set to hear arguments on the issue.

The FBI Searched the Home of a Rudy Giuliani Associate

FBI agents on Tuesday searched the California home of George Dickson III, a marijuana entrepreneur who last year partnered with Rudy Giuliani to line up financing for a never completed documentary aimed at advancing the former New York mayor’s bogus claims about Joe and Hunter Biden and Ukraine.

Asked about a search at Dickson’s address in Aptos, California, a spokesperson for the FBI’s San Francisco office on Thursday said they could “confirm the FBI was present at that location on Tuesday, June 22 to conduct court-authorized law enforcement activity.” The spokesperson declined to comment further “due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.”

Mother Jones could not confirm that the search was related to Dickson’s work with Giuliani. Dickson, the founder of a company that describes itself as “the world’s premier seed-to-consumer cannabis organization” and other ventures, did not respond to multiple email, text, and phone messages.

Dickson last year worked with Giuliani, then Trump’s personal lawyer, to secure investors for what they pitched as a documentary about Hunter and Joe Biden’s actions in Ukraine.

Documents Show Ivanka Trump Didn’t Testify Accurately in Inauguration Scandal Case

The Trump family has trouble with depositions. In 2007 testimony, Donald Trump was repeatedly shown to be a liar. In February, Donald Trump Jr. was deposed in the Trump inauguration scandal lawsuit, and on several key points, under oath, he provided false testimony. A review of documents filed in that case and other material obtained by Mother Jones shows that Ivanka Trump also testified inaccurately during her deposition in this lawsuit.

The inauguration probe was launched last year by Karl Racine, the attorney general of Washington, DC. He has alleged that Trump’s inauguration committee misused charitable funds to enrich the Trump family. As Racine put it, the lawsuit maintains “that the Inaugural Committee, a nonprofit corporation, coordinated with the Trump family to grossly overpay for event space in the Trump International Hotel… The Committee also improperly used non-profit funds to throw a private party [at the Trump Hotel] for the Trump family costing several hundred thousand dollars.” In short, the attorney general accused the Trump gang of major grifting, and he is seeking to recover the money paid to the Trump Hotel so those funds can be used for real charitable purposes.

During a December 1 deposition—in which she swore to tell the truth—Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of Donald Trump who was an executive at the Trump Organization before becoming a White House adviser to her father, was asked if she had any “involvement in the process of planning the inauguration.” She replied, “I really didn’t have an involvement.” Ivanka testified that if her “opinion was solicited” regarding an inauguration event, she “would give feedback to my father or to anyone who asked my perspective or opinion.” And that was as far as her participation went.

But this wasn’t accurate, according to the documents, which indicate she was part of the decision-making for various aspects of the inauguration, including even the menus for events.

One email chain shows that Ivanka Trump was directly involved in the planning of at least one proposed event for the inauguration.

Ivanka directly oversaw the failed Trump Tower Azerbaijani project that was just a money laundering exercise for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and it went unnoticed. Nobody in that family ever faces consequences.

Seriously, you think Ivanka is capable of even following an international money laundering scheme?

If you were setting up an international money laundering scheme, would you even let Ivanka in on it?

I'd be more inclined to believe "took 10% of the haul, in exchange for putting the family name on the stationary".  (And therefore providing a little cover for the scheme.)

Follow, no.  Do you think she didn't realize it was all a criminal scam, even if she were incapable of grasping the details? A luxury high rise in the middle of the worst part of town that never actually got built.

Giuliani being investigated over Turkish lobbying: Source

Former President Donald Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani is facing a federal inquiry over possible improper lobbying for Turkey, a source familiar with the matter told ABC News.

The Justice Department's inquiry is separate from the criminal investigation into Giuliani's activities in Ukraine, the source said.

Giuliani's actions first raised questions in 2017 when he was hired to represent Turkey-based, Iranian-born businessman Reza Zarrab in a money laundering and sanctions evasion case brought against Zarrab by the U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York.

Giuliani's law license in D.C. suspended

A D.C. appellate court has suspended Rudy Giuliani’s law license in the District of Columbia pending the outcome of further disciplinary proceedings in New York.

The Wednesday order from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals comes two weeks after the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court barred Giuliani for making false claims in court while aiding former President Trump’s failed attempts to challenge the 2020 election.

Giuliani is “suspended from the practice of law in the District of Columbia pending final disposition of this proceeding, effective on the date of entry of this order,” the order states.

The court also halted the proceeding pending the resolution of the disciplinary matter in New York.

Judge Refuses to Seal Names of ‘Kraken’ Witnesses Who Have Asked to Remain Anonymous, Readies for Sanctions Hearing Against Lin Wood and Sidney Powell

Days before a hearing to decide whether “Kraken” lawyers Sidney Powell, Lin Wood, and their co-counsel should face heavy sanctions, a federal judge denied an old motion to keep three of the supposed witnesses’ identities under seal. Two of the once-secret witnesses in that litigation have been revealed via public reporting late last year.

The “Kraken” is the name Powell gave to her legal team’s multi-armed effort to overturn President Joe Biden’s victories in Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Georgia following the 2020 election. After all four efforts failed, the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit gunned for punishment against the team of lawyers which filed the case in the Wolverine State. The state filed complaints directly with the bar, and Detroit asked a federal judge to refer every “Kraken” lawyer who appeared in the Michigan prong of the legal offensive for disbarment proceedings.

That sanctions hearing is currently scheduled for Monday morning, but U.S. District Judge Linda Parker, who will determine the lawyers’ fate, resolved some unfinished business first on Friday.

Among other points of a four-page ruling, Judge Parker rejected Powell’s request to seal the names of three supposed “witnesses” she claimed would suffer “grave risk of harm” should their identities be disclosed.

Lin Wood may face punishment after sharing clip of Michigan election sanctions hearing

A prominent purveyor of election conspiracy theories may face additional punishment from a federal judge in Michigan after he shared a video recording of a portion of a court hearing on sanctions related to a debunked election fraud lawsuit.

Lin Wood, an attorney who has vehemently argued fraud cost former President Donald Trump the 2020 election, was one of several attorneys summoned to a hearing Monday by U.S. District Judge Linda Parker. Sidney Powell and other Trump-supporting attorneys filed lawsuits in Michigan and elsewhere that relied on conspiracies and lies to allege election misconduct.

In accordance with local court rules, all participants and viewers of the virtual proceeding were not allowed to digitally record any of the six-hour hearing. However, Wood appeared to post a recording of Powell speaking during the hearing to Telegram, a social media platform where Wood has more than 840,000 subscribers.

Robert Davis, a Detroit activist involved in the underlying Powell lawsuit, filed a request Tuesday for Parker to hold Wood in criminal contempt.

Feds Demand Detention For Barrack, Label Him A ‘Serious Flight Risk’

Describing Trump confidant Thomas Barrack as a “serious flight risk” who may receive the support of foreign leaders in fleeing the Justice Department, federal prosecutors asked a judge in a Tuesday memo to detain the 2017 Trump inaugural committee chair.

“The defendant is charged with extremely serious offenses based on conduct that strikes at the very heart of our democracy,” prosecutors wrote in the detention filing, which asks a Los Angeles federal magistrate to detain Barrack until a potential bail deal can be worked out.

Prosecutors want Barrack to be moved to Brooklyn federal court while in federal custody.

Trump’s Adult Children Will No Longer Receive Secret Service Protection

Protecting ex-President Donald Trump’s children is no longer a tax-payer problem.

Wednesday marks six months since Trump’s reluctant departure from The Oval Office. The milestone wipes away certain post-presidency perks, including funding for staff. Gone, too, is Secret Service protection for Trump’s adult children. Trump and his wife Melania are entitled to it for life; Barron, the couple’s 15-year-old son, will be protected by the Secret Service until he’s 16.

Secret Service protection for a president’s adult children generally expire the day a successor takes residence in The White House. But in the waning days of his administration, Trump issued a directive extending the Secret Service protection given to his four adult children and their spouses for half a year. The watchdog group Citizens for Ethics (CREW) obtained records indicating that taxpayers were forced to pay $140,000 in just the first month of the arrangement.
