Woman indicted for selling this man human body parts she stole from mortuary: Authorities

An Arkansas woman finally faces charges months after authorities arrested her co-defendant for allegedly buying stolen body parts from her. The district attorney’s office in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, named Candace Chapman Scott, 39, last year when announcing their case against Jeremy Pauley, 40.

A federal grand jury indicted her on April 5, and the case was unsealed Friday, according to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Scott and Pauley allegedly belonged to the same Facebook group regarding “oddities.”

“This is one of the most bizarre investigations I have encountered in my thirty-three years as a prosecutor,” Cumberland County District Attorney Seán M. McCormack said last year. “Just when I think I have seen it all, a case like this comes around.”

Cops in East Pennsboro, Pennsylvania, arrested Pauley on Aug.  18, 2022. Prosecutors said officers got a complaint on June 14, 2022, of possible human body parts sold on Facebook. Then, on July 8, a person called cops out to a home on N. Enola Drive regarding possible human remains.

“The caller reported finding possible human remains in the basement of the residence contained inside of several 5-gallon buckets,” authorities wrote.

Human remains found inside 2 crocodiles believed to belong to missing fisherman

Human remains found inside two crocodiles are believed to be those of a missing fisherman, police in Australia said Wednesday.

Officers believe the two crocodiles, around 13-feet-5 inches and 9 feet long, “were involved in an incident with the 65-year-old and were located upstream from where he was last seen,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The creatures were euthanized by Department of Environment and Science (DES) wildlife officers, the statement said, adding that a search for the man, named by Australian media as Kevin Darmody, had been called off.

“Police will now prepare a report for the coroner,” the statement said.

‘Freaky-looking’ fanged fishes found on Oregon beaches

Several scaleless fish with fanged jaws and huge eyes that can be found more than a mile deep in the ocean have washed up along a roughly 200-mile (322-kilometer) stretch of Oregon coastline, and it’s unclear why, scientists and experts said.

Within the last few weeks, several lancetfish have appeared on beaches from Nehalem, in northern Oregon, to Bandon, which is about 100 miles (161 kilometers) from the California border, Oregon State Parks said on Facebook. The agency asked beachgoers who see the fish to take photos and post them online, tagging the agency and the NOAA Fisheries West Coast region.

Lancetfish live mainly in tropical and subtropical waters but travel as far north as areas like Alaska’s Bering Sea to feed. Their slinky bodies include a “sail-like” fin, and their flesh is gelatinous — not generally something humans wish to eat, according to NOAA Fisheries.

Unclear why?  Obviously it's an indication of seismic activity and a big earthquake is coming or a volcano is getting ready to blow.

Nevermind that the appearance of deep sea fish have not been shown to correlate with earthquakes.

I'm sticking with my theory.

Tennessee hotel guest wakes up to night manager sucking on his toes: police

Toe-tally gross.

An evening manager of a Tennessee hotel was arrested after he snuck into a man’s room and sucked on his toes, according to police.

David Neal, a 52-year-old manager at the 4th Avenue South Hilton Hotel in Nashville, allegedly crept into a male guest’s room while he was sleeping on March 30 and got intimate with his feet.

According to Nashville Metropolitan Police, Neal made a key card to get into the room and entered around 5 a.m., WKRN reported.

The guest told police he woke up to Neal’s mouth around his toes and immediately confronted him.

He recognized Neal as one of the hotel employees who came into his room the day before to fix his TV, according to police.

Neal admitted to police that he had entered the room, but claimed he did so because he smelled smoke and wanted to make sure the guest was OK.

Police said Neal never reported smelling smoke to security and there were no other reports of guests or staff smelling smoke at the hotel.

Autopsies on corpses linked to Kenya starvation cult reveal missing organs; 133 confirmed dead

Autopsies on corpses found in mass graves linked to a Kenyan cult have revealed missing organs and raised suspicions of forced harvesting, investigators said Tuesday as another 21 bodies were found. A total of 133 people have so far been confirmed dead in the so-called "Shakahola forest massacre" since the discovery of mass graves last month shocked the deeply religious Christian-majority country.

Police believe most of the bodies found near Malindi on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast were followers of self-styled pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, who is accused of ordering them to starve to death "to meet Jesus."

While starvation appears to be the main cause of death, some of the victims -- including children -- were strangled, beaten, or suffocated, according to chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

Investigators said Tuesday they believed more bodies would be found in coming days.

"We have 21 bodies exhumed today from nine graves, and this exercise will continue tomorrow," said regional commissioner Rhoda Onyancha. The latest exhumations took the overall toll to 133, she added.

Mexico raises alert level as volcano ejects smoke, ash, lava

Mexican authorities on Sunday raised the warning level for the Popocatepetl volcano to one step below red alert, as smoke, ash and molten rock spewed into the sky posing risks to aviation and far-flung communities below.

The volcano, located in central Mexico, is considered one of the most dangerous in the world because some 25 million people live within a 100-kilometer (60-mile) radius.

Sunday's increased alert level -- to "yellow phase three" -- comes a day after two Mexico City airports temporarily halted operations due to falling ash.

Popocatepetl is located on the borders of the central states of Morelos, Mexico, and Puebla, the capital of which an AFP reporter said Sunday had woken up to a blanketing of gray ash.

The yellow warning means "remain alert and prepare for a possible evacuation," according to the warning system developed by Mexico's National Disaster Prevention Center.

The yellow phase three activated Sunday means "intermediate to high activity" and is triggered when the volcano shows "explosions of increasing intensity, expelling incandescent fragments."

Man hears ‘snap’ during sex, winds up in hospital with ‘triple penis fracture’

A man in Tanzania was sent to the hospital after hearing a “snap” during sex with his female partner.

The loud snap occurred “when the penis slipped out, lost the way” and struck the woman “as he was trying to reinsert it,” doctors reported in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

By the time the unlucky man arrived at the hospital, his penis — no longer erect — was swollen, painful and bloody.

Though the penis contains no bones, it’s referred to as “fractured” when its fibrous connective tissue, called the tunica albuginea, is injured or ruptured.

An MRI revealed that the man had injured his penis in three places along the tunica albuginea: in the pair of erectile tissue bodies known as the corpora cavernosa and in another area called the corpus spongiosum.

Additionally, he had sustained a partial tear through the urethra, the tube that carries semen and urine out of the penis.

Massive seaweed belt still on track to hit US: When will it arrive?

A giant seaweed belt twice the width of the United States has its sights set on Florida, where it could wreak havoc as it washes ashore.

The 5,000-mile-wide bloom is a belt of sargassum, a floating brown algae that usually floats in the Atlantic. The problems start when it comes on land and starts to rot. As it decays, sargassum lets off hydrogen sulfide and smells like rotten eggs, explains the Florida Department of Health. It can irritate people’s eyes, nose and throat, and trigger breathing issues for people with asthma.

Some sargassum has already started washing up in Florida, the health department said Friday, but the worst is unfortunately still to come. Scientists are closely monitoring satellite imagery to identify areas where beaching may occur.

Brian Lapointe, a researcher at Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, told CNN he believes the activity will peak in July.

New horror revealed in sargassum blob

Scientists have discovered that a flesh-eating bacteria is interacting with sargassum and decaying plastic in the ocean, creating the perfect “pathogen” storm that has implications for both marine life and public health. Researchers at Florida Atlantic University have found that the bacteria might be adapting to plastic and living in sargassum, washing up on beaches in a new environmental horror.

The seaweed has already been washing up on local shores over the last few weeks. Given the current size of the Atlantic sargassum belt, dubbed the “great blob”, as it has grown to reach some 5,500 miles across and is currently moving through our region, we can expect to see much more in the coming months.

It is already a major problem for the tourism sector, as visitors complain about the smell and efforts to get rid of it cause beach erosion. The mass of seaweed doubled every month between November and January, according to the University of South Florida’s Optical Oceanography Lab, which tracks the mass, and a new record for sargassum was set in the Caribbean Sea in April.

The Vibrio bacteria, which is now colonising the blob, is found in the ocean the world over and already poses a significant threat, but little is known about the ecological relationship of vibrios with the seaweed and the degrading plastic.

“Plastic is a new element that’s been introduced into marine environments and has only been around for about 50 years,” said Tracy Mincer, PhD, corresponding lead author and an assistant professor of biology at FAU. “Our lab work showed that these Vibrio are extremely aggressive and can seek out and stick to plastic within minutes. We also found that there are attachment factors that microbes use to stick to plastics, and it is the same kind of mechanism that pathogens use.”

The study, published in the journal Water Research, illustrates that open ocean vibrios represent an up-to-now undescribed group of microbes, some representing potential new species, possessing a blend of pathogenic and low nutrient acquisition genes, reflecting their pelagic habitat and the substrates and hosts they colonise.

The study highlighted vertebrate pathogen genes closely related to cholera and non-cholera bacterial strains. Researchers also discovered toxin or “zot” genes, which increase intestinal permeability as the vibrios appear to be getting in through the gut, getting stuck in the intestines and infecting that way.

Update:

India’s Worst Rail Disaster in Decades Convulses Country Dependent on Trains

As giant excavators tried to untangle crushed trains on Saturday at the scene of India’s worst rail disaster in decades, a solemn scene was playing out at a small school a few hundred yards away.

In humid air filled with the odor of human flesh, relatives went through the harrowing exercise of identifying their loved ones from about 120 dead bodies lined up on the ground after the crash on Friday night.

Among those searching was Miyah Jan Mullah, who had come from neighboring West Bengal to look for his son, Musavir, who had been on his way to his tailoring job in Chennai. When Mr. Mullah finally found Musavir’s body, most of it was burned, but his face was largely intact.

“When I saw my son’s face, I thought he had just gone to sleep,” Mr. Mullah said. “But when I looked at his body, I raised my hands toward God and asked him what have I done that my flower turned into a charcoal?”

At least 288 people were killed and more than 700 others injured in what officials in a preliminary government report described as a “three-way accident” involving two passenger trains and an idled freight train in the eastern state of Odisha. Officials said they were investigating signal failure as a possible cause of the crash.

Chilling mystery as nearly 30 kids go missing from city in two weeks and cops say they’ve never seen anything like it

As many as 27 children have been reported missing in the greater Cleveland area, according to Newburgh Heights police chief John Majoy.

Majoy also serves as the board president of Cleveland Missing, an Ohio nonprofit that offers direct support for friends and families that are searching for a missing loved one.

He called the number of missing children, whose ages range from 12 to 17, unprecedented when speaking to reporters.

Cleveland police recorded that the kids were reported missing between May 2 and May 16.

More than 15,000 children were reported missing in Ohio last year, and four of them were found dead.

In more than 8,500 of the cases, abduction played a role, with 34 cases being the result of abductions by a noncustodial parent.

According to a report by Ohio Attorney General, Dave Yost, only five of the cases stemmed from children being kidnapped by a stranger.

Police were able to find 36 percent of the children but 615 were still missing when 2023 began.

Health firm wrongly told hundreds of people they might have cancer

A biotechnology company selling a $949 blood test that it bills as a "first of its kind" to detect cancer said it incorrectly informed about 400 customers that they might have the disease.

The Menlo Park, California, company, called Grail, said it sent a form letter to some customers who had bought its Galleri test, which detects a marker for more than 50 types of cancer, "stating incorrectly that a cancer signal was detected," a company spokeswoman told CBS MoneyWatch in a statement.

The company blamed a vendor, PWN Health, for the error, citing a "software configuration issue."

In a statement, PWN Health said it said the problem was due to "a misconfiguration of our patient engagement platform used to send templated communications to individuals." It added that it has added processes to make sure such a mistake doesn't occur again, and started contacting the people who received the erroneous letters within 36 hours.

The error comes amid an increased demand for health care screening tests, especially for chronic diseases such as cancer. Grail is billing its service as a complement to routine single-cancer tests for diseases such as colon or breast cancer, and said that the blood test can detect forms of the disease that aren't routinely screened for, such as in the gallbladder and pancreas.

Grail said it hasn't received reports of patient harm or "adverse events" due to the erroneous letters.

CDC warns of deadly bacteria with 50% fatality rate that has been declared endemic to the US Gulf Coast

A deadly bacteria with a roughly 50 percent fatality rate worldwide has made its way to the US Gulf Coast, where it has been declared endemic by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC has confirmed three cases of infection from the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei, which can cause potentially lethal melioidosis if not treated.

“It is an environmental organism that lives naturally in the soil, and typically freshwater in certain areas around the world. Mostly in subtropical and tropical climates,” Julia Petras, an epidemic intelligence service officer with CDC’s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, told HealthDay News.

The most recent case was reported in Mississippi in January.

Two others were confirmed in the same Mississippi county in July 2020 and May 2020.

However,  most of those people infected with the bacteria don’t show symptoms and develop antibodies against it, meaning many more people are likely infected, Petras said.

In all three Mississippi cases, the patient recovered.

“This is one of those diseases that is also called the great mimicker because it can look like a lot of different things,” Petras told the outlet. “It’s greatly under-reported and under-diagnosed and under-recognized — we often like to say that it’s been the neglected, neglected tropical disease.”

“Excessive alcohol use is also a known risk factor, and binge drinking has actually been associated with cases as well from endemic areas,” Petras said.

Man's penis left 'looking like Frankenstein' after thinking he got STI from toilet seat

A dad joked his penis looked like "Frankenstein's face" after what he thought was an STI turned out to be more deadly.

James Garfield, from Somerset, was left mortified when he noticed a small red pimple on the shaft of his manhood.

Soon after it pimple developed into a 1p-sized patch of itchy, oozing skin.

He feared he might have picked up an STI from a toilet seat, so visited a sexual health clinic for some answers.

But a doctor then revealed he was "90% sure" it could be cancer.

James, who previously suffered with a tight foreskin condition called phimosis, underwent circumcision in March 2020.

A growth was removed, then a biopsy had been taken, before he received chemo cream to apply on the area.

He began suffering from a pain in his groin then noticed discolouration on his penis so went back to his GP.

A second biopsy last January revealed James had penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN), a rare, pre-cancerous disease on the outer skin layer.

In April, James had a glansectomy, a procedure that removes tissue containing cancerous cells, and had a skin graft from his thigh attached to the area.

But the dad joked when he first saw his penis it looked like "Frankenstein's face".

So are biblical end times upon us?  We're now having plagues of locusts:

Mormon crickets invade Nevada, will Utah be next?

Utah is no stranger to Mormon crickets swarming communities in biblical proportions. Just 20 years ago, nearly two-and-a-half million acres were infested. Tooele County was one of the worst-hit areas. Elko, Nevada is currently under siege. As Elko residents wait for some relief, experts say Utah might steer clear of a similar situation.

The pavement seems to ripple in Elko. What is the cause? The movement of thousands, if not millions, of Mormon crickets.

“Three minutes later my husband called out and they were completely all over our property,” Elko resident Julie Holling told ABC4. “We have two-and-a-half acres, and they were marching in the front and in the back, through my garden and everywhere.” Holling said this all started while she and her husband were gardening on Memorial Day.

The problem hasn’t let up much since that day. Holling added: “When you bate them on your property they keep coming and they keep eating the ones that were there before them that have passed, and they smell horrible and they’re slimy.” She said in the morning, before the sun heats up the pavement, the crickets seem to be the most tranquil. Due to that, the family walks their dog earlier in the morning to avoid the worst of the crickets.
