The Apology Thread

Recommended Posts

Back in October, I offered a bet to the board. The bet was whether or not the Redskins would make the playoffs and thereby prove, or disprove, that Steve Spurrier was a good NFL coach.

http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38919&highlight=Anybody+want+to+bet

Well it’s payoff time.

There were ten people who joined in the bet. Five were with me. Five were against me.

The wager, from the original thread, was this.

THE WAGER: Those who were wrong will be obligated to write a completely self-degrading 100-word apology to all the winners, (one letter from each loser addressed to the winning group posted in the appropriate thread) for being so stupid to have taken the position they did. How wrong they were. This apology may contain NO EXCUSES! NO REASONING! And NO SARCASM! Complete groveling is in order. Humility at it's finest.

The following members, Symbol, IAMBG, big z, Lowghost, Doug Williams, and myself each owe an apology to the winning group of,

AREDSKIN, inmate running the asylum, Tom[Giants fan], Frunobulax, and NoDak Cowboy.

As an extra bonus, I would like one of the moderators, or as many as would like, to choose the best apology, mine excluded, using the criteria given in the wager. For this I will make a Silver Donation (1 hat & 1 shirt) to be awarded to the writer of the winning apology.

Thanks to all who participated.

PS - To the losing group, we don’t have to really believe what we write, but we do have to write it. A bet is a bet.

I'll go first.

I would at this time like to offer my apology to the following gods of football knowledge.

aREDSKIN, inmate running the asylum, Tom[Giants fan], Frunobulax, and NoDak Cowboy.

You might call them, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”. The football knowledge possessed by this group is awe-inspiring. Whatever made me think that I, an uninformed football geek, could compete against such a group? I realize now what a fool I was to think so. I obviously know nothing about football, or the men who do.

I hope that in the future I might learn from these men, simply by having the honor of reading their informative and insightful posts. I would also hope that they would allow me to occasionally ask them questions about the game of football, as I am in dire need of their wisdom and intuition.

Humbly yours,

Ax

To aREDSKIN, Inmate Running the Asylum, Tom[Giants fan], Frunobulax, and NoDak Cowboy. You were each correct that Steve Spurrier couldn't lead our beloved (well not for Tom or NoDak) Redskins to the playoffs. I admit that I was grasping at straws hoping that Spurrier could lead the Redskins to the playoffs.

Now Spurrier is gone and the team went 5-11 and only have another free agency and April draft to look forward too. The Redskins couldn't beat the Eagles or the Cowboys and only beat the Giants because Jim Fassel was a lame duck head coach. Spurrier never could learn the system that would lead the Redskins to a playoff or even a winning season.

So please accept this apology as a sincere and heartfelt apology. Know that I will never go against reason and believe that this will happen again.

Bet? What bet? PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS???????

Ok ok. A bet its a bet.

To aREDSKIN, Inmate Running the Asylum, Tom[Giants fan], Frunobulax, and NoDak Cowboy. I apologize for the vast conspiricy by the Redskins front office that prevented Steve Spurrier from winning. Had they provided OBC with the right players, ie: a fast proven WR, two proven guards on the offensive line, a kicker to win those close games and a specialist to return kicks and punts, we would have one the NFC east. But no. Snyder and Cerrato payed SOS millions just so they could appease Florida State fans and prove that SOS is a duck and can't do it in the pros.........

All kidding aside. I was wrong. I was wrong to think that we had a chance this year. I was wrong to think that with all the building blocks in place to make a run at the playoffs that SOS wouldn't battle his ego and inner demons all year and instead battle our opponents gameplans.

I was wrong to think for all the great coaches this organization has seen, that SOS caould come close to being the next great one.

I was wrong to think that SOS's laid back players-coach style would create a bond between hinm and the other 70 players whose names he didn't know and couldn't pronounce.

I was wrong to think that I would never stoop so low as to want to wear a bag over my head when talking 'Skins stuff. Becasue of all the turmoil with SOS this season and still beliving up until Teusday morning that next year would be better and experiencing the events unfold as they did, I am embarassed for those I am apologizing to that the Coach I have defended all year would gutlessly quit via cell-phone from the 18th on some posh golf course in Florida.

I apologize for being a hypocrite. As one who hated the OBC for all his whining and complaining years in Fla with countless players that were accused of dirty play that I would only turn around and ride his coattails when he became the next coach for our beloved Skins, I am sorry.

I have taken steps, along with this formal apology, to rectify my blunder of belief through my endorsement of the Redskins new head coaching candidate. For Tom, I will not endorse Fassell as our new head coach. I have now seen the light and with the encouragement and insite from Inmate, I now endorse Dennis Green as the Redskins new head coach.

Most of all I apologize for having to apologize to a f*cking Cowpoke fan. (no offense)

One more thing I should have expressed instead of rallying for Spurrier earlier this year. In the words of the once not-so-great Jim Mora:“Playoffs! Playoffs! Are you kidding me? Playoffs! We’ll be lucky to win another game.”

And last but not least: Hail to the Redskins and Extremeskins.com

Your apologies -- Ax, Symbol, IAMBG, big z, Lowghost, and Doug Williams -- are humbly and graciously :nana: :nana::nana: accepted on behalf of Inmate Running the Asylum. 04.gif

How in the world did you ever expect to win, with me providing Inmate with his intuition and infallible clairvoyance to read the future? 13.gif

Die Hard learned the folly of betting against Inmate last year, their bet forever being ingrained in the minds of those who follow Extremeskin lore.

After all, Inmate cannot lose being that he is the true Chosen One, who also bears the sign of the Exalted One, which is the gap between his two upper bicuspids. Those who think the gap is a result of dental caries, are just ignorant of voodoo lore and are being misguided by the media. 04.gif

Keep in mind that if you ever challenge or question the football wisdom of Inmate again, may Allah pluck out all your pubic hairs one-by-one, with a pair of cheap tweezers bought from K-Mart.

Miss Cleo has spoken.

Ax, Symbol, IAMBG as one of the first members of this board, demonstrated by my double digit member number ;), you've learned a valuable albeit painful lesson here. You cannot ever in the future question my wealth of football knowledge and to do so would subject youself to the total embarassment others have endure by even remotely questioning my foresight and predictive abilities. Yes this is yet but one example of the Herculean depth & breath of football moxie that I possess. I graciously accept you humble apologies in front of the extremeskins community.

It all started when I was a young lad in the bowels of Northern VA watching for the first time this red headed fellow who wore the #9 on his jersey. Throwing the ball like the wind...............opps sorry off topic a bit.

You see my data base goes way back I have seen a lot and that experience & wisdom allowed me to accept this bet knowing that SOS was a bust after the first year and thereby not making the playoffs. But alas my Skins brethern all is not lost if you should ever need advise or assistance in the future on football related matters look no further than the all mighty grand pooh pa himself

Of course I could be wrong. ;)

Ahhh...the bet.

Well, this was a thread started during our bye week....right before the Dallas debacle.....

I wrote the following:

Spurrier hasn't given us one reason to think he has the answers, or that he is slowly but surely learning how to win in the NFL.

I'm torn.

It's so easy to bet against Spurrier at this point.

Can the team pull it together and go 7-2 to finish the season IN SPITE of the bad coaching?

eh...why not.........Go Skins! Onward to the PLAYOFFS!!!!

of course, if we lose the Dallas game, we might as well just right our essays on monday.

BUT....a bet is a bet........

So I humbly aplogize to the following:

AREDSKIN, Inmate, Tom, Frunobulax, and NoDak Cowboy.

YOU WERE RIGHT! Tell you sister....You were right.....(darth vader ref)

You KNEW how bad our coach was. There was no doubt in your minds. I was foolish....and quite frankly an idiot :dunce: to think that even with all our talent, we could overcome such incompetency and lack of leadership at the top.

What was so blatantly obvious to you guys only became blatantly obvious to me 1 week later. For the love of God....i'm sorry.....i'm sorry.....please.....i can't take it anymore.....I am at your mercy :respect: ......but why....why must you all laugh at me...34853_laughface.GIF ...and point...34853_lolpoint.GIF ...do I not bleed when injured? am I not human as well.....have pity....for the love of God, I am a broken man.. ...was it not enough to have yet another dagger thrust into my heart that dreaded sunday in dallas.....Owwww......who kicked me??? you heartless ****s... :cuss: ....I DEFY YOU!!!

You have my apology, but you will NEVER take my Redskin Soul!

I apologize.....But I am NOT Sorry!!! :nana:

ok.....that's enough....good call gentleman.

Here's to the 5th pick!!!!

First off I apologize for being late for my apology:D This is the first time this year I have had time to come here.

I am sorry that I did not heed to the wisdom of the esteemed members who knew better than I about the ability of this x- coaching staff of getting our beloved team into the postseason:(

I am unfortunately a bleeding homer that can not see through these colored glasses. In the future I will learn to listen to these gentlemen whose knowledge of football far exceeds mine own. Obviously reading every thread on the board has taught me nothing, that is due to my own stupidity and not because of all the intelligent post here. After 35 yrs of watching football you would think that I might have learned a thing or two. That, to my regret, has been not been the case, so I humbly beg your forgiveness for being a naive fool who did not understand the depts that the Redskins had sunk.

Sincerely

Very LoWGHoST:)

I'm just ready for the bets that the Redskins are making it to the playoffs next year. I'll be on the playoff bandwagon again, as I am every year. Heck, I already believe we stand a great chance, thanks to Santa Clause giving me the greatest gift of Spurrier resigning.

well there were lots of intangibles that were hard to judge 100%..

For one Spurrier was known as a perfectionist and getting on his players asses..so what the hell happened when he got his NFL chance???

Spurrier also had 2 1000 yard rushers in the USFL. He also had numerous solid running games in college..

He was known for good playcalling but the pressure of the NFL just killed him If you ask me.

So I personally don't think I got the Spurrier I thought I was getting..(not that I bet anyone or anything)
