Capt. Kaos
One more time I'm leaning on the collective knowledge of ES. We are taking the little one to see Wicked at The Kennedy Center on Saturday afternoon. What I'm looking for is a good, moderately priced place near the Foggy Bottom stop to grab lunch bfore the show. We are open to just about any type of food, due to meeting up with grandparents we are restricted to location though. As always, any help is appreciated. Kosher Ham
With a kid, I would just go to Bertucci's. It is at 2000 Penn on the bottom floor. Reasonable Italian food, and good.
Predicto
zoony suggests the Olive Garden.
Kosher Ham
zoony suggests the Olive Garden. He would if there was one even in the city. I guess he could go to the one at PG plaza, it is right off the train after all.
Hubbs
First of all, good choice with Wicked, it's very entertaining. Second of all, use Yelp. They have a Google Maps feature that will allow you to zoom in to, say, a three-block radius around the Kennedy Center, then search for restaurants on the map according to type of food and overall rating. Great site.
Kosher Ham
If he is leaving the train at the foggy bottom stop, Kennedy center really doesn't have good restaurants around except at Watergate which won't be really kid friendly.
Capt. Kaos
zoony suggests the Olive Garden. I knew this was coming... just knew it First of all, good choice with Wicked, it's very entertaining.Second of all, use Yelp. They have a Google Maps feature that will allow you to zoom in to, say, a three-block radius around the Kennedy Center, then search for restaurants on the map according to type of food and overall rating. Great site. First off, yes it is, this will be the second time for my wife and I. Secondly, thanks, I'll be sure to use yelp. If he is leaving the train at the foggy bottom stop, Kennedy center really doesn't have good restaurants around except at Watergate which won't be really kid friendly. Just talked to the grandparents and the options have opened up a bit, How about suggestions between Rosslyn and Metro Center?!?
Barney B
I'm a big fan of Lindy's Red Lion @ 21st and Penn. Unpretentious, you might call it. Basically, diner fare - good burgers, cheap eats, small, cramped quarters, but fun. One caveat - if it takes too long to get seated, they're understaffed that day. It happens. Better to move on than to wait 40 minutes for a cold burger. I love 'em anyway.
frostyj
Ollies Trollies at 12th and E. A block from Metro center.
Elessar78
Foggy bottom-ish: El Chalan is nice and moderately priced Peruvian food. Recommend the lomo saltado. Thai Kingdom on 21st and K is great too. Metro Center: Zaytinya. Jaleo. Gordon Biersch. Cap city Brewery. RFD.
LadySkinsFan
I used to work right across the street from Thai Kingdom and it's great! Basil chicken is to die for. Zaytinya is all hard surfaces and you can't hear yourself in that place. I was on a date there once and could not have a conversation. I haven't had a child in the city for a long time so can't really suggest anyplace.
Capt. Kaos
Thanks for the suggestions, I might add that my "little one" is 14. I'm going to go yelp the area and see what I can find, I'll probably be back with some names for feedback.
ixcuincle
Zaytinya...isn't that the Jose Andres one If so would highly recommend because Andres is the man
Elessar78
I know Jaleo is Jose Andres. Not sure of Z's provenance, but Zaytinya is REALLY good, couple that with the prices being reasonable (read: a little more than Applebees, but def. less than a trip Ruth's Chris). Capt. Kaos
Just got a call from the grandparents, a place that was recommended to them was Potbelly Sandwich Shop It appears to be a couple blocks south of the Foggy Bottom stop. Anyone ever been?
Elessar78
Potbelly is good. Sandwich place obv. I recommend getting the "A Wreck" Sandwich with a chocolate milkshake. Can't go wrong with their meatball either.
Skins24
I recommend getting the "A Wreck" Sandwich with a chocolate milkshake. I get that about 90% of the time I go to Potbelly.
PokerPacker
if you're open to salad, there's a place called Chop'd. choose your lettuce, choose the extras, the cheese, the dressing... and then choose to get a giant bowl or a wrap.

Coeface
I work right on Pennsylvania Ave near Foggy Bottom metro. I suggest "Froggy Bottom Pub." Small place, you can sit outside, but the food is delicious.

JeffSchmeff
Zaytinya is all the way over in Chinatown. Foggy Bottom is near Georgetown so you could always walk over and hit Pizzeria Paradiso.
Elessar78
he augmented his locations to include Metro Center and Rosslyn.
