State bureaucrats have identified a potentially deadly hazard facing our children this summer - freeze tag.

That's right, officials have decided the age-old street game - along with Wiffle Ball, kickball and dodgeball - poses a "significant risk of injury."

And classics like Capture the Flag, Steal the Bacon and Red Rover are also deemed dangerous in new state regulations for day camps.

Surprised they didn't outlaw jump rope. Can't have these kids doing anything physical at summer camp now, can we?

Idiots. The author of this bill probably got picked last for all of those teams in school..........

According to this - the state backed off.

Now it seems the state has listened to those speaking out against the new guidelines. Just hours after the news coverage of the controversial "risky list" began, it's backing off...thus easing the minds of all those counting down the days until school is out. and summer camp is in.

And of course we blame the state.

These games don't pose a significant risk of injury,, but in case there is one, they pose a significant risk of lawsuit.

Anyone ever stop to think to blame the parents who sue over every nick and scrape Johnny and Susie get?

How about the lawyers who search high and low for playground accidents or other bits of civil "negligence" with which to bleed the taxpayers?

is it just easier to shake your fist and yell at the evil gov'ment?

Blame the insurance rates being ridiculous to cover such possibilities that it's best to just not have the opportunity exist.

Insurance companies view all of us as over the barrel, required to have their services in case they get shaken down. It's like a protection racket.

Then look at the budget woes that need to find cuts to pay for things, (and conversely listen to the folks who scream for cuts cry about this.

This is like the whole spending cuts argument in microcosm. It's not the politicians spending the money,,, it's those who are accepting it causing the expenditure. We need / want some things. We must decide which things those are to be. Apparently this state has decided against hefty personal liabliy insurance.

See how it works?)

Always the state being blamed.. but it's just reacting.

Our society views everything as a chance to cash in, including a kickball that hits Billy in the back and knocks the wind out of him.

ONE parent sues a county or achool system over a broken leg, and it can suck up a lot of money.

It sucks, but it's true. I guarantee you that 99% of those who might vote for this measure dont actually believe that kickball is "dangerous".

BIGMIKERAGE.

ROWR.

Oh wait, you mean there aren't doing what the title of the thread says????

Nevermind.

Really? That's your attitude?

A bunch of head-up-their-own-ass do-gooders try and pull some bull**** like this, get called out for it, and you're actually saying "nothing to see here"????

Good googly moogly man.

zoony,

Bang has already explained it. What else is there to add?

To me - this is much ado about nothing. Government officials doing what they have to do - otherwise the government is at financial risk.

If you want to get your rage on - blame the broken law system in which little joe breaking his nose in kickball at a city regulated camp results in the city being financially at risk due to a lawsuit from little joe's ambulance chasing lawyer dad.

And...in the end, the government(s) backed off of it because public outrage made them realize that they overstepped. That's how the system should work, right?

I think you've just offended half the resident liberals in the tailgate.

Most cities have immunity so The Evil Genius is talking out his butt.

If Little Johnny breaks his nose playing kickball, the camp's liability insurance policy would cover it. The issue is paying the premiums for the liability policy.

Not really. I doubt neither side is for frivelous lawsuits..it usually the definition of what is frivelous that we get hung on.

And the spelling.....

Why, because of a little sign they put up? If you can show the city is at fault because of ill maintenance (rocks on the kickball diamond) or design problems, the immunity doesn't stick, right?

Frivolous. My bad.

Anyway...back on subject...the larger issue, I think, is that everything for children must be "organized" now. You can apparently only play sports if it is done in a league. You can apparently only ride a skateboard at a city approved skate park. You create these leagues and organizations, you create beauracracy. You create beauracracy, you create rules and regulations.

You know what? I'm wrong.

States have immunity; cities do not. That was dumb.

But it's not so easy to sue a city for some kind of faulure to regulate.
