The atmosphere surrounding the Washington Redskins has changed dramatically since last year's 4-12 stinker of a season. They start the season against self/media appointed Super Bowl contenders the Dallas Cowboys. For the Skins this match-up couldn't come at a better time. The Cowboys will probably be missing two starters on their offensive line and their offense has been anemic throughout the preseason.

I had no idea Yahoo had nearly cornered the market on intelligent reporters.

I think it's funny that Schefter is the ONLY person at ESPN picking the Skins. I'm not sure if that's because he believes it or he's being loyal to Shanahan and doesn't want to lose his inside info.

Or maybe he's just more informed than the other guys because of his inside info?

kinda surprised by the love we're getting

A lot of that is the Cowboys o-line. Two starters may not play (they wouldn't be 100% if they did), and the ones that will play haven't looked too good.

The Dallas offense can't do much if Romo sits to pee is on his back or running for his life the whole game.

Not to mention the fact that Shanahan, I believe, is 6-3 going against Wade Phillips as either a HC or a DC.

I can't imagine that Shan-Shan cares one way or the other who Shefter picks. ESPN is owned by Dallas. But Shefter generally does his own thing.

Considering the way other teams have been pooping on his rep by feeding him bad info lately I wouldn't be shocked if the latter were true. Then again he also picked Buffalo, Philly and KC so he may just be the idiot everyone thinks he is.

Here's another pick from the NYTimes:

Cowboys at Redskins

Sunday, 8:20 p.m.

Line: Cowboys by 3 1/2

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to work in the Redskins’ front office. The team acquires big-name veterans every off-season, even though their overpriced acquisitions usually arrive with inflated reputations, baggage and “headaches” (quotes provided by Albert Haynesworth). The team spent this week trying to trade the malcontent savant Haynesworth, but he’ll be in uniform on Sunday night, if not in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, the team discovered that new quarterback Donovan McNabb was actually a brittle 34-year old feeling the effects of 357 career sacks. Perhaps they should have read the label. McNabb will play on a sprained ankle this week. His weapons include Clinton Portis, Joey Galloway, Larry Johnson and other players whose extended warranties expired years ago. McNabb is 11-8 against the Cowboys in his career, but the last two losses -– 24-0 in the 2009 in the season finale, 34-14 in the playoffs -– were whoppers.

The Cowboys are coming off a miserable preseason. Their star-studded backfield averaged just 2.7 yards per rush, and their offensive line surrendered 16 sacks and suffered several minor injuries. The Cowboys may be repeat their slow start of last season. If that happens, Wade Philips could jam the office printer with all of his resume paper. Pick: REDSKINS
