WTF was the penalty for?

There's nottin' on anyone? Terrible decision after another brilliant counter for the third. (After a superb save from Mignolet on just about Brighton's only chance.).

Keep working Redmen.

Hail.

Even everyone over here scratched their heads.  The best guess was for Hendo's push... I think it was for Bobby scoring the third after Si's save.

Beats me.

Love that we are doing the middle to lower table sides now.  That's massive.

Chris Hughton going out of his way again to compare our attacking play to City.

We know, when it's on, it's as good as anything in Europe. But it's always nice to hear from an opposition manager.

Hail.

His sides have conceded 5 goals everytime he's played us.  Perfect time for goal differential.

Need to get a non-cup tied defender in January to make this run.

Spurs being Spurs again.

Arsenaling has begun.

But the spine.....

Spurs lucky they didn't lose 3-1.  Two STONEWALL pens not given there.

Did Clattenberg just admit something he should not have?  I'm sure people remember the game but just to refresh: Tottenham went up 2-0 and began fouling and dirty tactics throughout the game.  9 of their players were handed a yellow, with three players deserving a second (or even a straight red).  It was a horribly reffed game and Clats lost control.  He didn't want to be in the headlines for "losing the title for Tottenham" yet ended up in the headlines for one of the worst reffed games of the past decade.

He is essentially admitting that he was not going to send anyone off no matter what the play on the field dictated.  Also that refs in the PL play by different rules and try to extract "theatre" from matches instead of fair decisions.  This is borderline match fixing stuff.

Only Milan could sink to the depths of not only handing a club it's first ever Serie A point in injury time. But allowing that to transpire from a diving header equaliser by the oppositions 'keeper.

The more things change. The more they stay the same.

*Edit* Oh yeah, Benevento had lost 14 straight too in their debut top-flight season going in.

L'pool in a blistering run of form with a big Champions League game tomorrow.

Everton out of the mire with back-to-back wins for the first time all year. With a new manager. (Even if it's an archaic clown nobody wants.).

Everyone on a high. In Derby week.

And now all anyone wants to talk about is the FA Cup Derby draw the start the NY.

No better City when it's bouncing to the football beat.

In an ideal World, it'd be good tonight if:

Group A. Utd beat CSKA. Much rather Basle than the extra hassle and expense of Moscow twice in a season.
Group C. Atlético beat Chelsea and Roma fail to beat Qarabaǧ. Hmmm, Madrid, or Rome when the footies on. Let me think .....
Group D. Sporting beat Barcelona and Juve fail to win in Athens. Boss, cheap as chips City in Lisbon or constantly watching yer back Turin .....

Hail.

Tonight couldn't be much simpler then.

Win- Win the group.
Draw- Win the group if Sevilla
fail to win. Runner-up if they do.
Lose- Runner-up if Sevilla lose. If they draw and it's a three-way tie on 9 points we'd drop into the Europa League on the collective head-to-head. (Not the most disparaging scenario personally with some of the trips still in that tourney but let's not tempt fate on that.).

No need to worry about any goal difference or goals scored. Just results.

Not too much difference in the teas we could pull next Monday from finishing first or second either:

Win the group: Basel, Bayern, Juventus, Porto/ Leipzig, Real Madrid or
Shaktar/ Napoli. (Here's hoping City ease off and Donetsk get something tonight to save the moody ****hole that is Naples. Not least when the footies on.).

Finish second: Barcelona, Besiktas, PSG or Roma.

Only Juve, Roma or Napoli I wouldn't want there from a trip perspective. Although PSG still
have some knobheads and Shaktar playing in Kharkiv with the situation out there is a real pain.

But on the pitch, over two legs, in straight knock-out European football, with the Anfield factor, I'll happily put this club up against anyone. One thing's for sure. They'll all be as worried about facing ourselves as we could be them.

Talking of, enough of the complacently ****e non-atmosphere of Maribor and back to Hoffenheim/ Sevilla form and the arl place rocking again on what should be another great Anfield European night under the lights.

Into these Reds!

So, most likely for Chelsea we will draw Barca, PSG, or Besiktas.  Personally, I'd rather draw Barca or PSG because you have to beat the best teams anyway, why not start with them.  If it's not either of them in the first round, it's Real Madrid in the second, or Bayern...eventually you gotta beat these teams.  Hazard is ready and playing out of his mind in current form.  As he said yesterday post game: It's not a problem who we get, we are Chelsea.
