PCS Posted May 4, 2010 Share Posted May 4, 2010 Yeah, this the 30 year anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. Still the greatest movie of all time. I still remember going to see it in 1980 as if it were yesterday. Same here. We go to Springfield Mall to wait in line just to buy tickets. About 11/2 hours. We took turns standing line. Mom would go shopping and we would go to Time Out. We then wait for an even longer time just to get in to the movie. After all that,lightening strikes in the parking lot and power goes out about the time the Falcon is taking off from the Cloud City near the end. :mad: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

After all that,lightening strikes in the parking lot and power goes out about the time the Falcon is taking off from the Cloud City near the end. :mad: I can relate to waiting in line...I was visiting my Grandmother in a small town in Virginia, and the big news of the day (so big I think it made the front page) was "The Empire Strikes Back" was opening that night. My older brother (R-I-P; he hated "Star Wars" but was going with me because he felt sorry about the way my summer got screwed up...long story another day) my cousin got in line at 4:45 for a movie that started at 7:15 and I was only 3rd in line! Longest line I ever stood in was for "Return of The Jedi" saw it while I was living in Hawaii. George Lucas tried getting the state to fork over more money to get the film there..he said something about cost to ship and staging some real crappy story and that if they didn't he couldn't ensure if the film would get there in time for the summer...the State Government stepped in and said, "Fine pull this junk, but considering that you and Spielberg just applied to film large portions of the next Indiana Jones film here we can't ensure that you'll get the tax-breaks that you are looking for"...and the rest is history. PCS Posted May 4, 2010 Share Posted May 4, 2010 I think the Empire was the longest I stayed in line for one of the movies. Star Wars took awhile to really get going. I was in basic training when Return of the Jedi came out. Went to see it on a week day during Town Pass. No waiting at that one. :whew: Oh. Talk about opening scenes for a movie. It was like late fall or something. At the end it something like "In theaters next Spring." Wasn't until school was out in mid-June,(end of my freshman year),that I went to see it with my brothers and a couple of friends at Fair City Mall. Saw it a total of 5 times before it went out of circulation. My dad saw it 3. Never did that with a movie before or since. Just saying, I love the Fair City Mall theater, if we are talking about the same Fair City (off Pickett and 236). Still there, got a great pizza place (Mama Lucias) last time I was there.
