Am I developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or something...?

Is there a hand doctor in the house?

One afternoon while making dinner for my sons, all of a sudden my pinky and ring finger on my right hand started tingling. Not numb, but rather that "fallen asleep" kind of tingling that your legs get when you spending too long on the crapper. The feeling goes from those two finger tips and extends down right right side of my hand, ending right at the wrist.

Its not painful, just..odd. Again, imagine the feeling like when your legs fall asleep, but concentrated just on a couple fingers on your hand. Its very localized..not the whole hand..just the two right-most fingers and the right side of the hand down to the wrist.

I figured it'd go away on its own in a few hours or a day or so, but it has now been almost a week. I'm concerned that I've either developed CTS or have damaged a nerve or something. I don't know. Any ideas?

100% not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Well that's good to know. That was just one guess since I'd read that early symptoms of CTS could be numbness or tingling in the hand.

So what else could "Mystery Right-Side of Hand Tingling for a Week Syndrome" be?

Suffered the same. For me, I think it was an inflammatory type of thing. Cut out the sugar and try adding some supplements that combat inflammation. Also try sleeping with your arm resting straight on a pillow. I am without the sensation currently and have been for over a year now.

Happens to me from time to time. I have poor circulation. My arms and legs fall asleep a lot if I lay on them too long while sleeping. Diabetes runs in my family and that is one of the symptoms (poor circulation that is) so i keep a close watch on that. The more I monitor my diet, the better things are. It might just be a dietary issue for you in general.

If it was a global problem as you are describing, it would not be in his right hand only.

Seriously, just go to an ortho or a chiropractor to get evaluated...someone that knows what nerve injury looks like. Honestly, what you are describing could be wrist, could be neck, could be shoulder or elbow even. Or any combination of those.

Make an appointment with your primary care physician. If s/he feels it's necessary, they will order a nerve conduction study. Good luck.

FYI: I'm not a doc, but I slept at a Holiday Inn last night and if I had an uneducated guess to give, since this is ES and all, I'm going to go with ulnar nerve entrapment aka cubital tunnel syndrome.

Bottom line: Go see a doc so s/he can run, or can refer you to a specialist who can run a nerve conduction study. You'll likely get a definitive diagnosis from that. :)

I'll definitely do that. Not sure when I'll be able to (busy as crap w/ work right now, can't take the time off), but I will.

I have been having the same problems... but it could be from the babe draft.... not sure

The doc didn't do me a whole lot of good. I've got a similar deal to what you're talking about, except it's on the inside of my index finger and thumb and then down my wrist. At first it was just numbness like you're saying, but it got to the point of pain after about a month.

Originally my aunt, who is a nurse, figured it was carpal tunnel, so she had me wear a wrist brace for awhile. That was only a temp solution obviously, as after 2 or 3 weeks, nothing had changed, so I went to see a specialist. He took x-rays and all that. Confirmed that it wasn't Carpal tunnel, figured it was just from over-use, which was understandable, between bowling, golfing, and having a computer job. So he told me to just try to use it less.

So I started eating, mousing, and doing anything else menial with my left hand. That stopped the pain, at least from occuring so often, but whenever I would use my right hand (ha.ha.) It would start to hurt again. After a month I went back and he said that it was likely nerve damage, and outside of seeing a Nerve specialist, there wasn't anything he could do besides physical therapy, which probably wouldn't help as it's not an issue with the muscle or bone.

I don't know what a nerve specialist would do for me exactly, but it's going on a year in May, so I'll probably look into it. I'm able to manage the pain now, but bowling and golfing aren't as fun when your hand is going numb and gets sore afterwards.
